If The Republicans Could Have Their Way What Would They Have Imposed Instead Of Obamacare

Do Republican citizens hate Obamacare in the same way that Republican politicians do?

I had virtually the same conversation twice this week. Both people I spoke to are hard working, seemingly intelligent and far from gullible. They were both complaining about their “Obamacare.” Premiums too high. Not covering what they needed. Hard to find a Doctor. I explained I had been on ACA for over a year. I explained how it worked for me. Picking the plan with a premium I could afford which was accepted at the medical office I liked and so forth. They then asked me how they could get information about the “ACA.”I told them ACA was Obamacare. They were dumbfounded. They didn’t believe me. They were ingesting the talking points without doing any critical thinking. What happens I believe is that if you sign up for ACA it actually takes a bit of effort on your part. Examine the plans and do the research into the coverages. People are lazy. I would bet good money a lot of people just log on and pick the first plan they see. Or just pick a plan from an insurer they had in the past without checking if it suits them. One woman told me she was paying $1100.00 per month premium for just herself. She is healthy and sees a Doctor twice per year for a physical. She’s 60 years old and retired. Being polite I didn’t ask her if she picked the most expensive plan she could. I have no doubt she COULD spend less. Probably too much effort.

List of Pros and Cons for the Individual Mandate of Obamacare.?

The 2014 individual mandate means everyone must be insured (not that you have to buy insurance) by whatever means you choose including being covered by a spouse, parent, employer, or buying it from the new exchanges. The fine wont take place if you are so low income you dont file a tax return and the IRS cannot impose a tax penalty, but you didnt mention the tax credit you get which subsidizes your cost. If you are very low income you may be eligible for Medicaid if you meet other criteria.

You are wrong about federal power. The states have authority over health insurance through a state Insurance Commission. However, each state is mandated by federal law to make insurance available through the exchange. The federal government has the power to regulate economic activity and that is the basis for the insurance mandate. If each state were able to subsidize health care for its residents, the federal government wouldnt have to do it.

What is "OBAMACARE"? ?

Obamacare is the name the republicans use instead of the actual name of the health care reform laws, Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) and Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010.

People despise it because of a number of factors.... mainly :
1. They don't know what it does.
2. They think it costs money.
3. They have been told that it does things that it doesn't do.
4. They think it is unconstitutional(because they don't know what it does and don't understand the existing legal precedence).

The law does lots of things(see wiki links below and library of congress for text) covering some 2000+ pages, so I can't really describe them here.

It does not create socialized medicine. The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office(CBO) says the law will save the country money over the next decade(not cost money). It does impose a tax penalty if you don't have health insurance(You don't have to have it, you just have to pay a penalty at tax time if you don't have health insurance). It also adjusts the health insurance policy standards(ie parents can cover children longer and you can't be rejected because you have a pre-existing condition). It doesn't create any sort of death panel that decides when you will die. It does allow doctors who talk to you about end of life care to charge the time to the insurance. It does not create a national insurance program, so you don't have to worry about doctors not accepting it.

I personally think its a good thing for society, but I don't think the federal government is the right place to do it.

What do you think of the idea that the Republicans don't really want their healthcare legislation to pass?

