If you had to name 5 siblings after gemstones (etc.)...?
If you had to name a sibling set of 5 after gemstones, jewels and minerals, which of these would you pick? The sibling set is of 3 boys and 2 girls. Names for boys: Jasper, Flint, Bronze, copper, Garnet, Jet, Quartz, Silver. Names for girls: Amber, Amethyst, Crystal, Emerald, Jade, Agate, Opal, Pearl, Ruby, Sapphire, Topaz, Turquoise. Names i consider unisex: Obsidian, Onyx, I asked a similar question with colors instead of gemstones.

What beautiful babies!! For litter theme there are a lot of fun things you can choose from! Here are some of my favorites: -Food (once knew three puppies named Bacon,Chocolate, & Banana! Lol) -Characters in a movie -Book Characters (I had a friend who got her dog from a breeder who had the litter theme be Harry Potter, it was amazing!;) -Places (London, Paris, Houston, Boston, ect.) -Colors -One of my favorite themes was a little named after olympic gold medalists (which could definitely work for border collie pups) -TV characters -Cars (Ford, chevy ect. or Mercedes, Mustang...) -Greek gods And here are some B names that might work as well- (: Boy names: Benson, Brody, Buck, Brayden, Bennett Girl names: Beth and Breezy

How do show dogs get their names?
Vet Tech has the basics down-- Then you add the breeder who asks for a certain theme (song titles, gem stones, rocks, or in the case of my last litter born New Year's Eve '06.. celebrations) and you have more to go on. I'm fond of song titles. I have a friend who likes rocks and gemstones. I bought a dog from her and by the time I fit in her kennel name and my kennel name all that was left for space was the gem - Emerald... and I call him Rico. Some breeders like their kennel name and something to do with the sire or the dam. Jade has litters named after Emerald and Citrine (both gemstones). This makes it easy for those "in the know" to track which litter a dog is from. Edit: I guess someone forgot to tell all the Samoyed show people as well as the Bernese people that they couldn't put both kennel names on their pups (or maybe Sam & Berner people just work together better than some other breeds) and that we had to register our pups and not let the owners do it....... I guess I've just learned that all Sam and Berner breeders must not be good breeders. Yeah us! (I'm going to get a kick out of the responses I get when I quote that comment on some email lists).

Turkish name meaning and pronunciation?
I disagree with the previous answer as to the pronunciation. It is pronounced "gem" as in gemstone. The meaning is "ruler", "monarch", "sovereign" etc.
