Have there been any IITians who have been in the Indian Air Force in the previous years, who rejected the highly paid jobs and took this up? Also, is there any academic performance required to get into IAF?
Academically brilliant guys have one specific type of talent. But, the armed forces actually do not need such guys. They want some sort of 'managers' who will be able to find out an optimum solution in every crisis situation. And remember that you do not get indefinite time to think about solutions.To my knowledge, there have not been any IITian who joined the IAF. Maybe, there are a few. It is unfortunate that most people in the pure civil streets view a job in any of the three armed forces as a job that guarantees death of that person. To a certain extent, our movies are to blame for this scenario. Amongst the Indian movies, whenever a pilot is shown as the hero or the friend of the hero, he dies in an air crash. To my knowledge, the only movie in which the pilot is shown to be 'returning' after a combat related crash of an aircraft, is VIJETA which was released some time in 1983 or so!
