If You Are Not Hungry Should You Eat Anyways

Should you eat when you're not hungry?

This is really a question for your doctor. Given the description you provided, you sound somewhat similar to me. I can go all day and not really ever get hungry. This doesn't mean I don't like to eat. On the contrary, eating is probably one of my favorite past times. But when I get caught up working on something or even if I'm just sitting around the house, I've unintentionally skipped all of my days meals before. Usually I'll get a little bit peckish at night and eat a late dinner, that being my only meal for the day. On one of my most recent doctor appointments, I was told I was underweight and should eat more. (Sincere apologies to anyone struggling with weight loss, as this was the best news I'd ever gotten from my doctor). To make a long story short, I did. I try to eat at least two square meals a day now, and though I sometimes still miss a lunch or two, my diet is much more reasonable these days. But yeah, I still hardly ever feel hungry. I've done some searching on this phenomena in the past, and have found very little conclusive information. I do know that I have a fast metabolism, which only really adds to the mystery as to why I don't feel hunger. If any other doctors on Quora have information on this, I'd love to hear it.The other answers provided so far are very much true when you're dealing with the average person who feels hunger at regular intervals. Eating when you're not hungry for this type of person will likely lead to unwanted weight gain. But if you're at all like me, just ask yourself: "Have I eaten enough today?" If it's 6:00 in the evening and you haven't eaten yet, you probably should eat regardless of whether you feel hungry or not.

Why Do I Eat When I'm Not Hungry?

When I get home from school, I'm never hungry, but I always eat a snack anyways. And it seems like the only meal I'm ever really hungry for is lunch because I eat breakfast at 6:00 am and I don't get to eat lunch until 12:30 because of school. I am afraid that if I keep eating when I'm not hungry, I'll gain weight. Why do I do this?

I'm not hungry.. should I still eat dinner?

Don't Eat If You're Not Hungry. Drink Tea Or Have Some Ice Cold Water And Chill Until You Sleep.

If I don't feel hungry at "meal time," should I eat anyway?

There is no magic behind three meals per day. That was mostly an accommodation for factory workers when industrialization kicked in. Feel free to just eat when you’re hungry.Note that if you have sleep problems (insomnia) it’s recommended to stick to a schedule. But you can pick it. The schedule doesn’t matter as long as it’s pretty consistent. Otherwise, feel free to just eat whenever.

I haven't ate in 24 hours and I'm not hungry?

All I can say is.....eat when you feel hungry and don't eat if ur not hungry (but now I'm hungry)

I haven't eaten in 24 hours and I'm not hungry at all?

I get this as well, more often than I would like. It is a borderline eating disorder, I think. (well, if you are 'purging' 2x a week, that's an indication of more than a borderline eating disorder). It's like there is a 'disconnect' where my brain doesn't get the "I'm hungry" thought-pattern. I've been known to go a day, or even two days, without eating anything (and not feeling hungry). Then when I do try to eat (because I'm all shaky since my body has no energy), my empty stomach will reject it, not to mention that at those times I tend to find food unappealing. (In my case, it may be due to the fact that I worked in the food service industry for most of my working life. I enjoy cooking new recipes ... but at other times food is just unappealing to me ... even though I have a lot of it in my pantry and fridge and freezer.)

Yes, you should eat anyway. This is what I mentally describe to myself as "This is *not* an 'if I feel like it' scenario ... this is a *must do* scenario."

One of my 'saviors' has been a dairy product, some yogurt smoothie type thing that has lots of calories, protein, and carbohydrates, plus lots of vitamins and minerals. 300 calories and 20 grams of protein in a strawberry or chocolate shake type of thing. Gulp that down even if you're not feeling hungry and your body will be happy. (Not high in fat either; made by Lucerne if that's available in your area. Something called 'Protein Plus', although I'm not trying to advertise it. I'm just saying it's a good product.)

Is it ok to skip meals when you are not hungry?

Yes.Unless you have a condition that prevents you from feeling hunger, it’s fine to wait until you are hungry to eat. When we eat just because it's mealtime, we lose touch with our body’s natural cues—hunger and satiety—to let us know when to eat, and when we’ve had enough. This can lead to overeating.I struggled with my weight as a young adult. Not-hungry eating was a huge contributor to my weight issues. If you only eat when you are hungry, and stop when the hunger is satisfied (not when you are full) you will likely eat less at each meal, but eat more frequently. Eating several smaller meals vs just a few large ones is better for the metabolism.Obviously, there will be times when you will have to deviate from this. A wedding, lunch meeting at work, dinner party, etc. But in general, it's best to wait until you are hungry to eat.
