If You Got To Add 10 Amendments

What would you add to the Constitution Amendments if you could?

Make English the official language.

If you could add or remove an amendment what would it be? And why?

I would add some heft to the Ninth Amendment, which has been something of a constitutional wild card since its inception. It protects other unenumerated rights not specified in the Constitution; this means there are additional fundamental rights the people possess on top of those that already exist. The Ninth Amendment generally has a bad rap in constitutional law, and thus judges have circumscribed its applicability, although there are exceptions, the expansion of a privacy right in Griswold demonstrates its innate potential. As far as repealing Amendments, by far the most antiquated is the Third Amendment, about quartering soldiers during wartime; hopefully we will never have to use that one. Personally, I dislike the Twelfth Amendment most, which sets out the way in which the President and Vice-President are elected, namely through the Electoral College. I would much prefer a popular vote. So, I would remove the Twelfth before the Third, just in case.

What are the pros and cons of Amendment 3?

Few would argue that the US, in a mere 200 years, has gone from a bunch of rabble upset with a distant Monarchy to the most powerful and 'free' nation in the world; so quit fiddling with things. It isn't perfect, but it's better than anywhere else. Lets 'freeze' the law for the next ten years and see what happens... If things get better, we'll review, if they get worse, we'll reinstate lawmakers ability to 'tweak' things.

What would be some good amendments to add to the US Bill of rights?

the Federal Government of the United States is prohibited from engaging in Transfer Payments; all expenditures of the government shall be in expectation of direct return of value (i.e. goods or services) for money.the government may not, without a warrant as specified in the Fourth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, purchase or otherwise obtain information about American Citizens from any non-government entities. Domestic electronic surveillance of any kind without a warrant (issued through onerous Due Process) is prohibited.make explicit the right to Privacy embodied in (but (according to Justice Antonin Scalia) missing from the text of) the Fourth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

If you could only keep 5 amendments on the Bill of Rights, what would you keep?

If I absolutely must pick five of the ten I would have to pick the First, Second, Fourth, Ninth, and Tenth. The first, second, and fourth, are so integral to the preservation of liberty that they absolutely must be retained in the event the government decides to repeal or rollback other legal protections and become more tyrannical. The first ensures that people can be informed of the government's abuses and people can gather and protest their grievances. The second ensures that the protesters have some means of defense if the government goes as far as to conduct a Tiananmen Square style massacre of protesters or abduction of dissenting figures. The second also ensures that the people have the resources to stage a revolution if necessary. The fourth is supposed to prevent less overt oppression than just described by prohibiting the police from conducting frivolous home invasions without any oversight. The ninth and tenth exist on the assumption that the government will honor the rules they are bound by and remain limited. This is the ideal scenario however countless people from all over the world have experienced governments that either overstepped their boundd or had none to begin with.

What amendment would you add to the Constitution? Why?

I would propose an Amendment to the Constitution that would provide representation for the people of the District of Columbia in the Congress.
