Yes, DVD players are region-coded so that they will only play DVD's from their own region. You will either need a "Region Free" DVD player (there are a few out there, you have to look for them though), or you can play them on your PC if you have a DVD drive. You will need to change the region on your PC DVD player though, and you can only do it a certain number of times, usually 5. So after you change the region 5 tmes, it will get stuck in whatever you change it to last. But you can change it to French and leave it there until you have watched all your DVD's (or copied them *wink*), and then change it back. Changing the region won't interfere with your data CD's and DVDs like software, so you don't have to worry about that. To change the region, open Windows Explorer and right-click on your DVD Drive (usually D: or E:) and choose Properties. Click the Hardware tab. Select your DVD drive (again) from the list and click the Properties button. Click the Region tab. Change to France. In this section it will tell you how many more times you can change the region before it is locked. You can download DVD Shrink and make a copy of your DVDs while you have it set on France region (which will remove the region coding) and then you will have a digital copy you can watch any time, or burn to a DVD-R and watch on any DVD player!

It's very rare, but it has happened to me once at a border crossing (not an airport). They did a normal search and deleted one file, but they didn't search the "hidden" files. It's nothing to be afraid of unless you have a tremendous stash of what Saudi customs would consider "pornographic." All the items you listed would NOT cause any problems in the highly unlikely event that they look into your files. However, Saudi customs do occasionally attempt to enforce international anti-piracy laws, so if you have recordable CD's or DVD's there's a chance they will want to check them out, and if they contain pornography or pirated material they will be confiscated. By the way, if you're from the United States, you should be aware that your own country does not have a concept of "PRIVACY" in these situations either. The U.S. government reserves the right to search your person, your belongings, and the files on your computer at any border crossing, including airports, and the consequences of having "prohibited materials" (e.g. an unlicensed copy of Windows) can be FAR more severe than anything you can face in Saudi Arabia (where the worst that will happen is they'll delete the offending file), especially if you have the misfortune of being an Ayrab.
