If I Serve In The Army National Guard For 4 Years Am I Able To Transfer Into The Navy

Army Reserves, Navy Reserve, or national guard?

I want to go to college for 4 years and be close to my girlfriend that is going to Westpoint so things will work out better, I don't necessarily have a problem with going on active duty for a while, and how long do they make you go on active duty? I would like a combat job or at least something where I use weapons. I am more of a combat kinda guy, but I do want to become a firefighter after I get done with the reserves, if I decide not to re-enlist.

US Army National Guard?

I am planning on doing the Split Option Program and joining the National Guard as an Infantryman so I can go to college but also serve. I really want a back up plan for when I get out. After I finish college, it would be around the time my first enlistment is over, so is it possible to change to Active Duty? Also, what are the chances of Airborne School for NG? Let me remind you, you go to Basic Training between your Junior and Senior Year for split option program, then AIT the summer you graduate. I am constantly hearing about veterans becoming homeless or having financial issues after getting out, and I don't want to take the route. I really want to serve though, and waiting another 4 years would be misery. I live near Buffalo, New York, so I really don't know where any Infantry Units are stationed. From a veteran/current service member, Is this a good plan? I would like to make the Military a career, so leaving the option open for officer is big for me. My uncle who is currently a SNCO in the Air Force Reserves with nearly 30 years of experience said people say it is harder then it actually is... I'm not sure if it's the same situation for NG though. If I kept trying, would i eventually get Active Duty out of College? Thanks for the answers beforehand. It I do follow through with this, I will attend Basic Next summer.

How long into a 4 year contract in the National Guard until i can transfer to another branch of military?

You can try to switch into active duty through a conditional release, you would talk to the active duty recruiter and they will give you the papers to take to your chain of command, if its approved you can go active, for the marines you'll have to redo training because they have different training standards.

The U.S. National Guard Reserves "Non-deployable"... Is this for real?

My son wants to join a non-deployable unit in case of national disasters. He wants to help out with fires, flood, hurricanes and earthquakes. The National Guard offers LARGE financial incentives, too. He is looking for an additional retirement plan. I don't think he is joining to serve in Iraq, but he will if called upon.

My concerns are his wife and children. He will be so different when he comes home. He put lots of walls up after the navy, and it wasn't during the Gulf War, it was after. He became distant, claims he doesn't remember his childhood anymore, and can't seem to find happiness within. He lost is sentinmental values, too.

I can't figure out why his wife and children aren't his priority. He is my only child. Two others died as infants. This whole thing scares the sh** out of me.

Who has better educational benefits? Army National Guard or Navy?

Hey guys, here is my dilemma. I plan on joining the Armed Forces, going to college, and potentially making a career out of it. Here is where I am stuck, Navy, or Army National Guard, who will pay more towards my education?

I have visited a Navy recruiter, and he gave me some info. He said that if I joined the Navy, i would get the Post 9-11 bill, which will pay 100% tuition, and give me E-5 BAH for the school's zip code. He also said this will only cover 3 years of education then its out.

I visited an Army National Guard Recruiter as well. He said that if I joined the guard, I would get $4,500 per year from Tuition Assistance, $12,000 from the Guard GI Bill (over 3 years), and my choice of EITHER Montgomery GI Bill of around $65,000 or the Post 9-11 GI Bill (again, 100% tuition and E-5 BAH), both for only 3 years.

Are the numbers i am getting accurate? (Washington State for the Guard). Or are they giving me some inaccurate info?

I wanted to join the Guard because it seems like they would be able to give more money, and i'd be able to stay close to home while i knock out college. They also said that if i was in the SMP (Contracted with the AROTC), that i would get an additional $350 per month.

Thanks in advance for answers.

If I do 3 years Army ROTC at my university can I serve in a different branch after I graduate?

Problem is there are no officer MAs. At least not like you are thinking of.

(Also, a crim justice degree is useless to the Navy).

Your best bets would be OCS if you want to go Navy.

If you go Army ROTC, you would have to join Army (or Army Reserve, or Army National Guard). You cannot join the Navy through AROTC. It might be possible to finish your obligation to the Army and then switch to the Navy, but it's HIGHLY unlikely. Going the other way is far more likely.

Edited to add: Feel free to email me, I'll answer them via PM in the next couple days.

Can retired military join the National Guard?

No. Not even if they are still young enough to serve. Once you’ve retired from military service, that’s it. Besides, once retired, why go back in? The idea is to get enough time in to where you can retire at 20, 22, 24, 26, 28 or 30 years, depending on rank achieved before being ‘forced’ out of service, so that you can retire…the more years you put in the more you get in retirement pension; and then be able to kick back and enjoy life.I retired 24 years ago this coming November and have been enjoying it every since. I was 47 when I retired and was able to work a civilian job for nearly 20 years when I retired from it. Are there times I wish I could have still be on Active Duty? Yes. Would I do it all again if I could? Yes. Would I jump back into it after just retiring? NO! That’s why I retired. But I did enjoy it while I was in. And am proud to be a Veteran and for having done so.

Is 4 years military service a possible waste of my life?

Yes. Not only those 4 years but the years after can have a net negative effect. The military is not for everyone, and there is nothing wrong with it not being a fit for you, nor it is admirable that it is a fit for some. The military, to sum it up, is poor peoples children fighting for rich peoples profits. When we join, we do it because we think we are doing the right thing. We take our oath of enlistment where we swear to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic”Not until you get in do you realize the corruption and sickening greed.I am telling you this as a combat veteran. I can tell you that it was good for me(financially in the beginning, relative to my other known options), I got my education paid for, and a few other benefits. I can also tell you that if I knew about other options, I would have done something else. It is now more evident than ever that the military is not there to “defend” but to fight for an imperialistic ambition of the elite.Any “skill” that you gain in the military could be easily obtained at a local community college, coworking shop, or an apprenticeship. For example, you can learn carpentryCarpentry / Building And Construction TechnologiesDo you like tech? well how about various online courses like Coursera that are free and very high qualityIf you do think you want to go into the military, I would look into the Air Force or Navy as they seem to have a lot of fun, get treated like humans, and many often get valuable job training. However, there is a very negative stigma against veterans. It will hurt you more than help. I actually removed my military experience from my resume and I got far better results that way.If you join the military, start a small business on your spare time doing the same job, get client testimonials, photos of your work, etc. This way you can say that you have been freelancing the past 4 years.JFK said “ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country” but do you really want to support a country that voted for this assholeoh wait… we didnt vote for him…. Hillary won the popular vote but Trump was put into power by the gerrymandering of the Republican party.
