Im About To Be A Sophmore In Highschool And Finished Summer Track Recently And I Run In The 12 To

Should I join my high school’s cross country team even if I’m not fit/have no experience in running (I’m going into 9th grade. I’m 5′1, about 115 pounds, and a female)?

You will find yourself in good company! If your doc clears you to run, by all means, run! One thing you can do prior to X-C: trying running a little on your own over the summer (2–3 times per week). Run/walk to start if necessary. Work up to 3 miles in 30 minutes, if possible. Don’t neglect your flexibility after runs. Stretch! Chances are, a coach will expect you to run a couple of miles right out of the gate. And you’ll be ahead of most of the freshman girls when you get there.

Tips for going into Sophomore year of High School?

Hi there! I finished my Freshman year of high school this past June, and in the midst of summer excitement, I, like most teens my age, thought to myself: "So, what's the deal with Sophomore year?" *Which, by the way, starts August 22nd* Any who, my question is, are there any specific tips that I should look into regarding sophomore year? For example, how to make and keep good grades, how to stay organized, any supplies I might need, how to deal with a rigorous class schedule, how to keep friends, etc. I want to do very well in my classes this year, seeing as I goofed off a bit in Freshman year (Exclusively in Math Class). As a result, I only maintained an unweighted GPA of 3.88. :( Keep in mind, I am the kind of 15 year old girl who has plenty of friends, but never leaves the house to spend time with them. (Parents doing, not mine.) Also, i'm not exactly boy crazy, so relationship advice may not apply here, ha ha. Anyway, any advice would be helpful! Oh, and here is my class schedule for reference:

AP Government
Honors Chemistry
Honors English 2
Honors Pre-Calculus/Trigonometry
Honors Spanish 3
Health Ed.
Theatre 2.

Thanks! :D
Love & Hugs~

What is high school cross country like?

It's great. I ran 3 years in high school and loved it. Practice was every day after school, usually 2 hours or so. We did a lot of hill work, speed play (run hard for 200 meters, easy for 200 meters, etc for about 3 miles with a half mile warm up/warm down), some 400 meter work for speed and the occasional long run, usually 6-8 miles. As for pace, boys now run, if I recall, 5 km and girls 3 km. I think, as a sophomore, 7.30-8 minute miles should be a good base and as you get stronger, those times should drop. If you can run 5 km at a 6 minute/mile pace, you'll be doing fine.

Now a lot depends on your school's course. We had a brutal course, lots of long uphills and a couple of short really tough hills. We also ran on flat courses through parks but the tough hill courses were the most fun.

Have a great time!

I'm Starting High school This Fall, I'm Scared.. Any Advice on Surviving High school?

How can I graduate early from high school?

Perhaps the most important issue to consider is - what do you want to do after you graduate. If you want to work, you may be too young for numerous jobs. If you want to go to college, consider in which colleges you’re interested, which major and what high school course work would help you for these majors.I graduated high school early, at the end of my junior year, because my situation at home was difficult. My parents were fighting, blamed it on me, and threatened to kick me out of the house. I offered to finish high school a year early, and leave in a few months. However, I really did not take course work that would have helped me in college (I attended Reed college, a tough school). In high school, I had time for only geometry, trig, and algebra 2, but not pre-calc, which I would have taken my senior year. If I’d had pre-calc (or better yet, HS calc - not offered then), it would have been very useful for my college courses. Also, I’d taken biology and chemistry, but not physics. Again, taking HS physics would have made my college course load easier.I did well in high school - in my junior year, I had the top scores, in my school of about 2,000 students, in both the math and English SAT tests, as well as a 5 on my English AP exam. (The only AP course offered at the time in my high school in California in 1969).If you can take courses at a nearby college, you may make friends there with whom you are more compatible. This could help you decide on a college major, and better prepare you for college studies.Good luck!

I’m a sophomore and my 400m time is 54.1, and my 800 is 2:12. I just started running track this past winter season. Will running cross-country in the fall benefit my times?

Definitely your 800m time.

What happens when you fail a class in high school?

I’m going anonymous in case my teacher sees this.I have failed an English class in Grade 9. The reason why I failed because I was stressing about the medical procedure I was going through in a few months. I forgot to read my book for the quizes, thus I failed most of them. We had to write an essay. I failed it. There were very few things that I got a B on. She emailed me saying that maybe it would be more helpful if I repeat the class next year, because I’d be more focused. I got lucky, because I would have to stay home for a few months after my procedure, so I didn’t repeat the course. I did have to do credit recovery. So the reason I failed wasn’t because I didn’t know the material, it was because I forgot to study (and also failed almost every assignment as a result) because of my circumstance. You would probably have to repeat the course next year. You can either do your grade level course the semester after your previous one, or you can do summer school. Also, you can be a grade behind in the course if you take it the year after you were supposed to.

Average - Good GIRLS cross country times?

I'm a senior and have ran HS xc for 4 years.. I was 3rd in my conference and am ranked 12th in the state.. my fastest time for a 5k (3.1 miles) is 20:50. The really good girls in our state (like the state champions) can run low 19s, upper 18s on a flat course. Anything in the 19s is amazing, anything in the 20s is very good, 21s is above average, 22-23 is about average, and 24 and up is below average. But it also depends on whether the course is hilly, because then the times would be much slower. A basic tip would be to get more miles in.. like in the summer you need to train at least 30 miles a week and get a good mileage base
