If I Go To Community College

Can i go to a community college if i owe another college money?

I wanna say NO and this is why:

Even if you dont mention the previous school, you still would have to send your academic transcript. And if you get the one from your high school, you would basically have to lie and say that you took time off after high school in order to explain the time gap (if it is a huge one anyways) And some colleges directly request the highschool transcript and also any other schools that you have applied for. IN your case the school that your no longer attending would show up.
Also if you HYPOTHETICALLY got into the school, when you apply for financial aid/ loans, your new school would get notice of the loans that have already been paid off in your name as well as grants and stuff.
So you kinda wouldnt be able to do anything until you have the old school paid off because most new schools dont take new studest who are not in good academic standing with their previos school.

If I go to a community college for 2 years then go to a normal college, can I change my major?

When I taught at community college, I had 3 kinds of student: students seeking an associate's degree or professional degree as their final education experience (not planning to get a bachelor's); students planning to transfer to a 4 year school to get their bachelor's degree; and students who just wanted to take classes for continuing ed or personal interest. The thing I found most frustrating were students who were the second kind, but still thought they had to receive their AA before they could transfer. I had a friend who spent 5 years in community college because he wanted the AA, and he couldn't pass his math class. When he transferred, he didn't even need that class to get his BA. He spent less time in his 4 year school and graduate school combined than he did in community college. That's not how the system is supposed to work.If you are going to a community college for 2 years before going on to a 4 year school, you should have an idea of what school you would be transferring into, and how credits transfer. Most community colleges have articulation agreements with specific 4 year schools, where all credits (or at least all gen ed credits) transfer. If you don't have that, then you need to know which credits will transfer, and only take those. I have found that, depending on the major, a lot of major classes don't transfer between schools. I have less experience in the sciences than in the arts and humanities, so I don't quite know how that works. But people do change their minds about their majors all the time, even in 4 year schools. People go from being English majors to Chemistry majors at the turn of a dime. Many schools say that you have to have declared your major by the beginning of your 3rd year of college. If you spent your first two knocking out gen eds, then you enter your 4 year college with a major in mind, then you aren't behind at all.

Am I really a loser if I go to a community college?

I'm 17 and want to go to a community college for one year or a year and a half. I was homeschooled for high school and I know that if I want to go to the university that I want to go to, I'd have a much better chance of being accepted if I started at a CC and then transfered.

I feel embarassed to go to a community college because people make mean comments and jokes about CC's. People say that you're a loser if you go to one. Some people will say things like "her loser boyfriend isn't even that smart, he goes to a community college". I'm not even dumb at all but I hate the fact that where I'll be going to college at is the butt of many jokes. I knew a guy that went to a CC for one year before going to a university and I don't think he's a loser at all. I hate that some people will think that I'm dumb for going to one. People act like if you go to a CC that you won't make anything of your life and I hate that.

Do I need to go to community college if I have a GED to be accepted by a university?

I don't have a high school diploma or GED. VCU looked at my grades and SAT scores and offered me a full scholarship after my junior year of high school.

If your grades/SAT are good, you shouldn't need community college. The thing about VCU's art school, is that they're not especially picky about who they accept- but they make the first year really intense to try and wash people out. The first year is almost exclusively art-related classes; doing a double major will be challenging.

Can i go to a community college out of state? is this stupid?

Although it is not necessarily a stupid decision to make, it may not be your wisest either because community colleges are supposed to be much cheaper than the university, but if you attend out of state, you'll be paying twice as much as an in state student, which could end up costing you about 6-8 thousand dollars for one year vs. 3-4 that you would pay if you attended back home. If you're going to attend college out of state, you would be best off going to a university and paying the extra money to get an education there, providing the universities in Chicago are better than those in Philadelphia.
