If I Am Using Any Medicine For Psychiatric Problem As Directed By Psychiatrist Is There Any Side

Why are people against psychiatry & psychotropic medication on Yahoo Answers? What nonsense !!?

Those that don't understand, criticize both psychiatry and psychotropic medication. Psychiatry used to do some pretty horrible things and those people may still be reacting to them, or else they are just ignorant.

Is it worth seeing a psychologist/psychiatrist?

Hi--I have worked in psychiatry for over 2 decades.
A psychologist is a 'counselor' and not a doctor.
A psychiatrist is a counselor as well as a medical doctor, and they tend to try and find a medical solution--namely medication to ease your symptoms.
If you are assessed and determined to have depression--there are many types of antidepressants out there, which have become more and more effective 9with less side effects) over the past 40 years!
depression is a disease in which the brain chemistry is off. There are 2 things that are usually affected--one is serotonin (the 'feel good' neurotransmitter) and norepinephrine. people who do not produce enough--or it passes through their blood too quickly, will often suffer with depression.
if you see a psychologist, he/she will most likely suggest you see a psychiatrist--so you may want to cut to the chase.
Antidepressants take 4-6 weeks to build up in your body--it is not a magic pill, that you take and then feel better---(like anti-anxiety medicines, like xanax, klonopin, ativan, etc).
What a psychiatrist/psychologist tells you is what they believe you may be suffering from--and what you need to make things better. They are specialists in the field and deal with this everyday.
It is often the patient who thinks their situation is far worse/exaggerated than it really is.
I don't think you are being dramatic--and would benefit from seeing a mental health professional and be assessed.
You deserve to be happy and healthy!
Good luck.

Do Psychiatrists study Psychology?

Psychiatrists must go through the full program of medical school, like every other doctor, and then they add on training in mental health. Psychiatrists are medical doctors. They learn the medical side of mental health, including the various biological reasons for different mental health problems, and medical treatments for mental health problems. To understand what is normal and what is a problem, psychiatric curriculum does include the study of psychology. Not all psychiatrists are extensively trained in clinical therapy, that is, they do not all learn to do the counseling side of mental health. But they all learn about psychology as a science. They learn to be able to recognize someone with a healthy psychological profile, to recognize when someone has some kind of psychological or psychiatric problem, to diagnose that problem, and to prescribe a treatment plan. Many psychiatrists do learn to provide therapy, but many do more work doing diagnosis, prescribing and following medical treatments for mental health needs, or working in hospitals.Psychology is a required subject, but learning to provide clinical talk therapies of various sorts, are not offered consistently to all psychiatry students, rather, it depends on the program and choice of the psychiatric student.

I need professional psychiatric advice, help anyone?

Okay, how to start this... I'm 17 and I've had one recorded episode of major depression when I was 16. Different psychiatrists have diagnosed me with different things - varying from PTSD, anxiety disorder NOS. Others say I show symptoms of social anxiety or agoraphobia... But also, my father was/is bipolar. (I'm a female, I should have mentioned.) My great uncle on my mother's side was schizophrenic and psychotic. I've shown symptoms (at least that I think) of bipolar.. aka mania.. Insomnia, increased self-worth, sexual promiscuity, I start things and stop them because I lose interest too quickly.. My mind works too fast sometimes. I don't know. I also have substance abuse problems. I like to do cocaine, smoke marijuana and cigarettes, and drink at least once or week.. I talk to my psychiatrist about this all the time but she's of no help. I need advice, opinions, at least a comment to help give me some peace of mind. But please don't comment if it's some load of crap. I'm being totally serious, so please, if you feel you can help me, do so.

What is the best Allopathy medicine for anxiety and depression?

I was officially diagnosed with anxiety disorder and depression in 2013, during my student days at IIT Bombay. This is what my psychiatrist at the IIT Hospital prescribed for me:Pexep (10 mg) (Pexep CR (Paroxetine) - United Pharmacies)Lonazep (0.25 mg) (Mental Health Information: Uses and side effects of Lonazep tablets)I am attaching a picture of the prescription here:At this point, I would also like to add that medicine alone will not help you overcome depression. I speak from experience. Go for regular professional psychiatric counseling and DO NOT take any medicines without prior approval from a professional. There can be adverse or side effects. Also, make up your mind to get out of depression and be happy again. It is possible only if YOU will it.
