If Women Want Equal Rights Why Dont They Also Want The Responsibilities

Why do some women want equal rights except for when it comes to splitting the check and then they throw that out of the window?

One day, presumably you plan on being married. And let's say you have a daughter. Do you feel that she should grow up and belong to the man she marries? Do you feel that her future husband should be allowed to rape her if he wants sex? Do you believe that your daughter, the baby you held in your hands and raised, should be paid less for the same work as a boy, be unsafe on the streets and be sexually harassed and abused by men just like you who think the cost of a dinner has some great worth in the universe? If splitting a check is the absolute most important thing you can think of when thinking about equality, then I hope you are merely very young, because this is an extremely limited and immature way of thinking about women's equality.

Should men and women have equal parental rights and responsibilities?

It's a tricky question...it's not so black and white - there is alot of gray area. Especially when you consider the fact that legally a women has the right to abort with or without the fathers consent - so that means even if the guy wants the baby legally the women has more right than he does. So, I think that probably has alot to do with parental obligations, etc. I think that for the most part at least the financial reponsibility that is place on the guy gives the female some help...I mean can you really force anyone to be a parent? Even if the women has the baby she can still decide to give it up for adoption...it's just not so black and white...at the end of the day you can't force anyone to be a parent...but legally you can hold someone financially responsible...at least women do have that. The act of becoming pregnant and being a parent is pretty complicated both legally, morally and ethically.

Do women want true equality or equality only when it benefits them?

Actually NOW, (THE feminist organization) supports women being included in selective service.
Men can choose not to work...there are no laws requiring it. But if you mean being "stay-at-home dads"...men can do this, too, and ARE doing it ever more frequently. (And you can thank the feminist movement for that. If women didn't have the opportunities they have today, men would not have that option.)
"Women want to be able to sleep around..." actually, women just want to not have such a stigma attached to them if they DO. As for not wanting the "pressure"...do YOU "want" it? And women suffer from other gender based pressures...feminists would be happy if ALL of these gender biases were removed, for BOTH sexes.
"Women don't "expect" to be prosecuted..." This is false. Women don't "expect" NOT to be prosecuted to the same extent, it is our culture that sees women as the weaker sex, and men as more dominant (leftovers of patriarchy) and therefore does not take violence against men at the hands of women as seriously.
So, yes FEMINISTS, at least, want "true equality," and once the gender biases that harm (and sometimes benefit) BOTH sexes are done away with, then we can HAVE true equality.
