Im 18/male I Live In Nyc And Want To Try Modeling

I Want To Be a ''Male-Model'' ?

Honestly, almost nobody who wants to be a model has what it takes to be one. Most male models nowadays are actually losing money on their "job", as a result of promoting themselves. Also unless you are tremendously lucky, chances are you will never get discovered. Most models have nicer hair often as a result of plastic surgery, have nicer bodies as a result of steroids, nicer skin which is freaking expensive to maintain unless you have someone paying it for you, etc.

People who will also take advantage of you.

But, if you really want to be a male model though, you need to move to Los Angeles or New York and prepare to be poor and work non stop. Don't get tempted to do porn, it is quick cash but it will destroy your reputation. Play a lot of sports, this will keep your body in top top shape. If your hair is any thing less than outrageously thick you can give up now. Keep your teeth in tip top shape, get regular whitening, and be prepared to dump all the money you make at a side job, like waiting tables, into your looks.

Don't be a male model for the wrong reasons, fame isn't gonna happen. Probably. You gotta love the fashion, know your designers, live and breathe staying ahead of the trends.

Because of media whores like Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton, we live in an era when people think they can all be models, dancers, singers and actors. Obviously not everybody can and these fields are fiercely competitive and careers are notoriously short and devastatingly unsuccessful.

How does one become a male model?

First off, you need to fit the physical requirements. Make models are usually between 5'11" and 6'2", at a weight of 140 to 165 pounds. They are also either very conventionally good-looking or have an "interesting" face. Most male models start out between 18 and 25, since buyers of male fashions aren't usually into the baby-faced look. Some continue working into their thirties. A conventionally attractive male modelAnjrej Peijic's unconventional androgynous look led to his career in modeling. You're good-looking, tall, thin and the right age? Let's find you an agent. An agent finds you bookings and keep  a 10% to 33% cut. Some models can freelance, but that's not how they'll land the major gigs. You can find an agent through Open calls:This is when an agency opens their doors to everyone. On a specified date, unsigned models can wait their turn to meet the agents. You'll be called into an office, and the people in charge will look at you and determine if you have potential. You don't even need head shots. Model search: Similar to an open call, a model search is held by agencies who travel to small towns looking for new faces. However, because they involved travel, model searches usually charge a small processing fee, something along the lines of $25 U.S.. You might be rejected, but you'll get to meet industry professionals.Scouting company: For between $60 and $150, you submit your profile to them online and they'll forward your information to major agencies. Reputable scouting services include www.modelscouts.com and www.minxmodels.com.On your own: You can always call agencies to see when their next open call is, or see if you can drop in. Don't get ripped off! Avoid modeling schools and pushy photographers, both of which might try to scam you or rip you off by charging thousands of dollars for their services.

I am an attractive 25-year-old male with no acting experience. I truly believe I have what it takes to make it in Hollywood but don't know where to even begin. Is it too late for me? How do I get started?

Get some professional headshots done -- those aren't even really used all that much but they're essential in making you look like a legitimate actor. Get yourself a profile on Cazt (http://Cazt.com) so you can submit yourself for open calls. There's another similar casting call website but I can't remember the name of it. Open calls are happening literally hundreds of times a day in L.A. so submit yourself early and often and see what happens. Sometimes just having the right look is enough for someone to decide to bring you in, and then it's just up to you to impress once you're in the room.(Don't assume that everyone is automatically biased towards more experienced actors. When I was casting my short film a couple years ago, I had some very well-regarded actors read for the lead role but I ended up going with someone who was far less experienced. Why? He blew me away with his audition. And he did a fantastic job in the film.)Build up your reel as quickly as possible -- doesn't have to be high-level stuff, just you on-camera being great. Get your reel online, in high quality, and easily accessible. (Again, from personal experience: I looked at 300-500 candidates for each of the major roles in my short. If someone didn't have a reel, or their reel was difficult to access, I moved on quickly.)Network like crazy. Make sure everyone around you knows that you're an actor, but don't be obnoxious about it. Don't feel the need to be actor-y in social situations. It's much better to develop a reputation as a  hard worker, a good collaborator, and a friendly person. That's what filmmakers are looking for. Ideally, move to LA. Until you come here, you can't fathom the number of productions that are filming here, literally 365 days a year, all day, every day. And this is where all the big stuff happens, so if you meet someone at a party who knows the casting director for the Spielberg movie and can get you first in line at open calls -- that could be your break. (There are plenty of student and indie productions going on in Austin and other cities, and that's not bad for building up your reel, but you really need to be here, or secondarily in NYC, if you want your best chance of success.)
