Ib Diploma Subject Choices

IB subject choices help, not sure what to do (check comment)?

First of all, I didn’t even know that taking a 7th subject is possible, given that all IB scores are out of 45..and universities take your score, out of 45.If you really want Visual Arts as a subject, I would recommend taking it as you should really study what interests you…and i’m talking from personal experience. I got the highest marks on my higher level subjects and lowest on my standard level, and that is mainly because I enjoyed the subjects I took at the higher level….Before anyone starts claiming that I picked easy highers and difficult standards, I had Math, Physics and Chemistry HL, with English, Economics and French SL. Literally the holy trinity of difficult HL subjects…If you are open to re-arranging your subjects, I would strongly advice against taking both History HL and Psychology HL as they are extremely heavy on the writing aspect. I took Econ SL and probably wrote 8 pages or so, for paper 2 of my final IB exam. I know that History students wrote way more than me….and they have paper 3 as an HL student. If somehow, you ended up with those two exams on the same day, or consecutive days, that’s just the death of your hand…Don’t do it to yourself!Unlike John’s answer, I would recommended keeping English at the higher level as their is almost no difference between SL and HL in literature, so it is essentially a free HL subject for the effort of an SL. Likewise, unless you really enjoy Biology, I would not recommend taking that HL as the amount of memorization is much greater than SL.Something to consider is that 4 of your subjects have a lot of memorization -English HLHistory HLPsychology HLBiology SLYou must memorize things to do well in these courses. You will not get a formula sheet like maths where you just need to know how to apply the formula. You must actually remember that the treaty of versailles was signed on the 10th of January 1920, or that the smallest particles in the lungs are called Alvioli, or Sigmund Freud’s exact quotations. You can’t BS your way through like you can with physics - as long as you understand physics, you can bs your way through long answers. If you have any specific questions, feel free to message me!Rohan

What does an Aice Diploma do?

The Cambridge portfolio of advanced qualifications offers a wide range of subject choice to students preparing for further study or progression to employment.
Selection from three curriculum areas
The Cambridge AICE Diploma involves the selection of subjects from three curriculum areas – Mathematics and Science; Languages; Arts and Humanities from a wide range of subjects available at International Advanced Subsidiary (AS) Level and Advanced (A) Level.
An A Level would count as a double-credit qualification and an AS Level as a full (single) credit course within the Cambridge AICE Diploma award framework. To be considered for an AICE Diploma, a candidate must earn the equivalent of six credits by passing a combination of examinations at either the full (1 credit) AS Level or double (2 credits) A Level, with at least one course coming from each of the three curriculum areas. The examinations are administered in May/June and October/November sessions each year. A candidate working towards the Cambridge AICE Diploma may use up to five sessions to take the equivalent of six full credit examinations as long as they are taken within a 25-month period.

IB subject choices: journalism, law and marine biology?

I'm in the IB system and in grade 10, I am currently making my IB subject choices and here are my choices so far:
- French B: SL
- English language and lit: HL
- Math studies: SL
- Biology: SL
- Geography: HL
- History OR theatre: HL
I am very interested in theatre which is why I put that down, but I am confused whether I should take history or theatre as theatre is something I'm more motivated to do however history is more useful.
And I am thinking of going to UK or Dublin(ireland) and I am unsure if marine biology is appropriate for those countries also if BIO SL is okay for marine biology

What Should I choose for IB Diploma if I want to be a Interior Designer?

I have never heard of some of these subjects before...what are they about? We just take chemistry, biology, economics, history - the usual stuff...I suggest you to take English at HL. I notice that you haven't taken any language at HL. That is kind of disadvantageous in my opinion - languages are quite important for later studies (for general communication especially). Also, consider taking Visual Arts at HL.

By the way, I'm from HK too...but I'm now an overseas immigrant. I'm from Canada. I'm applying to medicine for HKU and CUHK. Hopefully I will get in...lol. The IB schools in Hong Kong have a lot of choices, I noticed - but the price is a lot higher as well...
