Gift ideas for 13-15 year old girls and boys?
My husband and I are wanting good cheap gift ideas for girls and boys ages 13-15 yrs old. we give to toys for tots each year. we want to give gifts to the older kids too. so we want ideas under 20.00 that way we can give a lot. We are in the military and stationed overseas. so things like curling iron, hair dryer wont work because the plugs are different

Would you go to your best friend's wedding overseas?
My best friend is in a serious relationship with a girl overseas in Europe (I live in the USA), and it looks like they are going to get married. He has been living overseas for a few years now, and that is how he met this woman. Plane tickets will probably cost $1500 to $2000, and I am sure he may ask me to be in his wedding. He was one of my groomsmen in my wedding. I really really want to go to his wedding, but I don't know if I can shell out $1500 to $2000 for a plane ticket, and traveling overseas to a country where English isn't the predominant language would be tough too. I only have limited vacation time for 2012, and I'm sure I would have to use most of my vacation time to attend the wedding. What should I do? He is still one of my best friends, but it may be cost prohibitive for me to get over there for a wedding, and I don't know if I want to use my vacation time for this.
Is making 1000 cranes a good gift to give to my friend?
A 1000 cranes set is a lovely thought & would be a wonderful present. But you have one problem. How many boxes will it take to ship 1000 origami cranes to Japan? How much will it cost? Remember, airmail is very expensive, & USPS doesn't do overseas surface mail anymore. Mailing parcels to Japan with DHL/UPS would cost you at least $80 for 20 pounds or less. You would do better to send your friend cash by wire transfer. Furthermore, since your friend will be in Japan for 12 months, I would guess his living quarters are not spacious. The average home is only 1000 sq feet in size. Apartments can be as tiny as 100 sq.ft. Where will he put 1000 cranes? He will have it for a few months before he has to pack to return home. What will he do then? Toss the cranes or ship them home? I believe he would prefer to have the wire transfer. Cost of living in Japan is high. Cash is going to be so appreciated even if 1000 cranes gift is a sweet sentimentality. Check the sites referenced for cost of shipping.
Do you buy people presents to bring back when you go on holiday?
Absolutely not. I don’t understand why the fact that someone goes on vacation should be reason for others to receive presents.I ask very close people if they’d want me to purchase something in particular for them and if so, I ask for the money in advance.I bring loved ones small versions of something special that is typical of the place such as Belgian chocolate, Italian balsamic vinegar, Swiss cheese, Israeli bamba snacks or Dead Sea products, English tea, etc. NOT souvenirs.
What is the best authentic American gift to give to a friend from another country? What are items available in the US that are hard to come by in other places, or things that seem like fun American souvenirs?

I think regional food specialties are an excellent gift. I would try to give a present that would suit the recipient's culture and interests.Foods can be good, as long as they don't offend. Alcohol and pork are out if your friend is a Muslim. Cheeses are seen as distasteful by many Asians. Animal products can offend and disgust some religions. Some colors of food are problematic, e.g., black beans or licorice. Root beer and Dr. Pepper are enjoyed in some places, but many Europeans hate them. As a woman who travels internationally quiet often (at least once a year for a couple of weeks), here are some of my must-haves for every trip: Nalgene type water bottle. Exploring a new place, you can work up quiet a thirst, and generally don’t want to have to pay for water, or spend time and more energy hunting water when that extreme thirst hits.Towel.
