I Would Like To Apply To Nordstrom But What Should I Know Before Doing So

Nordstrom and Drug Testing?

I have applied to Nordstrom Rack and got an email back confirming that they would like to interview me over the phone and whatnot. I have seen what others have written on the hiring process of Nordstrom's but I have not seen anyone talk about drug testing. Does anyone who has been hired recently know if they drug test before your offer of employment is final? Thanks!

P.S. I have not consumed marijuana in the past week, so I need to know if I should keep it that way before I get too far into the interview process

Quitting my job at Nordstrom?

I've never worked at Nordstrom, but the following advice works just about everywhere.

Write a short professional letter that says you're quitting. Here's a basic outline
1st sentence: thanks for the job, its been great, blah blah blah
2nd sentence: I've enjoyed this aspect of the job, blah blah
3rd sentence: this letter is to inform you that I'm resigning from my position here at (company) effective (last day you can work).
4th sentence: I wish (company) the best of luck in the future.

Thank you
your signature in pen
your name

make sure the top of the letter is addressed to your direct supervisor, and dated. Give this to your direct supervisor, tell them why your quiting (which you could put in the letter if you want to) and tell them when your last day is. Ask your supervisor if they would like you to notify HR personally or if they would like to do so themselves.

Should I work at Nordstrom?

You have to be good with the public and remember that everyones perception is different. Meaning you can have one customer that thinks are really cool and the next customer could think are a total bleep. Major con is you get people that come in and know that customer is always right when you no damn well that they are not. I have that problem everyday. Then you are going to get the ones that say does this look good on me and test you. The ones that wear something too small for them and you almost can't stand but help telling them the truth politely. discounts are deffinately worth it, especially with them. At least when I worked for them two years ago. They are the best clothing retail company to work for as far as I am concerned. Your pay can go up real quick if you do your job and go above the call of duty after 90 days. Being your first sales job, you would probably get paid minimum for the company, of which would be different from state to state. The only reason that I don't work there anymore is because I found a higher paying job after I was done with college. Good luck and I am sure that you will do fine as long as you smile and nod.

What's it like to work for Nordstrom?

I worked at the flagship store in DT Seattle in the early 2000s. It would have been a fine job if my boss was not such an irate and irrational lunatic. She spent most of her time calling in the sales team one by one to the stock room to scream at them about their sales numbers. I, thankfully, was the stock person. Even though my job was to stock the shelves, I was still called to the floor often to help customers and ring them up at the cash register. But, since I wasn't a Sales employee, I couldn't earn commission on my sales, so my boss always instructed me to punch in her number when ringing people up. After working the floor, often for hours, ringing up sales for my boss to earn commission on, she would remove me to yell at me for not having any of my actual job tasks done. Somehow she could never understand that if I was busy doing her job, I couldn't do mine. More than a handful of my coworkers had approached HR about the toxic work environment created by our boss. One coworker, with 15 years at Nordstrom, even wrote a 3 page letter about the abuse. All to no avail. Her nonstop craziness became overwhelming and I finally went up to HR on a break to ask for help. Hoping my voice would be yet another signal to them that there was a serious problem. Bad idea. DO NOT GO TO HR. They will not help you. They lied to me, by telling me no one had ever complained about her before. And, they tried to act like I was being sensitive. I decided to spend all of my free time looking for a new job because life is too short. As I was on my way out, a frustrated coworker went to the head of corporate HR and Blake Nordstrom with her complaints. They all scheduled a meeting with my boss. I have no idea if that changed her behavior. I was happy to be out of there. The actual tasks of the job were easy, but the pay was very low. If I had had a nice boss, I could have easily worked there for years. It's typical corporate retail, everyone's fake, hard selling is king, and never trust HR. I'd suggest working there with an escape plan in mind.

How long does Nordstrom take to do a background check?

I was called in to interview for a position at Nordstrom...the competition was between me and one other person....person hiring assured me that both of us would receive a call same day just letting us know who she choose...never called...but i did get a call from HR same day and they asked for me to consent to a background check and they asked for my drivers license....as of today, this was 3 days ago...no one actually said your hired or had me sign anything...DID I GET THE JOB?!?

when should i call to follow up...or should i wait to hear from them...how long do these things usually take...

What do you think about Nordstrom selling hoodies with images of Nanjing massacre?

I think the message conveyed by the design outweighs the fact that Nordstrom is making money from it. The Rape of Nanjing was absolutely on a par with the kind of crimes against humanity committed in Auschwitz and Treblinka, and it’s overlooked outside Asia to a large extent. Now, it’s going to be pushed right into the spotlight as people are going to wear this in public:I know, the idea of a company capitalising off these kinds of moral black holes in human history sits uneasily with me too. People like myself were ending up in concentration camps less than a century ago and the idea of that being monetized wouldn’t leave me with a warm and fuzzy feeling. On the other hand, the fact that we had stuff like the Rape of Nanjing and ethnic cleansing happening mere decades ago should make its way into all those clean and corporate spaces in modern society and should make us feel remind us that inhumanity and cruelty is inherent and potential in every one of us if we’re numbed and driven enough by people who claim to think for us.Happy to discuss and debate any of these points here.

Are Nordstrom employees allowed to wear facial jewelry (tiny nose stud and tiny lip stud)?

I currently work for Sears and recently received a interview for Nordstrom. I just want to know what to expect before I get there. I have my nose and my lip pierced. They are both tiny studs. Sears never had a problem with it but I was wondering if anyone has previously worked at nordstrom or currently works there could let me know their policy on that. I would hate to have to be taking them in and out because I got them done recently. If anyone has any information on this I would greatly appreciate it.

Can I approach makeup artists at the mall/stores (Nordstrom) to do my wedding makeup?

I think it's something you can definitely try, but I wouldn't advise doing this. Your wedding is a special day. It's your day. Going to get your makeup done on a whim like this can be pretty risky because once it's done you may not like what comes out of it. A lot of the brides I have known have set up appointments at makeup counters or with other people to try out well before their wedding day what they want for themselves. That way, on the wedding day there's already a plan set in place. Another reason why you don't want to just go to a makeup artist on the day of your wedding to get your makeup done like this is because (you're right!) it is poor etiquette. In a way, it's sort of like you're taking advantage of their services. One way you could redeem yourself maybe is if you end up buying all of the products that they use on you. Still, the idea of it is kind of tacky. When I got my makeup done for my prom at a MAC counter at Nordstrom, I made my own appointment a couple weeks in advance. A wedding is a bigger deal so as you might imagine, showing up the day of is proably not going to fly.
