If u book straight way search hotels through Google or any other search engines or through different hotel booking sites such as Trivago, Booking.com, Yatra etc. set your criteria and when they matches contact the hotel directly. If u gone through those sites u will have some discounts but rates may b higher. If discounts matters u can negotiate directly to the stay owner on the basis of time of travelling(off season / low season) no of days stays or max number of heads. Group stays have more discounts than single or double heads. If goes through agency rates little higher because they have their booking commissions. Kerala tourism also offers stays those are very good to stay but rates high for solo travelling. Some area offers home-stays as well holiday home concepts. The company that I book with online have a "box" in which you insert any special requests. I always enter the floor that I would like and whether I want a room facing the pool or the sea. A couple of weeks before I'm due to arrive I send an email to the manager, whose card I have, and repeat my request. It has never failed yet but I have been going to the same hotel for some years now. Don't leave it until you check-in as rooms will be allocated in advance of your arrival. It should be easy to find the email address of the hotel. Just tell them when you are arriving and that on your last visit you were very impressed with the room they gave you, so much so that you would appreciate it if they would allocate the same room this time. Then tell them how much you are looking forward to staying in the hotel again and that you look forward to seeing them all. It works wonders. Good luck.

Arriving early to a hotel, I often hear "your room is not ready yet." Do hotels reserve you a particular room or do patrons simply have a spot in the hotel reserved for them?
Yes, it is the latter! You have a spot reserved, but not necessarily a specific room. Let's say a hotel has 100 rooms, and that they sell all 100 rooms on the day you're checking in. Let's say check in time is 3pm and you arrive at 12pm. There's a good chance that many rooms haven't been cleaned or inspected yet, as a housekeeping supervisor (in well maintained hotels) must go through and inspect all rooms AFTER housekeepers have cleaned them, and often times housekeepers will need to go back and fix a thing or two. At that point the supervisor has to inspect the room again. Additionally you may have some people who were granted a late checkout, generally no later than 1–2 hours after the regular checkout time. Finally, hotels have only so many of each room type. So, if you've got a suite, handicapped room, etc - there are far fewer of them and it'll take longer to get you into your room. Unfortunately when a hotel is at capacity a person who's not in need of an ADA or hearing impaired room will be placed into that room type because that's all that's left. To get into your room more expeditiously always request a regular king or double queen room. These are the reasons why most hotels have a check in “window”. Your confirmation letter/email may say ‘check in BEGINS at 3pm’ or ‘check in is from 3pm - 7pm’. Another option is to pre-register. Many hotels, such as the one I work in, will offer you this option. Which is to say that you'll do everything that you would normally do at check in, except get the key(s) to the room. However, it makes your life much easier at check in time, as all you've got to do is pick up your key(s), rather than wait in a long line of people who are going through the full check in process. Many hotels will also store your luggage and deliver it to your room when it's ready. I hope that helps!
