Im 14 But When I Sing I Sound Like Im In My 20s Is That Bad

What is a good song for a girl auditioning for The Sound of Music?

My sister and I are both going to audition for The Sound of Music (separately) but we don't know what to sing. I am 14 and she is 11. Do you have any suggestions? We are both in the soprano and alto range.

When I sing, why does my voice sound so young?

Two things will make you sound young:

(1) little vocal folds
(2) a short vocal tract=distance from larynx to lips

#1 gives you a higher fundamental frequency (=the pitch of your voice) and #2 gives you higher formant structure (it's technical, you don't need to know about it).

Do you have kind of a small head at this point in life? If so, that explains #2.

These things will change as you get older. Enjoy your voice as-is.

I am a 18 year old tenor. How can I make the timbre of my singing voice sound younger/adolescent?

Even at 18, your voice isn’t fully developed. Your voice will continue to change into your late 20’s and possibly even early 30’s.The tenor is a very coveted voice type. At age 13, when the voice is changing, it will tend to crack and go between childlike and more mature. If you’re doing this for the purposes of a part in a play or other performance, you can pitch your voice up by mimicking, but I would recommend strongly against trying for it as a permanent change. Working on developing your natural timbre is much preferred.

Singing voice gone after puberty.?

Going through puberty is difficult for a male teenager, because of the shift that occur in your singing voice and the ambiguity of what your adult male singing voice will sound like after your voice has settled. Note that your voice will not fully develop or mature until you have reached your mid-20's. As such, you can learn to sing with the voice that you now have.

You should realize that you are born with a fixed vocal range, however, here are some tips about exploring and increasing your vocal range:http://www.ehow.com/video_4983277_increase-vocal-range.html

Here are some tips about singing falsetto:

Understand how falsetto works. By singing falsetto, you are pulling your vocal cords very tight. Then, you are blowing small amounts of air through the chords and letting them vibrate. This gives the falsetto its unique sound.

Before attempting falsetto, listen to other singers try the style. Try searching online for counter-tenor music or examples of falsetto style. It will also be helpful to watch someone sing falsetto. This way you can note their stance.

As with any singing, you should drink lots of water to keep your vocal chords moist. In falsetto, drying of the outer ridges can occur, because you are pulling the chords so tight. Keeping your vocal chords moist will help keep them from getting strained and improve your overall sound.
When you practice falsetto, watch yourself in the mirror. You will need to focus a lot on your breathing, and watching your body will be helpful.

To get started, inhale as much as you can. You will need a lot of air in your diaphragm (located just under your rib cage) to produce falsetto style. As you sing, you will slowly release this air.

Tape record yourself when you practice. This will help you learn where you need to improve. If you label and save your tapes, it will show you how far you have come.

Is It Too Late To Become A Good Singer?

If you're trying to be a famous singer. I'm going to be honest with you; not gonna happen. If you really enjoy singing than there is nothing wrong with wanting to get better. You're never to old to start training your voice. Pavarotti sang into is 60's. My voice teacher is 58 and still sounds like a nightengale. I knew that I was talented as a kid but i didn't start working on my craft until I was a senior in High School. I've been in so many performing groups. I've watched people come in with no talent and suck worse than William Hung, turn it around in a year or two. Some people are born with great ears for music and pitch, and some just have to try harder. Don't give up on singing ever. It is one of the greatest gifts to share. I hope this helped even a little.

Is it too late to learn to sing at age 18? (with no prior experience )?

you are never too old to sing, especially if you are 18, because your voice actually doesn't stop developing til your late twenties. You might want to check out a local university that has a voice program. That program will most likely have students that teach private voice lessons, and for a good price too! I take voice from a Chapman student for 30 bucks an hour (that's an amazing price, trust me) considering that some voice teachers charge 100 to 200 dollars per hour. You will learn classical voice training (hopefully, because learning differently will hurt your voice and vocal cords) which involves vowel and tone. good luck!!!

My Voice gets deeper after singing for a while?

I notice this same thing with my voice students. As you start to sing, you warm up the muscles and loosen the cartilages involved in vocal production, resulting in the widening of the vocal range. Being able to sing lower after a few minutes is very common especially for basses and baritones. And yes, your voice is probably still changing. The human voice doesn't officially finish developing until the mid to late 20's for most people. Just let it happen and don't push it too hard.

Will I be able to sing high again after puberty?

At 14 you are just starting puberty and it won't be over until your in your late 20's. You will lose your high notes and gain low notes during this time due to your larynx growing wider, thicker and longer.
At the moment your high voice is still known as a "boy soprano"
However at about 28 or so you will be able to sing your high notes in "falsetto" which is an adult male singing high notes and means false voice. It is not normal for a mature male singer to sing a high note with clarity unless it is in falsetto which is a cranial vibration. Rather than a palatal one that young males sing.

No voice change!? Im 14.?

It's still too early to be judging yourself. It takes some guys up until their mid-20s for their voice to change, and even then, some don't have a 'dramatic' change.

Don't worry, and enjoy being you!!

Who cares about some dumb lady on the phone?

I'm a woman myself and I still get mistaken for a little girl, at least you guys have better voices. ;)
