As long as you have Steam installed, you can re-download your game any number of times and play it again.As for if your game progress is saved: depends on the game.On the Store page of the game, look for this symbol:If it exists, it means that the game uses Steam Cloud service, and that means your saved games are (or can be) saved to the cloud. Usually if the feature is there, it will happen automatically each time you run the game, as long as you are connected to the Internet and to Steam.

Steam games are installed directly into your hard drive. You may delete and reinstall your steam games as many times as you want. So if you played through Brotherhood and wish to use those 10 gigs for something else, just uninstall the game. You can reinstall it later if you wish. If you want to stream your games, look into OnLive (OnLive requires a very fast internet connection, and doesn't have a very large selection of games yet)

There are actually three questions I have concerning Counter-Strike Source. 1) If I buy Counter-Strike: Source used from Amazon.com (in disc form), will the game itself be added to my Steam Account? 2) Will the CD key still work for me if the game is used? 3) Will the game work on my Windows Vista computer? (The Amazon.com entry only says "98/2000/Me/XP". I'm thinking it still works, but I'd like that to be confirmed.)
Is Steam safe to use to buy and download games?
Yes, I have it installed on my computer and I use it to buy source engine games. If it wasn't safe there wouldn't be over 15 million accounts. The only thing that sucks about steam is you have to be always connected to the internet to play your games and you can't install games you bought on another computer.

The games you purchase on steam will be linked to your account. Meaning, if you have another computer you want to use, just log into your account and the games should be ready to download. NOW, that being said, Steam is so awesome they have a folder called "steamapps" (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps) just copy that over to an external hard drive, and paste it under the same directory on the new computer- no installing, all save files there, no hassle, except that your steamapps folder can get quite large (mine is 100gb at the moment)

Old games will lose progress if you do not act to prevent it in advance. To this day, games are being created that will lose progress if you do not act to prevent it.If there are specific games that you wish to save progress on, start googling them to find out where they keep their save files. If you're on Windows, you'll find many of the saves in subdirectories of C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Local. For instance, World Of Goo saves in C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Local\2DBoy\pers2.dat and does not back up to Steam cloud. Older games may save directly into the game folder in your Steam directory. Lastly, there are games (such as Thomas Was Alone) that save so little data that they can do it in the Windows registry. You will lose progress on such games unless you know the registry keys involved and what to set them to.
Will Steam recognize any cracked or pirated game installed in my computer?
I have a cracked copy of skyrim (already bought the ps3 and xbox version ) ,it’s even in my steam library at this moment as a non steam game and I haven't been banned yet, so you should be good. plus I'm pretty sure that would be a breach of your privacy from steam's side if they knew what you were downloading.
