Im Scared Of Driving Help

I'm scared of driving?

oh yeah it is completely normal. we are constantly bombarded with warnings about drink driving and speeding and not driving to the conditions it would be no suprise if more than half the population decided, like you, to avoid driving.
trust me, this feeling will soon leave as you ease into driving more and more. and the convenience will be great too.
someone needs to be honest with you though. although your friends and family take you everywhere, deep down they probably wish you would start driving for yourself. especially with petrol prices so high. and your friends probably think its your turn to be the designated driver!
so just take that step and drive. you will gain so much confidence and independence if you do.

Im so scared to drive?

you know, fear is a great motivator, it can make us do things we never thought possible, it can also cause us great distress, and uncontrollable emotion and make us almost too paralyzed to move. Fear is healthy, it keeps us from getting hurt, fear is normal, say this word please? normal that's ok, as you gain confidence in your driving ability, you will begin to enjoy it, and you will have less fear, sometimes, when we as humans are way out of our comfort zone, we can let our minds race with could, should would, you want to ignore these feelings, and focus on what your driving instructor is saying, put everything else out of your mind, focus on the car, where it is going, and what you plan to do next, you have to teach your body through repetition over and over what steps you need to learn to become a good driver, that is why you have to have a certain number of behind the wheel hours, its to make you confident in your abilities, so one day soon you will say HEY, I CAN DO THIS!! . hang in there listen carefully to the instructor and you will do just fine.

Im scared to drive for the first time! HELP!!?

I dont know if i can do this, im so scared to drive, are there any tips you could give me for the first drive to relax and what to do when i drive? I'm 22 and i'm scared to drive how can i over come this?????

I understand...I didn't drive until I was about 20! I know its scary, but it's really just about getting used to your car. I'm a great driver now, but I was so scared in the beginning.

Get your permit and have someone drive you to a quiet place. My mom took me to a cemetery! That way you can learn at your own pace until you feel comfortable enough to get out on the road. It comes easily - just remember the most important part is learning how to stop the vehicle. Whenever you feel overwhelmed, put on the brakes and pull over until you can start again. Best of luck!

Is it normal to be scared of driving at first?

Yes , I am a car enthusiast myself and in the beginning it was nerve-racking and scary. It’s normal to be scared but there are some advice and tips to help you overcome fear behind the wheel. I got my license in 2 months at the age of 17. I was scared too but the more you sit in a car and just visualize what’s in front of you the easier it gets. You have to look very far ahead of you and time everything right. You can go to a really good driving school and look up reviews on the schools to make sure they can help you overcome your fear. If you live in the city you really don’t need a car unless you want a job in car service or something else.I always had the mindset of getting into an accident but find the confidence to get behind the wheel and the more you drive the easier it gets. Muscle memory plays a big role in overcoming your fear as a new driver. You need to learn how to judge other driver’s intentions and be aware of your surroundings. Don’t get distracted and never drink and drive. Always obey the speed limit and let tailgaters pass you. It’s easier said then done. I am 17 and driving just comes naturally for me. Although you may be scared you can try to learn in a parking lot and familiarize yourself with the ins and outs of a car. Watch a lot of car videos or try playing your favorite song on the radio. Most importantly safety should be prioritized in every given situation; so drive safe and good luck !

Scared of driving, i have my permit but i'm still scared to drive.?

I can of course help you out. It is completely normal to have those types of worries while you are on or off the road. I have them too so don't worry you are not alone. Everyone is worries about getting into an accident either hitting someone or someone else hitting you. I have had my license for a little over two years now and I swear when I had my permit I was just as if not much more nervous than you are right now. When I first got my permit I would drive in an alley with a guardian and stall the engine almost one hundred times. I failed getting my license the first time because I pulled out in front of a car going forty miles an hour, and not having two hands on the wheel but I passed the second time only forgetting to look through my rearview mirrors. I have motavational assemblies at my school and those talk an awful lot about things like car accidents but the truth is the road is really not as bad as people think it is and a lot of car accidents come from illegal drug use, being drunk, or having inability to make right decesions. When you get your license and start driving always remember that you have God right beisde you and that he will make sure that you are safe, protected, and at peace the whole ride. If you are not religious, I hope I have not offended you. Also if you like to listen to music turn on your radio station but not too loud so that you can hear emergency vehicles if one is coming. Music is a relaxing thing for the body, mind, and soul. Also know that you have positive thoughts and prayers coming from your husband as well and your husband is very lucky to have a wife like you who has the courage to get online and ask this question. I wish you the best of luck!

I'm scared of driving. How can I overcome this fear?

First, a little fear when operating 2 tons of metal at 60 mph is probably wise. However, if you find your fear is keeping you from performing necessary tasks then you may need some help.Have you taken driving training from a private company? You might feel less anxious if you have an instructor in the car with you. This will also give you practice time in a less stressful environment. Going to a driving school also will lead to your desensitization as you gain safe experience time behind the wheel.Finding a therapist is another option. Be aware, they're probably going to assign homework, doing specific tactics to lower your stress level. It might start as innocuously as sitting in the driver's seat for fifteen minutes parked in your driveway. Then the next step would be to start the engine and get used to the sounds of the running car, practice the way the pedals feel, and so on; take it step by step. Eventually, you will be ready to put the car in gear, practice driving around the block. Then, when you feel it's time drive to the nearest store or drive-in, buy yourself a treat--you deserve it. That's one scenario that your therapist might suggest. I'm sure you and he/she can work out other ways to approach your anxiety.I certainly hope these ideas help. I can't drive anymore because of medication and I miss the freedom. Don't let anxiety deprive you of that liberty.Jeff

I have my permit, but I'm too scared to drive. How can I get over that?

Okay, so I'm 15 & I've had my permit for a few months now, but I have never gotten behind the wheel yet.
I'm so scared about driving. Like, I know what I have to do to drive. But, I'm terrified to actually do it.
I feel like I'm gonna put too much pressure or not enough pressure on the gas pedal and brake. And I have really bad judgement, so I don't really know when to start pressing the brakes at like traffic lights or stop signs.
But, the thing I'm scared of most of all is getting into a crash. When I'm sitting in the passenger seat, and someone is merging into the lane I'm in, I freak out and hold onto my seat belt really tight. So, if I were driving, I feel like my reaction would be worse. And to add to that, I get distracted so easily. Especially with billboards. Why do they put those things on the sides of roads?! Theyre terribly distracting!
So, obviously I have anxiety about driving. And I have to drive soon, so I can get enough hours to get my license and then I won't have to ride the bus to school. How can I help getting over this anxiety & staying focused?
Don't say driving is the only way to get over it, I'm tired of hearing that. Obviously I'm not gonna drive if I'm too terrified and distracted.