Last person to touch a problem is the one who is going to get blamed for it.Republicans really don’t want this problem. No matter what they do someone is going to be unhappy with them:Their base will be livid with them if they take away their healthcareTheir base will also be livid if they don’t get rid of Obamacare like they promisedInsurance companies will be livid if they impose all the great new rules (can’t discriminate against people with pre-existing solutions) while getting rid of all the new customers (nixing the individual mandate)Everyone will be livid if they blow up the deficit with - they’re already trying to delegitimize the Congressional Budget Office which is definitely going to show that their solutions are extremely expensiveSo, their best bet is to find a way for the Democrats to block them so that they can blame the inaction on the Democrats.Or to poison any new legislation so that the Democrats are likely to be left holding the ball if they ever retake the presidency.Crazy thing is that they’re in a unique position to do some real good here. And they just won’t do it.Trump can demand Medicare expansion to everyone.Looks almost like single-payer. That would bring a lot of liberals around. Trump’s people have stuck with him through the sexual assault allegations, him fighting with Gold Star parents, Russian interference, not releasing tax returns, bragging about the size of his pecker in a nationally televised debate…If Trump said single payer is the way to go, his people would back him. Liberals would back him. He’d be able to repeal, not only Obamacare but Planned Parenthood - two things his base desperately wants. It would also fulfill his promise to cover everyone in the country. And this would be one of the very few times his claim that he’s “The only one who can do it” would actually be true. He’d never do anything that rational, unfortunately. So, instead of something bold that actually fixes a problem, expect some sleight of hand which changes very little and seeks to lay the blame on the Democrats.Or, in other words, business as usual.

Why is the GOP campaigning on repealing Obama policies so they can enact Obama policies?

The Republicans unveiled their new agenda for governing if they take control of the legislature, and among the things they would like to do is repeal what is popularly known as "Obamacare" and replace it with several Republican health care reforms.

You can find a summary of their ideas listed on their website here:

http://gopleader.gov/UploadedFiles/Summa...

Okay, so here's the thing... that's Obamacare.

"Allowing Americans to buy insurance across state lines..." is a summary of section 1333 of the bill they voted against.

"Encouraging Small Business Health Plans..." is part of section 1312.

"Promoting healthier lifestyles..." is something Republican politicians, pundits, and candidates such as Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, and Christine O'Donnell have all been attacking Michelle Obama for promoting. Why is it tyranny when she does it but just common sense when they want to do the exact same thing?

"Establishing Universal Access Programs to guarantee access to affordable health care for those with pre-existing conditions..." Republicans fought anything like this tooth and nail when Democrats proposed it, but pre-existing condition protections went into effect today.

"Prevents insurers from unjustly cancelling a policy..." went into effect today.

"Allowing dependents to remain on their parents’ policies..." the Republicans say through age 25 and the current law says up to age 26, but it's the same thing at the end of the day. Oh yes, and it also went into effect today.

So apparently Barack Obama isn't so much a Republican as he is what they aspire to be.

Seriously, is "we want to repeal everything the Democrats have done so we can waste legislative time passing the same laws" the best the Republicans can come up with?

Couldn't we just save some time, cut out the middle-man on that process, and move onto something new?

Obamacare pros and cons? Why is it 'unconstitutional" in some people's eyes?

It violates the 10th Amendment of the US Constitution and that's just for starters, when put into effect it also violates the 4th Amendment because of privacy laws.

PROS: People will have some semblance of healthcare but they have to pay for it
CONS: People will have healthcare but the QUALITY of that healthcare is DEBATABLE
Government can fine people for not having this
Obama, Pelosi and the rest on capitol hill are EXEMPT from this plan which will clearly have
LESS QUALITY than their healthcare plans
Government can fine insurance companies for not issuing this
When government fines and regulates insurance companies, the costs INCREASE
When COSTS increase for insurance, costs for PRESCRIPTIONS and MEDICINE increase
Government can now dictate to individual what kind of health insurance they can have
Government can now regulate doctors and hospitals closer, thus interfering with practices
This is just a step for government taking away more of individual CHOICE, thus RIGHTS and
opens the door to more REGULATION for all RESOURCES like food, water etc.
It's SOCIALIZED MEDICINE and it doesn't belong in a CONSTITUTIONAL REPUBLIC, still
relative DEMOCRACY that is the USA
The MONEY will come out of SOCIAL SECURITY

Why do people hate Obamacare?

Reason No. 1: They don't understand it.
Reason No. 2: The right cares only about their own interests, not those who don't have access to health care or are screwed by insurance companies.
Reason No. 3: They hate anything Obama is for.
