Ibuprofen In Neti Rinse

Is bottled (spring) water as safe for a neti pot (i.e. sinuses rinsing) as distilled water or boiled tap water?

No, most definitely not. These waters are in no way guaranteed to be even as safe as tap water and should not be used for neti or eye rinsing applications. Chlorine and such chemicals would only cause minor skin irritation but the microorganisms present could prove fatal. This is because the area at the back of the nose is far more susceptible to infection than say the lining of the mouth. People have been known to have died from parasite infections caused by neti with un purified tap water. Only water that has been boiled for a few minutes should be used. If you are using salt and other additives, add these to the water before boiling and rinse neti pot with the boiled water before use.

How do I prevent sinus infections?

Sinuses are air containing cavities present in certain bones of the skull; mostly in the facial bones of the skull. Their presence is a normal occurrence in all people, rather their absence is abnormal. The question I presume refers to the treatment of sinusitis, which is the inflammation of the lining of the sinuses. Sinusitis causes a variety of clinical symptoms such as headache, fever, pain and tenderness over the affected sinus, nasal discharge etc.The treatment of sinusitis can be broadly divided into two types.1) Acute sinusitis: Individual has sinusitis only for a matter of days. The treatment is mostly medical and includes a course of antibiotics if bacterial invasion is suspected, nasal decongestants such as ephedrine, pain killers, steam inhalation and other conventional methods. Most cases respond to medical treatment and surgery is hardly ever needed.2) Chronic sinusitis: The individual is suffering from months to years. Initial treatment is conservative like for acute sinusitis but is not usually effective and more often than not, the patient requires surgery. Surgery is also preferred when cysts or polyps are present. These days FESS (Functional Endoscopic Surgery of the Sinuses) is preferred and there is no need of an external incision. Recovery is usually quick and uneventful. In order to make the decision of whether surgery is needed or not a lot more factors need to be known and it is not a decision taken on a whim. Mostly surgery is scheduled if medical treatment has proven to be ineffective. Thanks for the A2A.

Semen in my sinus cavities?

Ha, wow. Use a cotton swan and gently clean it out. You'll be fine. If it's dried in there or your still having a hard time, take a hot shower and breathe the steam in. Then blow your nose or use a swab. You could also put some warm water on a swab and clean it out.

Ibuprofen for sinus inflammation?

The only things that really helped me was when my Dr. told me about a sinus wash that will kill bacteria.
you need

distilled water
sea salt
liquid chlorophyll and colloidal silver from the health food store.
in a glass mix 1/4 cup water with a pinch of salt and heat to body temperature.
add 5 drops each silver and chlorophyll and mix.
using a large dropper (like one used for infant medication) drop 2 full droppersfull into one side of the nose while laying down.
Turn the head and let it drain out the other nostril. Be sure to have paper towels handy.
The silver kills the bacteria and there are several hundred kind that can live in the sinus cavities and anti biotics don't get rid of them all.
Do this twice a day for a week, mixing up the mixture fresh each time.
Then do it once a week for maintenance.
There is nothing in this that will hurt you, and it cured me.
I do not have to take claritin, or antibiotics anymore.
best wishes

My sinuses are blocked. I tried using a Neti Pot & the water won't go through my nose. Are my sinuses swollen?

You could just be that congested. You can also try putting a bit of a menthol rub on the nose to see if that will help to open you up. My ENT suggested I try rotating ice packs and heat to loosen the mucous (if any) or swelling in the nasal/sinusus area. If the turbunates are that inflamed in the upper part of the nasal passage the ice may help relieve the inflamation. Once it is beginning to move then use the warm salt water and the Netti Pot.

Can you take Claritin and Zyrtec at the same time? What are their interactions?

Can you take Claritin and Zyrtec at the same time? What are their interactions?A2A question. I would not. If my allergies were bad I would take Zyrtec in the daytime and a sedating antihistamine at night. Diphenhydramine would be the one I would chose.Claritin and Zyrtec are non-sedating antihistamines. All these companies did was take two existing antihistamines and slapped a carboxylic acid group (CAG) on them. Claritin is cyproheptadine with CAG and Zyrtec is hydroxyzine with a CAG added. The CAG prevents it from crossing the blood brain barrier, hence doesn’t get to the brain and cause drowsiness. In my opinion hydroxyzine is superior to cyproheptadine. Their half lives are similar but hydroxyzine is more potent. Neither will last 24 hours in most people. In conclusion, I wouldn’t take them both. One or the other. There are people that do become drowsy on Zyrtec even though the science says they shouldn’t. Only guessing but certain people may be able to cleave off the CAG during metabolism. Not sure.

Can I use the Neti Pot if I have a perforated eardrum?

It probably wouldn't be a good idea for a couple reasons. First, if your nose is stuffed up to the point that you can't breathe well out of it, it's not a good idea to do a sinus rinse because the fluid cant get to where it needs to go and puts too much pressure on your ears. Second, since using the Neti Pot at all can put pressure on your ears, if you already have a perforated eardrum it can make it more difficult for it to heal or even reinjure it. Probably best to try some saline nosedrops or a decongestant. Good luck.

How long will it take for a Neti Pot to reduce my painful sinus pressure? My teeth and face are KILLING me!?

I feel your pain!

I too didn't get complete satisfaction from a recent (2 weeks ago) antibiotic treatment for a sinus infection. It took about 3-4 days for my neti pot to make me feel better but I think that is because I wasn't using the neti pot correctly. I had a very difficult time finding GOOD instructions for how to use it so that I didn't feel horrible every time I tried to use it!

I finally found a website that actually had a video showing EXACTLY how to use one and here it is:

http://www.healthandyoga.com/HTML/produc...

(it's someplace on the website page)

By the way, currently I am just using a regular blue plastic NeilMed NasaFlo Neti Pot with one packet of the Sinus Rinse packets that you can get at any Walgreens. I do it two times a day and follow the instructions on that website I just gave you. The instructions in the Neil Med box stink.

Laura L - I have seen your mixure on other websites and I tried your mixture lying down with the medicine dropper and I thought I was drowning in a swimming pool. I also tried it in a neti pot but had to increase all of the amounts. I am still working on that. The ingredients are great: chlorophill is awesome, I will say again, AWESOME for sinus's and so is the silver so I would love to figure out an exact amount to put into my neti pot. My nose just can't handle the medicine dropper thing.

Good luck to you!
