I Will Be Starting A Degree In Biochemistry Next Year What Can I Do Now To Prepare Myself

Prepping for EXTREMELY BUSY schedule next Fall semester. What can I do to get really good grades?

Although I haven't dealt with the vigor of science classes and elegant mathematics classes as a business major, I know that you can still achieve great grades in these 5 classes. You don't seem to have lab hours this semester, so that's a plus. I also have no idea how good you are at organic chemistry or math, but judging from your major choice and the fact that you have had high grades in the past, I'd say you're pretty good.

Of course your schedule depends on whether or not you have a job, do any volunteer work, extracurriculars, or belong to a club/organization. If you are focused almost entirely on school, it looks like you get out of class pretty early in the day (of course you have everything back to back from 8 am). The best way to ace these classes in my opinion is to practice time management and to study smart.

You'll get a pretty good idea early on which classes are more challenging grade-wise and which ones are easier for you. I am guessing marketing won't be that big of a deal. You are definitely not doomed, but this work load won't be easy either. Make sure that once classes start and you get a good idea of their difficulty level (tests, grading system, homework load, essay load, calculation load...) that you make a goal list and stick to it.

Probably the most important thing is NOT to spend 24 hours a day studying in your room and devoting all energy to your work. You need to know what your professors want. If you do poorly on a test or homework, go consult your professor. Get their advice, get extra practice problems, etc. Work smart so that you know what your professor WANTS (they are giving you the grades) and then give yourself time to rest. Make sure to get plenty of sleep and food so you can be alert and retain the information you're working with. Don't forget to take good notes in class!! You may find yourself zoning out in a back-to-back schedule, but if you write things down, you can reference them later.

I'd say take a break after you get out of class around 1:30. You've been in a ton of difficult classes, so make sure you have some rest before starting on your homework and studies, and give yourself time to socialize. If you treat this like a job, then you can still have a life and succeed academically.

I know this sounds easier said than done, but just keep yourself in check; time management and working intelligently.

Biochemistry major personal statement help?

Just got to write a 500 word personal statement for my application to a biochemistry major.

I dont know how to express my interest in biochemistry without sounding too hammy (id rather avoid the "I've always been interested in proteins and ect.") I'm very much more interested in pharmacology though.

I was wondering if I could tie in my interest in pharmacology into the essay without sounding too distant from biochemistry overall. Honestly, the only reason I'm (hoping) to get into biochemistry is to prepare myself better for pharmacy school. Can I actually mention this?

How to survive BioChemistry?

The only honest answer is that there are no tricks. But there is a tip, and that is to apply yourself and study. There is no shortcut. Sorry.
