I Would Like To Ask About Mono Disease

Mono/ galandular fever/ the kissing disease?

That's not an easy answer... Mono can become quite serious, even rupturing your spleen, if left undetected. So, if you start to get very sick in the next week or so; you should get in to see your doctor. Hopefully mom/dad won't go with you into the exam room and then you can be completely honest with the doc. I would encourage you to voice your fear to him/her because Mono isn't something they routinely check for with the symptoms you may present. (I know because I had Mono at your age and it took 3 office visits before they tested for it..)
Now, having said all that, I think it's likely that you're fine. With so much time in between him & her, then you & him and then her diagnosis, the chances are quite slim that you'll get sick.
Finally, some advice you didn't ask for: Dump the boyfriend. You deserve better.

Is mono similar to lyme disease?

Lyme disease comes from ticks. It is highly unlikely that you have Lyme Disease in the winter, unless you live in southernly US. And mono is has symptoms like a lot of other diseases. I have seen persons with a mono rash, who come in a month later, same symptoms, and it's not mono at all. Lyme disease can also cause flu-like symptoms, so it is good she tested you for that.

What is the kissing disease?

All great answers! I would like two add my two pence idea nonetheless. It gets it’s name from how its spread primarily. The virus is not only in the saliva but also blood and semen. And can thus be spread through sex, organ transplantation, and blood transfusion. Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV). If you escape the saliva the sex gets you. But I think they are a package though not always. And its good to point out that kissing isn't the only way of sharing saliva. The disease in question as other responders have said, is Infectious mononucleosis also termed as glandular fever. The etiological agent for the kissing disease is Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) a member of the Herpes Virus family. It’s alo called the Human Herpes Virus 4. Definition of Kissing diseaseMost people get the infection but remain asymptomatic. Common manifestations of disease include fever, fatigue, anorexia, swollen neck lymphnodes, swollen liver, enlarged spleen, sore throat e.t.c.Epstein-barr | Mononucleosis | About Virus | Mono | CDCThe the disease seems benign from the outset, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. The disease is associated with several autoimmune diseases such as idiopathic Juvenile arthritis, Inflammatory bowel disease, type 1 diabetes, celiac disease, multiple sclerosis, and multiple sclerosis.Epstein-Barr virus protein can “switch on” risk genes for autoimmune diseases It's also associated with several lymphomas (cancer). Epstein–Barr virus-associated lymphomasNo such a thing as an innocent kiss!

Can you get diseases by deep kissing?

Oral hygiene including brushing the teeth, use a good mouth rinse which helps you in freshening the mouth. It maximizes the oral hygiene and flow of saliva in the mouth, BEFORE and AFTER a potential long kissing or an sexual contact may help in minimizing any transmission of potential infections. It should be a regular established practice for all especially young adults who are exploring their sexuality and learning safe sexual practices.   Beside the common cold and flu, there are possibility of contracting the following infections.  A) HERPES INFECTION - Both Herpes Simplex and Herpes Complex can be transmitted through saliva according to CDC data. 66% of the American population under the age of 50 years has herpes simplex infection and approximately one in six individuals possibly has HSV2 infection.Asymptomatic shedding means that if a person is not symptomatic now, even then he could infect you with the disease. Please note that if the person uses his mouth on your genitals the disease may also get transferred to the genitals.  B) MENINGITIS a rare possibility with viruses but bacterial infections spreading via kissing are a distinct possibility, which can be effectively treated with appropriate antibiotics.  C) SYPHILIS - Chancroids or cold sores in the mouth and genitals are on the rise and a distinct probability for spread in heterosexuals.  D) INFECTIOUS MONONUCLEOSIS Another condition that can transferred through kissing and can cause swollen glands, sore throat care is essentially symptomatic with good rest ,hygiene, hydration and good nutrition.  E) GINGIVITIS – Is the exchange of saliva, there is a concurrent transfer of bacteria, which can potentially cause gum infections and even cavities.  F) HIV transmission risk and other STI’s are theoretically possible if there are apthous ulcers or other sores or deep ulcers or bleeding gums.  G) Zika virus potentially transmissible via saliva, semen and other biological fluids. This can cause amicrocephaly i.e. small sized head and brain in newborn children.  H) Oral candidiasis or oral thrush and other kind of fungal infections may occur or coexist in compromised hygiene individuals or compromised immunity individuals

Is there a sickness or disease that would come up on bloodwork as positive for mononucleosis other than mono?

I see the typical "authorities" here have spread their misinformation. Doctors dont usually rely on the white blood cell count to make a diagnosis of mononucleosis. They perform either a rapid test (monospot) or else do complete antibody testing against a variety of EBV antigens.

Positive results on the first kind of test (monospot, or heterophil) might make your doctor say, if the symptoms are fitting, that you have mono. But that test does have many "biological false positives"- ie, conditions that make the test postive though you do not have the disease. Important ones are hepatitis or lymphoma. These can definitley mimic the lingering fever and malaise that usually belong to the commoner mono.

The second type of test (EBV serolgy) is more specific: hang on now as I'm going to get technical- take a breath, streeeech, close your eyes...shantih. Now, if the results on this test show "VCA-IgM positive, VCA-IgG positive, and absent EBNA antibodies" then you have mono. Period. But if the pattern is "positive VCA-IgG and EBNA antibodies, negative VCA-IgM antibodies, and usually positive EA antibodies" then you have had infection more than 3 months ago. BUT- if the pattern is "positive VCA-IgG and EBNA antibodies, negative VCA-IgM antibodies, and NEGATIVE EA antibodies", then you had infection a long time ago, and what you have isnt mono. So, I suggest you go look at those tests.

Now then, do you have mono? As has been correctly pointed out, you dont usually know anyone who gave it to you. The "kissing" business is only if you live that lifestyle- you can get it being a read drudge, because its spread as any respiratory virus. Also, your symptoms DO sound like what would be expected to last for 2-8 weeks in a typical case. If youre worried about something else, though, go get a full blood count, hepatitis screen, and a full physical.

Can kissing transfer diseases?

Some infections are spread when microscopic amounts of faeces (poo) from an infected person with symptoms or an infected person without symptoms (a carrier) are taken in by another person by mouth. The faeces may be passed:directly from soiled hands to the mouthindirectly by way of objects, surfaces, food or water soiled with faeces.Campylobacter infectionCryptosporidium infectionGiardia infectionhand, foot and mouth diseasehepatitis Ameningitis (viral)rotavirus infectionSalmonella infectionShigella infectionthrushviral gastroenteritiswormsYersinia infection. Some infections are spread directly when skin or mucous membrane (the thin moist lining of many parts of the body such as the nose, mouth, throat and genitals) comes into contact with the skin or mucous membrane of another person. Infections are spread indirectly when skin or mucous membrane comes in contact with contaminated objects or surfaces.

How long did you miss school for mono?

I had it in the sixth grade. I only missed a couple of hours on one day just to go to the doctor. I really didn't have any terrible symptoms. I had a lump on my arm near my elbow and they said I had mono. I never missed any school. I just went on as scheduled. Ask God to give you energy and the desire to continue as normal.

CAN MONO KILL YOU or can you get it from a dog?

if your temp gets too high or you get too dehydrated you could die. i'm not sure if you can get it from a dog, but u can pass other ilnesses between human and dog
