Why do we have so many Hispanics in the United States? Why are they allowed in?
Some of my ancestors came here without papers. There were no standards and they didn't ask permission. One was born on the Mayflower. So no, there were not "always standards." About 100 years ago the standard was answering a few questions on Ellis Island. A whole lot more of my ancestors entered this way. By and large, my ancestors, and the majority of immigrants, just weren't making it in their own country for a variety of reasons, so they thought they'd give it a shot elsewhere. They definitely were not the top 2% of anything. They had no money, did not speak the language and had had no opportunity back in the home country. Like most adult immigrants, they did not learn to speak English. Their children did. Hispanics do not equate with Mexican. Puerto Ricans are Hispanics. We don't "let them in." They are American citizens. No, it isn't well-known that Mexicans have all the things you mentioned. In the case of illegals, Mexican or otherwise, crime rates are generally lower where there are more illegal Hispanics and EVERYBODY works. Most people fly under the radar, drive the speed limit and try to go unnoticed. They try to stay out of trouble. No one is actually letting Hispanics in. The Puerto Ricans are Americans. Many other Hispanics come from other countries, and then there quite a few from Mexico and other places that come here illegally. Yes, there are standards and they are so high in so many instances, they are beyond the reach of most. Mexicans are not different than anyone else. Many are deported on a daily basis.
Why do blacks and hispanics make up less than a quarter of the population but over 2/3 of the prison pop?
I think it's partially racism, as you mentioned, but I can't use that a scapegoat because most people who are locked up did something to deserve it. I also think that it's a machismo thing. If you venture out into the slummiest ghettos of the U.S., if they're populated by mostly blacks and hispanics, everyone's trying to be "the man" on their block. Nobody messes with "the man" (who is often accompanied by a crew). "The man" will see you walking down the street wearing some nice shoes and jack you for them just because they can. Or he'll gather up some boys and do a drive-by on your house just because you were standing outside on your porch. What do these things prove? That you shouldn't be messed with. And what are his targets gonna do in response to that? They're gonna try to be "the man" by going to get themselves a glock too. And this only perpetuates the cycle of violence. This within itself isn't a by-product of being black or hispanic, however. It's mainy attributed to living in impoverished areas. The whole "I gotta get mine, you gotta get yours" mentality is the impetus for this macho intimidation crap and gang warfare. To the victor goes the spoils, and if you have the manpower to support you... you're gonna get what you want. If you've ever seen the movie "Waist Deep", it somewhat explains why things are they are in the hood. This is what it boils down to: "Money makes the world go 'round, and if you have it... I want it. And if you resist, I'll take it by force... even if it means I have to kill you." And if you combine that monetary desperateness with a lack of moral responsibility, it becomes a gateway to senseless acts of violence... like killing someone walking down the street, minding their own business. I can't answer why there aren't as many white people in prisons as blacks or hispanics, but then again... I can't answer the age-old question of why whites thought we black people were worthless and inhuman enough to enslave, persecute, humiliate and murder.
Are you joking? Name one country that even comes close to allowing the number of immigrants into the country as the USA does. Then let’s talk about green card residency and citizenships? What other country does that? Please follow up to my post by telling us all what country you are a citizen of and let’s research how generous your country is compared to the USA. We will investigate the number of permanent residents and citizens were allowed for the last few years. Then everyone can complain about why your country and its people are against letting in immigrants. Do you see where I am going with this? No one likes to be attacked without cause and the US has been the most generous with immigration in every category for decades. It is this type of rhetoric that is turning Americans against immigration because of so many now feeling entitled and demanding and leading them to feel like they are not appreciated and being taken advantage of which now unfortunately they are right about.
Why are people so harsh when it comes to mexicans????Its so messed up!!?
You know, I was going to blow this question off as being inane. Until I read some of the responses. Let me address the question along with some of the responses. I have no quarrel with Mexicans as a people. However, I resent illegal aliens, the attitude that somehow they are entitled to be here, and the Mexican government that promulgates this ideology. Further, I resent lack of respect illegals have for our laws, the drain they place on our economy, and what they are doing to our culture. The poster who stated that we are all immigrants is incorrect. If you were born in this country, you are a citizen. While we may be the children and grandchildren of immigrants; I know I am; we are NOT all immigrants so long as we were born here. This is a specious and nonsensical argument; my grandparents came here legally. Having been intimately acquainted with the immigration process, I can state with some authority that becoming a legal resident here is far from impossible. A sponsor, approximately US $1000.00, and three months or so will provide a prospective legal resident with Advance Parole and an interview date. Another thirty days will provide the Resident Alien Identification. The idea that the southwestern United States belongs either to the aboriginal Americans, or Mexico, is both factually and materially incorrect. The "Indians" who crossed the Bering Land Bridge approximately ten thousand years ago are no more owners of this territory than are the Mexicans who signed the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. They were beaten in battle, and land cession treaties signed. They are, in deed as well as fact, conquered peoples. Opinions to the contrary notwithstanding. The idea of "giving the land back" is both absurd and asinine. That being said, again, my quarrel is not with "Mexicans", but illegal aliens of ANY country. And I'm sorry to tell you this, but until and unless an individual is in my country legally, and with respect for my nation's rule of law, they are not entitled to a say in anything. I am free to be as disrespectful of their criminality as I choose. As I have been, and as I shall continue to be.
The people of Latium, Lazio in central Italy INDEED ARE the original “Latini”, which is simply the plural form of Latino. I have season answers here which reference dictionaries for the meaning of Latino, but they contain the modern nomenclature, which has lost all meaning with respect to the true Latini. So dictionary definitions are absolutely incorrect.People must study the origins of the ancient tribes of central Italy, which include the Volsci, Samniti, Latini and others. The Latini were indegenous to what was referred to as Latium, and now referred to as Lazio. Many languages derived from Latin, the closest of which were the Italic languages. Later dialects of Italic languages included what we refer to as Spanish, but even today in Latium (I am from Casalvieri in Provincia di Frosinone) Spanish remnants remain. For example, we will use “tenere” as “to have”, as opposed to its Italian meeting, which is “to hold”. “Avere” is the Florentine version of “to have” and modern Spanish uses “tenere” as the same meaning. There are many such remnants of Spanish in Lazio, because Spanish is a branch off of Italic languages. So how did people from South and Central America and Mexico take over the use of the term “Latino” or “Latina”? After all, these are largely Indian races, with some transplants from european countries, such as Italians in Argentina and Spaniards in Venezuela. So from an ethicity and race perspective, these peoples are as far from the central Italian Latini tribe as you can get.Th answer of course is that Columbus and the conquest of the Spaniards brought the Spanish language, a derivative of the Italic languages, which is a direct descendant of Latin, to the Americas. That is it, really. Over time, it has become a misnomer to identify these people as Latini (again, the plural), but it is largely accepted and unlesd you make an argument based on facts as I have done herein, there is really no need to make an issue of it.However, I do resent somewhat that people do not recognize me, and the people of central Ita,y, as Latini. That is, if you want to call Aztec Indians “Latino”, and you want us to accept that, we will gladly do so but let us not forget who the true Latini really are. When I fill out forms, such as job applications, I check off the Latino box and I should not be criticized for it, because in the end, I am a true Latino.
