If I Am Homicidal Can I Call 911 Or A Crisis Hotline

Is there a homicide prevention hotline?

They would not call.

How can I call a suicide hotline without them calling the police?

A suicide hotline is required to call the police on you if you are at imminent risk of suicide or homicide. It’s very simple, you just have to be clear with the responder that you are not going to attempt suicide tonight, or the near future. That’s all it takes.Crisis lines don’t want to call on you, they will only do so, if they absolutely have to.

Why aren't there hotlines to call if someone feels homicidal?

It is not a bad thought. However the dynamics of homicide are much different then those of suicide. If memory serves correctly most homicides are crimes of passion involving someone they knew. Homicides tend to be more impulsive, whereas suicidal is generally an erosive process over time. To some extent many with suicidal thoughts and behavior do not want to die as it's more of a cry for help. Homicides are very vendictive and general are not premeditated. Thus it would be hard to intervene due to these dynamics. I am not as well versed in this area as I suicide. You point is good as psychologist we don't recieved treating in homicide prevention which is often couched in terms of the legal setting. Of course in the law enforcement world there job is to try to prevent homicides and they come in contact with this usually after the fact in a crime seen. It would be interesting to see how well it worked. We are required by law to contact a potential victim if our client makes such claims in our office. We cannot call the police only the intended victim.

Homicidal suicide?

A man was found dead in his study. He was slumped over his desk and a gun was in his hand. There was a cassette recorder on his desk. When the police entered the room and pressed the play button on the tape recorder they heard: "I can't go on. I have nothing to live for." Then there was the sound of a gunshot. How did the detective immediately know that the man had been murdered and it wasn't a suicide?

Consequences for prank calling suicide hotline?

My younger sister had a sleep over with some friends and they decided it would be funny to prank call the suicide hot line.
I was unaware of this so when I get a phone call from an angry counselor five minutes later saying they tracked my number and that they were going to alert the authorities, I panicked.
So I called the number back and explained to them what happened, the man on the other line told me that he was going to warn me and that they had tracked my number. He said they could find the billing address and punish me.
Will they still send a cop out and what are the consequences?

What will happen if a minor calls the suicide hotline saying they're suicidal? Will the hotline call CPS?

CPS won’t get involved, unless you state a reason for them to become worried. Then they will call CPS.Most often, they are able to calm you down, and refer you to external resources / professionals. In some cases, they can contact your local emergency services / 911.If you need a more detailed answer (which I would be happy to reply with), just let me know. I attempted to keep this simple.

What causes homicidal tendencies?

There are a number of reasons a person may experience homicidal thoughts or urges and they should always be taken very seriously.Sometimes there are events in the environment that can lead to homicidal rages. The disruption of a relationship, jealousy or thoughts of revenge are examples of situations where a person could become extremely volatile or impulsive and act out without thought of consequences. Once the person calms down he/she can feel significant remorse for his/her actions but the destruction cannot be undone. On rare occasions, during a psychotic break, a person can develop a thought that convinces him/her that committing murder is the only way to resolve the issue presented in a delusion he/she is experiencing. A person’s thoughts in a psychotic state are separated from reality, delusional, disorganized and can be unpredictable. They believe these thoughts or hallucinations are real and sometimes he/she hear voices commanding them to take action.Homicidal ideation or “harming thoughts” can occur as a form of Obsessional Compulsive Disorder (OCD). In this variation of OCD, the person has constant intrusive thoughts telling him/her to do harm to a person. Like many bizarre thoughts that accompany OCD, the person realizes they are not rational, but constant thoughts over time could lead to a psychotic break. There more comprehensive and achievable the homicidal ideation, the greater the threat. A person that has a detailed and fully formulated plan to commit an act of violence towards a person or institution presents as a significant risk to the community and needs to be professionally assessed immediately. Vague homicidal ideation without a plan, usually does not pose as an immediate threat, but it does signal that he/she could benefit from talking with a mental health professional.Homicidal thought or urges do mean something and need to be addressed. It can be range from a cry for help to a warning that something very bad may happen. If a person gets to the point that they are seriously considering harming someone you or are afraid they are not in control of their impulses then you need to seek help immediately. You can call 911 or get them to the nearest hospital emergency room. In northern New Jersey you can also call the crisis hotline from Atlantic Health at 973-540-0100.

I have begun to have homicidal fantasies and thoughts after being depressed for several years. I don't know how to rid myself of them. I know they are unacceptable. What do I do?

I agree with the other three people who have answered this question: find professional help. Call 911. Call a suicide hotline--suicide and homicide are often opposite sides of the same coin. Look for a mental-health facility near you. Call your doctor. If you don't have a doctor, call a social worker. If you're affiliated with a religion, talk to your clergyman or woman for a referral. You're not alone. Many people experience homicidal thoughts at some point in their life, which is why there are online and in-person support groups where you can share, be reassured, and get advice from someone who has been where you are and conquered the problem. Meanwhile, start a list of all your good qualities, capabilities, and attributes. You have good teeth. You're kind to animals. You know how to fix things. Whatever. Build a feel-good portfolio of yourself and add something to it everyday. Dropping clean water every day into a bucket of dirty water eventually results in a bucket of clean water.
