If I Will Work In Real Estate Sector Did My Experience Will Count For Further Sector Like Fmcg Or

What kind of work experience is required prior to pursuing an MBA in India? Should he take up a job in the field he wants to do his MBA? Should he try different industries to determine the best fit?

Thanks for A2A.All genuine questions ... but perhaps not the real question that you should be asking yourself before doing MBA.I will try and answer all of them ..1. Yes relevant work experience is always better than non-relevant work experience. 2. Trying different things at young age never hurts. What really hurts is not being able to convey it on your CV or in the interview appropriately.3. Working in bank is not completely necessary. Corporate Finance or Financial consulting are equally relevant. Ofcourse, back office functions that are completely non-related to finance wont help either.4. 95+ is not a strong CAT score. 98+ (with consistency across sections) is. And, no one expects a fresher to have a a management job role before MBA.5. NGO volunteering is a bit of hoax. And interviewers make that out if its done recently only. I would suggest that learning a new language is a better CV booster and a real asset for the future.6. Well, to bluntly answer prima facie ... the private bank. However, it would all depend on the real job profiles.7. Elite MBA programme in my mind is IIM A, B and C and ISB (only a personal opinion). The requirements are pretty simple for IIMs ... crack the CAT and the interviews. Work experience counts .. but has a smaller weightage. Unless, you work at a brand, it doesnt really count at the IIMs. For ISB, crack the GMAT and have a strong work ex of over 3 years. It helps to have a well-rounded CV. Build ur profile with languages, travelling, sports, etcHope this helped. Now, I would just venture to say that these are very defensive questions. Not the real questions that help you take a decision. The real question is "Why do you want to do an MBA?" This requires a lot of thinking. Be brutally honest to yourself. Answers could be :1. Genuine interest in learning about "business" 2. Meeting 100-400 young intelligent exciting people3. Getting a big dream job4.Taking a break to explore yourself over a period of 1 - 2 years 5. Social prestige6. Proving something to your family members7. Doing it because everyone is doing it etc etc etc ...Be brutally honest. Once you have the master question answered, all other questions are just derivatives. You will answer all the 7 questions you asked differently every single time if your main motive to doing a MBA is different !Hope this really helped ! All the best !

I want to shift from a 5 year career in real estate BD to FMCG or logistics. How can I do it? I am a commerce graduate!

You need to contact a few placement firms who can route your resume into the correct channel within the FMCG industry, alternatively, you can leverage any of your known contacts in the FMCG industry for any roles that may be open.Leverage your network!

What is the effect of work experience in placements at B-schools in India?

Under graduation from the topmost ranked institute in India in your field and having no prior work experience before doing the two year PGP from the top three IIMs is by far the best possible combination to have for the most sought after post MBA career paths in investment banking, strategy consulting, conglomerate fast tracks (like TAS) and FMCG marketing. If you have minor pre-PGP work experience (less than a year) it can be ignored by these recruiters but higher pre-PGP work experience (of over one year) may effectively rule you out from being shortlisted by many of them. Also those with some work experience will be placed at the same level and salary as IIM freshers.Engineers with prior work experience of two to three years in engineering projects or manufacturing are prefered in operations management, operations consulting and in product management of technical products. Also engineers with higher level of prior work experience of two to three years in IT sales and IT projects (not just coding) are prefered by recruiters in IT consulting. Those with prior finance experience are also recruited for corporate finance jobs at higher levels. Some conglomerates offer higher level entries. Other options for those with high experience are business development, e-commerce, real estate, communications, energy and media. These specializations typically offer lower salaries than offered to freshers at the IIMs in the more sought after investment banking, strategy consulting, conglomerates and FMCG marketing.Recruiters at IIM that count prior experience in setting their salary offer will typically add INR 150k per completed year of relevant prior work experience and will add INR 50k per completed year of work experience considered not relevant. Typically any work experience that is more specialized and longer will drastically reduce the range of jobs that you will be shortlisted for during IIM placements. However it will give you an advantage if you prefer to go back to that same specialization. Switching to other specializations becomes very difficult unless you are in the top 10% of the IIM batch.

Which sector is good after MBA marketing like FMCG or IT sector?

FMCG is evergreen and IT is challenging . Depends on your work style and passion. More or less the marketing strategies used for FMCG are the same vis a vis creative Ads, Competitive Pricing , presence of a key Brand Ambassador etc like Fair and Lovely , Shampoos with most of time NO proven results but customers do buy them because of carishma and impact of Marketing .However in IT before the client buys a product you need to show them profit driven results , long term viability of the solution offered , impact on their profit margins and VALUE which the product adds to their organisation. Also , you need to keep yourself technically updated with ever changing IT business with niche skills and more realistically customer driven solutions. So , it depends which ride you wanna take for long run. Wish you all the very Best !!

What are some career options after completing studies in biotechnology?

I have spent over 12+ years in graduate education and working in companies across US and India. In my opinion, after an undergraduate degree in biotechnology, I think there are plenty of opportunities to go after that most students/faculty oversee. Most faculty in biotechnology think that, the next steps after an undergraduate degree is to go for Phd/Msc. I strongly disagree with this.In addition to courses such as Master`s/Phd inBiotechnology, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Pharmacology etc…I would suggest you to also look at the following options…Patent Agent/Lawyer/Attorney (Biotech + Legal Experience/Degree)Management (Biotech + Experience + Good MBA Degree)Biomedical/Biomechanical Engineer ((Biotech + Experience/Degree in Bio related Product Engineering)Bioprocess Engineer (Biotech + Experience/Specialization in downstream processing). This area has lot of potential.Clinical Research Related Jobs (Biotech + Experience/Specialization in Clinical Trials)Clinical Data Analysts (Biotech + Experience/Specialization in SAS/R/SPSS)Bioinformatics (Biotech + Specialization in Bioinformatics)Sales & Marketing-Biomedical Equipments/Assays (Biotech + Experience in Salesand there are many more…..Also with good experience you can also look at entrepreneurship as an option. There are lot of funding available from the Indian Government to promote biotech startups. Please join the conversation at the Biotechnology Jobs & Graduate Education Forum if you have any questions related to higher education or have any questions related to which field to choose in Biotechnology/ Biomedical/ Bioengineering,To set up a consulting call, you can reach out to me anytime at ^Prashant - Talkwise
