Federal background Check + STA + Sealed Felony?
IT will show up. Your confusing sealed with expunged. Nowadays, with the advent of computers, nothing is hidden anymore. Because the information is not public. It doesn't mean that it is not available. And federal backround checks show EVERYTHING. Quick note- When I was applying for my FFL. They did a backround check on me. They found the one and only ticket I ever received in my life(it was for crossing a double solid line, I was 16. And this was in 1976. It was supposed to be sealed because I was under 18). It never popped up in the backround checks when I joined the USMC, or the FDNY when I joined them. And yes, you can get your own Fed backround check. But it is not as extensive as a government check. You can petition the court to SEAL your arrest record. BUT>>> When the court grants your sealing, they ONLY report the information to a select number of agencies (just government). The large companies that hold information are never notified that your record has been altered. These background check companies obtain a record of arrest or conviction when it happens, but never follow up or keep up with changes. This is what you need to worry about when it comes to getting jobs in the future, or passing a check for an apartment or credit line. Your case was sealed automatically when you turned 18. You don't get to make the request. If you are concerned about the status of the case then you need to contact the records department or the court clerk that is in charge of pending or open cases at the Ada county courthouse in Boise to check. I doubt they will allow you to unseal the record. It will serve you no benefit.
