If You Listen To The Quran And Follow With The Quran Book Is It Counted Like You Read It

Can I read the English version of the Holy Quran and get the same reward of reading the Arabic version?

Many of the answers to this question reflect a confused understanding of the message of the Quran.Let me explain a little bit.First of all let us understand the purpose of the endeavors of a Muslim. The purpose is to get closer to God.By reciting Quran (in whatever manner or in whatever language) has no significance what so ever. Except for one significance. How much closer does it bring you to God?How do you become close to God?It is not by the count of words from the Quran that you recite. It is not by the language in which you explore the meanings of the Quran. The Arabs have no superiority over non Arabs and vice versa. There is no preference with respect to the language. Arabs are the same as the Germans. It is not how many times you recite a word. There is nothing having a significance of a Mantra. You recite a word, and you contemplate its meaning in Arabic or German, and you do so once or a thousand times. All that is without significance. What is of significance is how much closer you get to God?And what is the metric for measuring closeness to God. Quran itself tells you that: INDEED THE CLOSEST TO GOD IS THE ONE WITH THE GREATEST PIETY IN HIS/HER LIFE.So study Quran. Get guidance from it. Enhance your piety. Get closer and closer to God.In the ultimate analysis, if you recite Quran in Arabic or you do all the Islamic rituals; nothing has any value; except in proportionality to what role it plays in enhancing your piety and the consequent closeness to God.Everything else is totally irrelevant.

Is it still a good deed to read quran in english or is only arabic counted?

Assalamu Alaikum
Thank you for asking a very good question.

The answer is, No, it would not be the same. However, there is still a chance for great rewards with Allah and there are some things you can do as well, Insha' Allah.

Reading from books in other languages is not the same as reading in Arabic. However, there is still reward for you, Insha' Allah.

Difficulty in reciting the Arabic is rewarded double for the one who is not an Arab speaker.

You can rise up early every morning before fajr and begin to recite a little at a time, step by step while you are learning. Make sure to continue this from now on, as this was definitely a part of the sunnah of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him.

Take your time and be patient with yourself. It takes time, effort and practice to become a real reciter of Quran.

There is a dua (supplication) in the Quran for gaining knowledge and we always suggest it to those who want to gain more knowledge. We have to understand all knowledge only comes from Allah.

"Rabbi, ziddni 'ilma. Rabbi, ziddni 'ilma." (My Lord, increase my knowledge. My Lord, increase my knowledge."

Can I read the Quran in English rather than reading it in Arabic? Do we have any commandments in the Quran that we should read and spell it only in Arabic?

I’d like to say some point about this matter:we’d like to state that you are to be commended for your keen desire to read and understand Allah’s Word. You should know that there is no nobler endeavor than that. The Prophet (pbuh) said, “Those who attempt to read it with difficulty will merit double rewards.” (Reported by at-Tirmidhi and Abu Dawud; also Bukhari and Muslim in their own words)  Also, we advise you, to try to read the Qur’an in Arabic to gain the great benefit and reward of Allah for reading His Book, and read the translation of the Qur’an to grasp its meaning.  As the Qur’an is revealed in Arabic, reading it in its original language entails great merits. The Prophet (pbuh) said: “Whoever reads one letter of the Book of Allah, will have one reward for doing so, and every hasanah will be multiplied by 10. I do not say that Alif, Lam, Mim is one letter, but Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter and Mim is a letter.”   “The reward mentioned in this Hadith is only for the one who reads the Qur’an as it is in Arabic, not for the one who reads the translation of the meanings in any other language. However, if a person reads a translation of the meanings in order to understand the meaning and benefit from what the Qur’anic verses are saying, then he will be rewarded for doing this, because the Muslim will be rewarded for reading tafsir (explanation and commentary of the Qur’an), and a translation is tafsir. But there is no indication that the person who reads a translation will earn the reward mentioned in the Hadith. The bounty of Allah is immense.”

From a Quranists point of view, how would u interpret these ayat? Do Quranists have different interpretations?

He who obeys the Messenger, obeys Allah: But if any turn away, We have not sent thee to watch over their (evil deeds). (The Noble Qur'an 4:80)

115. If anyone contends with the Messenger even after guidance has been plainly conveyed to him, and follows a path other than that becoming to men of Faith, We shall leave him in the path he has chosen, and land him in Hell,- what an evil refuge! (Surah 4. An-Nisa')

O ye who believe! Obey Allah, and obey the Messenger, and those charged with authority among you. If ye differ in anything among yourselves, refer it to Allah and His Messenger, if ye do believe in Allah and the Last Day: That is best, and most suitable for final determination. 004.059

And whoever obeys Allah and the Messenger, these are with those upon whom Allah has bestowed favors from among the prophets and the truthful and the martyrs and the good, and a goodly company are they! 004.069

91. When it is said to them, "Believe in what Allah Hath sent down, "they say, "We believe in what was sent down to us:" yet they reject all besides, even if it be Truth confirming what is with them. Say: "Why then have ye slain the prophets of Allah in times gone by, if ye did indeed believe?" Surah 2. Al-Baqara
