If You Give A Dog Pumpkin For Constipation How Long Before It Works

How long does it take for pumpkin to work for constipated cats?

I was told by my vet that pumpkin is great for both diarrhea and constipation. My cats loved it. I can't tell you about a time frame for constipation but for diarrhea it was pretty immediate.

I just wanted to get my two cents in since several people are advising you against it.

Is canned pumpkin good for treating a dog's constipation?

Yes, if you can find it off season and if your dog will eat it.Make sure it's canned pumpkin, not pumpkin pie filling. The latter is sugar laden garbage. I wouldn't feed that to, well, a dog. This new little guy? I keep a few cans around for when my usual standby, roasted sweet potatoes, (which btw taste a hell of a lot better than canned pumpkin ), just don't do the trick. This guy is a recent rescue. Someone is in jail, prison actually, for coming damn close to starving him to death. They did starve to death his mother and brother. I am ever grateful they were selling meth when the cops showed up to ask about the dead and dying dogs. No dogs for them for 10–12 years, and we got an animal cruelty conviction, thank you very much.Guess what he won't eat?Pumpkin. Not even mixed with beef or cat food. This little guy just graduated to a stool softener. Under a vets supervision, of course. One, single weight titrated dose ought to work.Don't rely on tricks to reset your dogs bowel movements. Feed Whole Foods, or at least add some lightly cooked spinach, carrots, beets, etc to their food every day. My other three never have gi problems anymore. This guys just new and adjusting. And that's s my leg he's laying on. A first. He's had some aggression issues with women, even me, who feeds him, but look at that. The best part of rescuing, hell, of dogs in general is their infinite ability to forgive, to trust humans again when every experience in their life is screaming against it…they fall asleep on my leg. Wow.

What can I give my dog for constipation? I read that pumpkin is good, like Libby’s canned pumpkin or something else.

First, you must have your dog examined to rule out a medical problem. Many episodes of constipation are related to cancer, not eating (what doesn’t go in won’t come out), or other maladies. Once a veterinarian has examined your dog and done necessary imaging, you can then discuss treatment for constipation, assuming exam and imaging are normal. Yes, canned pumpkin can be used. Don’t use pie filling, just canned pumpkin. Best of luck.

Can I give baby food to my constipated dog?

My dog (Dachshund Mix) was spayed on Friday, and she has been constipated since. She has only pooped once on Sunday and once yesterday. I think she's constipated because she only went very little. She went the size on 3 little M&Ms on both days, and today she hasn't gone at all. I called her vet and asked what I can give her and they said to give her canned pumpkin with no added flavors.

Is baby food, like pumpkin Gerber, okay to give her? `

What can I give my cat for constipation, a symptom of his kidney disease? My vet said Miralax, which does work. But I don't like that, it's plastic molecules. Will cats eat pumpkin as dogs will?

First of all you need to examine your cat’s diet. Is your cat on dry exclusively? Some things are more easily solved.Dry food can lead to urinary tract infections because of how dry the insides become. Because they don’t seem to be able to obtain enough hydration from water drinking alone.i read multiple articles and own a cat, the articles talk about how cats are predators and usually eat meat which contain a large amount of liquid. In my opinion this makes a lot of sense.so i feed my own cat wet food regularly and she seems to poop much more easily on this diet.a quick search yields that cat SEEM to be able to eat pumpkin for laxative effect, but make sure they are able to eat whatever human food you are giving them.Another thing about the urinary tract infections from dry food. I did research before getting a cat. The dry food exclusive diet can lead to the formation of urinary tract crystals causing immense pain and constipation for cats.

Can I give my dog a suppository for constipation?

Due respect and all, but I would propose you shouldn't even try - unless, of course, there are a number of burly people at hand to hold the dog down. And even then, all involved need to remember that dogs DO have a memory!

What works for constipated dogs/puppy?

If it is acute and only one time but not a chronic condition, add paraffin oil to the food. You should find a special paraffin oil for pets with a taste of meat. It goes through the digestive system unabsorbed and does not have any side effects. The only thing to make sure is, that your dog is not vomiting and does not have a fremd material stuck in the guts.Otherwise food, that has a lot of fibre like pumpkin, carrots, oats, can be helpful. Feed in small amounts, reduced portion, spend a lot of time doing physical exercise.Dogo - the mobile app that helps you train your dog at home.App store or Google Play Store

How long does it normally take a dog after eating pumpkin to go poo?

It depends on the dog. Did you give the pumpkin because of diarrhea?

Pumpkin is used to help make the stool firmer!

And did you give pumpkin and not pumpkin pie filling?

ETA: I just read your other questions. Your dog should have been to the vet yesterday.
Feeding him pumpkin is most likely not gonna help if he has a blockage and the longer you let this go the more damage is going to be done. Parts of the intestinal track can die off etc.

Take him to another vet also I would not be to pleased with a vet that said feed pumpkin and see if that works without explaining to you that after two days your dogs live could be in danger. Was the vet aware that he ate the couch two days ago?

Pumpkin it typically used for diarrhea. Sometimes it works as a laxative.

Is your dog having any other symptoms lethargy, lack of appetite, vomiting? If so go to the ER vet now

ETA #2 Okay I was thinking your vet did not know. It was worth a try and not all dogs are the same. Your is just a pup the other lab was probably a full grown adult that got lucky.

Glad you are going into the vet. With him not eating, no poo that is a cause for concern.
Hope all turns out well for you and your pup!

What supplements can I give to my cat that is prone to constipation (and how much, and how frequently)?

From easiest to more complicated …. Feed canned food as it is 50% water and will keep stools from being firm …. Feed a food that is higher in fiber such as a senior diet or a prescription diet as Hills W/D …… use a product such as Catlax or Laxatone on a weekly or biweekly basis …. Use an over the counter stool softener such as Colace when needed …. If the problem is chronic and severe discuss keeping a laxitive drug such as Lactulose on hand ……. For all the answers suggesting pumpkin … first I have yet to see a cat that enjoys eating pumpkin and secondly pumpkin works somewhat as a fiber source to help with diarrhea but in my opinion does little to relieve constipation … and that’s in dogs not cats
