If You Wanted To Retire Would You Let Your Customers Saying No Effect Your Choice

Do you retired police officers lose their police powers after they retire?

1. Can a retired police officer still make arrests and issue citations or whatever? Or does a retired police officer just convert back to a normal civilian like the rest of us.

2. Say if a cop is out to dinner with his friends or family. When a cop is off duty it just means they are off the clock. The fact that they are cop is always in effect obviously. Off duty just means they are not being paid the way I see it. If the cop sees someone robbing the police, is he required to act? Would it be against the law if he failed to act?

3. If a cop is driving his car home from dinner in his personal car and sees someone commit a traffic violation, assuming he does not have a police radio equipped in his car, is he required to call his police station and request they send a marked unit out to conduct the stop?

4. If an off duty cop sees someone commit a violation and he calls his police station to request a marked unit, will they usually send a marked unit out there even though the marked unit will not have witnessed it. Will the off duty officer act as the “witnessed” officer if it goes to traffic court?

5. On a speeding ticket or a traffic ticket, is there a spot for a witness officer to sign and the actual officer who wrote the ticket to sign?

6. Can off duty cops carry spare tickets in their personal cars?

7. are off duty cops required to carry their badge and firearm at all times like on days they don’t have to work? What if they go on vacation? Do they have to carry handcuffs too while off duty?

8. Most of the time when a cop is responding to a call they do not have to use their siren or lights unless they are going to speed to get there. Besides the common fact that they can speed whenever they want, are they “supposed” to use their lights and/or siren when they are going to speed and cut through red lights? Even if the sped and cut through red lights safely, shouldn’t the emergency lights be on? I know they aer experienced drivers, but so are race car drivers. Please explain.

9. I saw a cop activate his spotlight during the day time!!! when the sun was shinning when he stopped a car. I know they activate the spot lights at night but why activate it when the sun is shinning? The light doesn’t serve no real purpose from what I can observe?

What are your thoughts on buying a new car just before retirement?

I bought a late model used car with low mileage. It still does not have much mileage. I think this is much better way to go, you tend to drive less and do not need something brand new, I did not. I bought my car from Hertz, great price and in great condition.

Why do many retirees say they are bored (not that they need money) and want to go back to paid work instead of considering volunteer / charity work?

What I have found is that when retirement savings itself are not at issue (the individual or couple has enough to live comfortably through retirement), the matter becomes one of self-esteem, giving back, and feeling useful. The best way this can be done is to give through sharing their unique experience. I don’t agree that they necessarily need paid work instead of unpaid work, it is just that meaning for that person may come from structured work environments where they can mentor younger people interested in their field.A couple of other thoughts is that often people do need the working capital, since they did not save enough, or hold traditional pensions. They may not be sharing their financial situation. In addition, many people do find meaning in finding their own way to share experience, such as setting up a blog or society on their own. If you are a retired person looking to give back your knowledge, find a hosting site that will set this up for you. There are many, including www.BlueForestHosting.com (let them know what you are doing and ask for low or no cost web hosting. Good luck!

Does the SSA (Social Security Administration) require an appointment when I want to ask about my retirement benefits? Can I just walk in?

First, let me say that SSA employees are NOT “order takers”. Yes, you will be presented with all available options. That's our job. (Even though I'm retired, I still consider myself part of the SSA family). The Claims Representative/Social Insurance Specialist cannot make your decision for you. That's obvious. It's a free country - at least for now. :). However, they will guide you and do the math to show you gains and losses depending on the choice you make. If you choose something that is clearly not in your best financial interest causing you to lose money in the long term, and we can't change your mind, we must have you sign a statement that you are aware of the adverse effects.Whew. Sorry. Had to get that off my chest. Now, back to the question at hand.Yes, you can simply walk in. However, depending on the day, and how busy the office is, you will likely have a wait and should be prepared for that. Please be aware though that most things these days can be handled online or by phone. If you would like to minimize your wait, call for an appointment , but be prepared to wait 2–3 weeks for one, especially in large urban areas. You will always be taken care of however you decide to seek the services. If you walk in, avoid Mondays, days immediately after holidays, and the first week of the month.Hope this helps! I didn't mean to write a book, but I spent 38 years with the agency, all of it in a Field Office on the front lines. I strongly feel that the overwhelming majority of SSA employees take pride in serving their country every day. We just do it with pen, paper, and computers instead of weapons.

My girlfriend's pregnant, I have a full time job. Thinking to go active army, is this the right choice?

Hi, I am 19 years old I work full time right now and am done with school for now. I still want to go to college though. I know the military has a lot of benefits for enlisting and being active or retired some are G.I. Bill or Deers. My question is, I have a girlfriend who is pregnant with my child. She's due in July, I already took the ASVAB and have a passing score, I was wondering what would be the best way to go about joining the military.. It has always been part of my plan as a child. I love my girlfriend very much and she loves me, we're happy together and get along so great. I'm not too sure on how the Army will look at my situation with having a girlfriend and baby when enlisting, I am not doing this for the benefits, but they will help my soon to be family out, as well as working in the Army I will be able to afford my 4+ year college degree, heck I may pursue a career within the military. I am curious as to what you all may recommend to me.

Should I get married before enlisting?
Should I not get married? How will this affect me and my family?
Is there anything you recommend I look into or know before enlisting?

Do you think it's possible to have a strong relationship even when you're active army?

If we get married, will she ever get the opportunity to live with me while I serve in the military if I am truly dedicated?

How would this affect her and the new baby?

Please everyone who feels they can contribute to my questions will be heard, I'm really interested in what you all have to say.

I am very serious about enlisting, I am already highly disciplined.

Do police officers make good parents?

calisto gave you a good answer! I have ben in the job for close to 40 years, and raised to fine children. One is in the military, the other is married to a professional, and also runs a business. I have lots of nice grand children too. You can't say that police officers make good or bad parents as a generalization. Do surgeons? They work very stressful jobs with long hours/. How about firemen?
Believe me, it is very difficult to be a police officer and maintain any relationships. The hours and shifts are the worst part. Overtime is the second worse part. And seeing all of the evil there is out there makes things tough too. But lots of us have done.

Police officers work good jobs, have already been passed through extensive background investigations, have developed problem solving skills and make decent money. Great people for an adopted.
