Im From Florida. Im 16 And My Boyfriend Is 20. Are We Legal

My boyfriend is 20 and im 16 is that legal?

It's not illegal for an adult to date a minor. In terms of sex, however, it might be. The age of consent, the age at which a person is deemed capable of consenting to have sex, differs from state to state. Most states are at 16. So, if you live in Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Connecticut, DC, Georgia, Hawai'i, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Vermont, Washington or West Virginia and sex is a part of your relationship, you guys are fine.

If you live in any state not listed above, the age of consent is at either 17 or 18.

The Velvet Sinner...like I said in my response to your e-mail, internet search. There are legitimate sites out there that show the age of consent in every state and, for most, it IS at 16. For example, look at the site posted by user below me.

I'm 16 and my boyfriend is 20.?

I think that's perfectly fine. If you want more mature guys or something, that's your decision and I don't think anyone should say anything about your happiness unless you rush into things that shouldn't be done until you are SURE SURE (bet your life on it) that he's the one.

My grandparents are like years apart and they met when they were young and it worked out so why shouldn't it work out for you?

Good Luck.

Im 16 and my boyfriend is turning 20. is it illegal for us to date?

At most, it would only be illegal if you're having sex. In most places, the age of consent is 16, so you're fine anyway. Your mom can have a rule that you can't have sex in your home, which she has a right to do because she provides your home for you. But if you are of the age of consent, and most likely you are, she can't stop you from having sex somewhere else. But, in this case, you're not having sex, so don't worry, it's legal.

All that said, talk to your mom, without your boyfriend present. Ask her why she is concerned, why does she think it's all about sex. Ask her to trust you that you won't have sex (assuming that is your plan). This is more an issue about your relationship with your mom than whether your relationship is legal or not.

we've been together for over three years now an we are super happy together. when i told him i was pregnant, we was so supportive and exciting to be a dad. i've had a surgical abortion before and it was a horrible experience, so im thinking about keeping the baby this time. i'm homeschooled and i have a job. i haven't told my mom yet but she is very supportive and loves my boyfriend, i'm more than positive she wont press any charges. im curious to know if my boyfriend can sign the birth certificate regardless his age. can he get in trouble with the law? btw i live in california and the age consent is 18 years old. any advice would help, thanck you (:

Im 16 pregnant my boyfriends 20 can he go to jail?

I'm 16 pregnant and my boyfriend in 20. My parents never have had any problem with us being together. I will be 17 when the baby is born and he will still be 20. I want to be able to tell the doctors he is the father because we want his name on the birth certificate. We are both afraid if the hospital at the time of the birth knows he is the father and is 4 years older than i am will have him arrested. Does anyone have advice or experience in a situation like this? p.s we live in North Carolina.

I'm 18 and my girlfriend is 17. Is this an illegal relationship?

No, it generally isn’t illegal.Look up the laws where you live. It should be very easy to find the age of consent for your state or country. Here are the ages of consent for all states of the US:These are the ages where sexual intercourse is completely legal.Even if your state has an age of consent of 18, it still may be legal. Some states have a “close in age exemption”, but you’ll have to look that up for yourself. Also, look it up for your own individual state, as it sounds like different states have separate laws for sexual intercourse and sexual acts in general. For instance, from Ages of consent in the United States - Wikipedia, California’s law specifies 18 as being the age of consent for sexual intercourse, while 14 seems to be the age of consent for any sexual act not including intercourse, including oral and anal sex. On the other hand, in Illinois, the age of consent is 17 (but 18 with someone with a position of authority or trust), and any sexual act between 9 and 16 is classified as criminal sexual assault. So really, just do your research for your state, because despite the states all being under the United States of America, they all have widely different laws in regards to the age of consent.
