How can a person turn into a paedophile? How does their mind work? I'm overly scared people can have that wild thought.
Usually someone becomes a pedophile (or is sexual attracted to children) because of trauma and/or sexual experiences during childhood. I couldn't tell you the specifics of how this happens, but something triggers the brain to develop an abnormal sexual preference. It's similar to developing an attraction to the same sex, or a kink like feet or latex.Otherwise, their minds work just like everyone else's. They have empathy just like you. Not all pedophiles are child molesters (the difference being having the attraction and acting on it in an inappropriate way). Most will live out their lives without ever having any sexual interaction with children. Unfortunately, there are always some bad eggs.I try to learn as much about this disorder as possible, because I am unlucky enough to be afflicted by it. Hence anonymity.Frankly, it's scary typing this, even with anonymity. Pedophiles are easily amongst the most hated groups in the world. The death threats are common and fairly sincere. Some of the most self-proclaimed open-minded individuals will easily turn around and tell a pedophile that they deserve nothing less than imprisonment, torture and death, or that they should kill themselves.This is not something I had any say in. I did not choose to be attracted to children.I share this because I hope you can see that as nasty as “pedophile” sounds, there is a human being behind that label. We are people too.I also want to make this crystal clear: I do not condone sexual interactions with children. The very reason I am attracted to children is because of sexual abuse when I was a child. I now suffer from a long list of other mental health disorders that make life challenging. This is not something I would wish on my worst enemy, never mind an innocent child.
