I m filling a job application form and under references, they ask for "office use check (initial/date)". what does this mean?
When they check your references they will initial and date the form to show that it was done. This is not for you.
Is it legal to postdate a contract?
Changing the dates on a contract are legal. Post date refers to a time the contract starts which is after the time it was signed. Which is obviously normal and legal. Pre dating means that the parties are bound to the conditions of the contract at a date that is prior to the signing. This is legal because obviously both parties already know the situation. Pre dating occurs because an informal arrangement has begun but no written agreement has started. For example if you have a job you might start working but the senior manager is away and can't sign the contract. When they return they sign the contract to cover the days you have already worked. Remember this would have implications for leave and other benefits. So yeah, the date the contract has signed doesn't have to the be the same date it starts. However, if you are worried when you sign write "signed on ...and the date"

However if you have worked across 15 organizations and now attending the interview for the Head of sales, the first company where you have started the career as a trainee may not be that much relevant and in many cases, doesn’t get that much attention. When a candidate project experience with min 6 months, ideally, accurate date of joining and exit should be provided to verification agency. Compensation data is also critical for the entire tenure.If there are major mismatches in experience history and if the candidate fails to rectify the same with substantial evidences, chances are there to fail in the employment verification process.

As others have said, put whatever date you’re actually available.To take it a step further, I’ve only ever seen an application seriously referenced when discrepancies have come up elsewhere or the resume or background check need to be cross-referenced to the application to clarify something. Outside of the few extremely rigid processes like government agencies, your resume is what really matters.(This is assuming that you’re honest on any resume / application / verifications that you submit; however, if integrity is a question then any source would likely be cross-referenced.)
