Im Locked Into My Car

What should I do if I locked my keys in my car?

Unless you're hundreds of miles away from home, the cheapest & easiest option is to go home.  So, either get a lift, walk or use public transport. Then retrieve your spare key & return to your car.You do have a spare key...? (If you don't, it'd be a good idea to get one now, whilst you still have a key that works.  If the cost of a new key from the manufacturer is prohibitive, locksmiths can copy the key & clone the immobiliser chip, but they will need an original key in order to do this).Alternatively, most cars can still be opened by a locksmith using a 'Slim-Jim', a thin hook affair that is slid down between the glass and rubber on the driver's door.  It is used to manipulate the door lock & open the door.Emergency call-out motoring organisations are usually good at this too.  (AA, RAC., or Green Flag in the UK., AAA in the USA).This option assumes you've locked your key in the car, because you'll need your car key to switch the alarm off.  (Most cars made within the last 15 years or so have an alarm system which will be triggered if the car is opened by any method that doesn't use the key). This is usually a much cheaper option compared to breaking a window. Finally:If you have no option but to break a window, break the window that is easiest to fix!The cost of the glass in minor compared to the cost of the labour to replace it.  The smallest piece of glass isn't necessarily the cheapest to replace....Ask me how I know...!(The smaller pieces of glass are often fixed quarter-lights.   They can be a fairly major undertaking to replace, as a lot of the door and door frame may need to be dismantled.  A movable piece of glass is usually MUCH easier to replace. The difference in cost to obtain a new piece of glass between a larger piece -v- a small piece is minimal.  The cost of the labour isn't.  Obviously, this varies depending on the age/make of car, but most modern cars, when they have quarter lights, require a lot of dismantling to get them out).

I just LOCKED MY KEYS IN MY CAR!!!!!?

Try to jimmy the lock with a wire hanger or something of the sort if you can get something through a window to the lock.

If not, you might get a friend or co-worker to let you use their AAA -- otherwise, call a tow service and they'll send someone out to get you in. That should cost about $40.00 depending on where you are and who you use.

Im locked out of my car?! 1997 toyota camry. help plz ASAP!?

okay, no one I know in person would think that I know how to do this but...

Get a nail file or small pocket knife. Put in the TRUNK lock and jimmy it very very gently until it turns. Then climb in (making sure not to shut it on yourself) and find the backseat release pull/button (most cars have them so people don't get locked in the trunk). You will then be able to get into the back seat and unlock the door (at least the back one). Ta-DA, you're in the car.

The reason you use the trunk lock is because it is much easier to pick than the driver door. And it is important to be very gentle and not push it too far or else you will break off the file and then you're screwed.

P.S.S Go to a AAA auto club and they will make you a plastic key on a card for just this occasion, it only costs 15 dollars. Or you can always take your car to a dealer and have them cut you some spare keys to keep at home in case, but it is more expensive.

And no, I wont tell you how to hot wire it, lol.

I'm a member of AAA. My friend locked her keys in the car, can I get it opened with my AAA membership for her?

I know AAA will open your own car if you lock your keys inside, but can I get them to unlock my friends car? She locked her keys inside and I had heard that they will open a friends car. Is this true?
