If someone says something and you think it would work great in a story, can you use what they said or do you have to change it up?

For more detail, like for instance in a youtube video a yotuuber is talking and says something casually, like just 5 simple words, can you legally use that line in a work of fiction?

What do you say to someone when they are tired?

If someone says to you, "Don't work too hard!", what is the appropriate response? Assuming this person is a complete stranger.

Imagine for a moment that I am aboard a big ship in the middle of the ocean. I fall off this ship into the choppy waters below.I'm a decent swimmer, despite of which I begin to thrash. I thrash because I'm terrified. I fell off a ship, cannot see land, and don't know what else is in the water.I am unlikely to make it if I keep thrashing. Thrashing is ineffective and expends energy that I should be trying to conserve. I could be wading way more slowly, in a more coordinated way. I could even be mostly floating.Which is to say maximum effort does not equal maximum results. My life sometimes feels like I have fallen off a ship in the middle of the ocean, and I indeed thrash around a lot. In small and big ways I work harder than I need to.I wake up with a tense jaw because I have been gnashing my teeth while I sleep. At the end of the day I frequently have pain on my shoulders even when I don't remember using them for anything.I clench my jaws when I hold imaginary arguments with people.Imaginary arguments. About things that haven't happened.Sometimes it takes me twenty sentences to explain what I could tell you in six and I fret about things I have no control over - at least not through fretting.I intensely partake in wishful thinking instead of preparedness and mistrust people to do what they tell me they are going to do.Trusting is liberating.I have resolved to be more vigilant about the ways I work harder than I have to, not so much because I want to work less but because I need every ounce of power applied to places where my effort is more likely to count. If a stranger advised me not too work too hard I would thank him for the always useful reminder.

What does it mean when someone says they can read you like an open book?

they can tell exactly what you're feeling or thinking - that can be both good and bad

I met someone that says they are working on acquisitions post Katrina. What does that mean?

Basically, the economy of the gulf area where Katrina hit the hardest is undergoing a major change. Lots of people who were there when the storm hit lost everything and left. That means their property, however debris-strewn, is now up for sale. And there are some savvy investors buying up land which they know will eventually be worth a great deal more than it looks like now.

What does it mean when someone says they want to work in private equity?

When you want to raise money for a business, you often look outside for "investors". In the startup stage, the hierarchy of investments (disputable) is as follows:Friends & Family/Seed Capital -> Angel Investors -> Series A->B->C and so on.People/Firms that invest in startups are called Venture Capital firms, as startups are synonymous with the word "venture". So they put in capital into a venture, hence Venture Capital. However, private equity (PE) does not concern startups. PE concerns established businesses. Another loose definition (going by the BCG matrix below) that VCs look for stars, while PE firms look for cows that they can turn around. So, just as a Venture Capital firm puts in capital into a venture/startup, a PE firm puts in capital into an established business [generally sectors like real estate, manufacturing etc]. PE firms find such businesses, and put in capital in exchange for equity [ownership]. Generally, PE firms put in enough money to acquire a majority ownership. With a majority ownership, these firms then "control" the business. They take new management decisions, and make changes to the business, to improve profits. Why is it "private" equity: Because it is privately owned by the PE firm. A public ownership of equity implies that anyone can buy equity - which is the case with the stock market. PE firms don't touch the stock market. They find businesses which no one else can easily buy into, and turn it around.a. PE firms are not sell side. Investment banks are sell side. PE firms are buy side, as they buy equity. Investment banks help you sell equity. So if you have a factory that makes cloth, you can go to an Investment Bank who will help you sell your equity. b. Varies from region to region, sector to sector, and also greatly depends on the success of your investments.c. Top of my head: Blackstone, KKR, Walburg Pincus. Thanks for the A2A!

How do you react when someone says that they hate their job?

Right now in the United States, we are experiencing a very difficult economic time where many Americans are struggling to find new jobs and many Americans are holding onto jobs they they dread going to everyday because they don't like the pay, they don't see any opportunities for advancement or they cannot stand the people they work work. There are some in the workforce who are not afraid to say that they "I Hate Their Job" and want to do something else.

How do you react when you hear someone complain that they hate their job and that they dread going to work everyday?

When I hear someone complain that they hate their job, I want to tell them that they should be thankful that they have a job that provides them with an income in order to pay their bills, put food on the table and gasoline in their gas tank. After all, there are millions of American out there who would be thankful to have your job even if it meant being paid less money since there are many job seekers out there are do not know where their next meal is going to come from, they don't know how they are going to provide for their children and do not know how they are going to pay for their mortgage in order to have a roof over their head and if you are current employed or underemployed, be thankful you have a job to go to because there is someone out there who is willing to do your job for less money.

What answer can I write if someone says, “looking forward to working with you”?

“Likewise”
