If Lincoln Had Adopted

Lincoln? Apush?

"Lincoln was one of the most democratic and also one of the most autocratic of presidents." Explain whats is ment by this statement and then give reasons for either agreeing or disagreeing with it.

I have to write an essay off of this. SO my question for you all is...

How was lincoln autocratic?
How was lincoln democratic?
What did he do for him to be defined as either of those things?
With that what does the statement above mean?

Im in Apush and i am SOO LOST...im going to fail please help me.!!!!!!

If Lincoln had adopted a more conciliatory course, do you think the outcome would have been any different? Would it have averted war?

The southern states seceded from the union even before Lincoln was sworn in as President, so any "conciliation" would have simply been the acceptance of the loss of those states. This would have likely averted war (at least in the immediate future) but it would not have resolved the main problem, which was the splitting of the country.

And the simple historical fact is that he made conciliatory statements in the period between his election and his taking office, indicating that he was not out to eliminate slavery and he was not out to limit states rights, but that he could not acquiesce to secession. The south refused to listen or to make any effort at compromise.

As can be seen in modern politics (Obama versus the Republican Congress), there is no use in conciliation when one party refuses to compromise.

Would you have recommended that Lincoln adopt a more conciliatory course?

Yes, but it wouldn't have made any difference. The states that seceded had threatened to do so before the 1860 election. Lincoln was such a divisive figure that most of the "slaves states" refused to remain in a nation with him as President.

With the death of Lincoln, congress adopted a policy of?

The correct answer is (a) extreme harshness toward the south.

The policy was known as "Reconstruction," and its proponents in the Congress were known as the "Radical Republicans."

What if Abraham Lincoln had adopted the philosophies of Jenna Jameson? How would the U.S. be different?

I think you give Ms. Jameson a little too much credit by calling her political beliefs “philosophies.”I follow her on Twitter and, best I can tell, she's a former porn star who made good business decisions (thereby making millions), retired, converted to orthodox Judaism, got married, had a kid and now holds center right views while remaining relatively famous based on her body of work (ahem). Her political leanings are right wing now, probably inspired by her business experience (fiscal conservatism) and her religion (social conservatism), and I confess I never focused on her intellectual curiosities as a younger man (ahem), but she's not so far outside the mainstream as to cause a violent shift in American history.

Should we adopt John Oliver's suggestion about the Confederate battle flag?

Wow..the worst people in the world?  Southerners who have a Dixie belt buckle are more evil than, say, Kim Jong Un? A southern belle with a Dixie Flag Patch on her Daisy Dukes is worse than the piece of Shit shooter himself? How about a little league team named the Rebels with a little flag patch proudly sewn on their sleeves? Thank ALLAH for the nice young lads from ISIL to keep those Flag-Bearing Hitlers from spreading their demon seed.Welcome to this place, whoever you are. It's crammed full of assholes full of ignorance and hatred exactly like you. Go to hell, sir.

What if Abraham Lincoln had adopted the philosophies of Adolf Hitler? How would the U.S. be different?

Had he done so the US would be very different because it never would have had a President Lincoln. The political factors which were prevalent in Germany that apologists give as the reason for Hitler's rise to power were not prevalent in the US at the time Lincoln ran for office.

Has anyone worked on the U.S.S Abraham Lincoln and what was the experience like?

Two of my closest friends from high school were both plankowners on the Lincoln: one was a Navy electronic warfare specialist and the other was part of the Marine detachment, so they had very different perspectives on life on the ship. They both joined the ship approximately in October 1989 when it was ported at Newport News, VA and were part of the crew through the better part of their enlistments. I was stationed at the amphibious base in Little Creek VA in late 1989 so I got to see quite a bit of my pals up through the end of the year, and didn’t see them again until January of 1992 when the Lincoln pulled into Long Beach, CA, after having pretty much been completely around the world by this point.USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) history

What did Lincoln meant by this quote: “The philosophy of the school room in one generation will be the philosophy of government in the next”?

The answer can be given by the surviving students of School mass shootings in US High Schools who have traveled the country to protest gun violence and lack of any gun control. Lincoln would have been proud of them and they are the very definition of what Lincoln said. Here’s why;As the only true adults in the United States, they will run our country in the future, instead of the crooked and incompetent politicians that make up most of the current Executive Branch and and the US Congress and their NRA masters. To paraphrase a famous British patriotic song, “Rule, Millennials, Millennial's rule the future, and our future young leaders never, never never will be slaves to American apathy”(Addendum; Other answers here are stating Lincoln didn’t say this. But I want my basic message to stay up, regardless of who said that saying).
