Im Trying To Make A Musical. That Might Appeal As Something Like Phantom Of The Opera

Great musicals with classical music like phantom of the opera?

I'm afraid you won't get any answers if you post in "pop" music because people who listen to Ke$ha and Justin Bieber are PROBABLY not going to be the theatre musical crowd either.

So, in case you have figured it out--having the word "opera" in a title of something doesn't mean it is one.

In addition to operas and operettas (Gilbert and Sullivan wrote operettas)--you might enjoy some traditional Broadway musicals before they did turn to pop-style music.
They still are "classical", but if you like the sound of what theatre folks call a "legit" soprano, you might enjoy recordings of these:

"Showboat" Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein II
Here are songs from that musical (and to appease the classical folks, they are song by actual opera singers--in concert)

"The King and I"-Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II
"Hello, Young Lovers" (from the movie version--singing voice is that of Marni Nixon)

You might like the movie, but you might want to find the Broadway version since the film cuts some songs out entirely--like Tuptim's "My Lord and Master".

"West Side Story" by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim
"Tonight" (both actors singing voices are dubbed--in the case of Maria--Marnie Nixon again)

"Candide" Leonard Bernstein (and a whole bunch of lyricists)
This comes closer to an opera than many musicals--but is at best an operetta and is still considered a musical
This is Kristen Chenowith in a concert performance of one of the most familiar of the songs (she actually has a degree in opera performance):

Here is the opening song from Stephen Sondheim's "Sweeney Todd" (cut from the movie version)-"The Ballad of Sweeney Todd"

Then there is the "other Phantom"--one by Maury Yeston and Arthur Kopit that got bumped when backers found out that ALW was doing HIS version.
This is a rather delightful high school production (this is the diva Carlotta with "This Place is Mine"). Maybe not the best technically from a musical standpoint, but it is supposed to be funny and the girl goes all out:

Phantom of the opera music sheet?

You can go from measure 3 to measure 18 and the lyrics would be:

Think of me, think of me fondly when we've said goodbye.
Remember me, once in a while, Please promise me you'll try.
When you find, that once again you long to take your heart
back and be free,
If you ever find a moment, spare a thought for me.

Or you can do measures 66 to 88 which is the beautiful ending if you want to make a big impression.
Lyrics:
Flowers fade, The fruits of summer fade,
They have their seasons so do we.
But please promise me that sometimes
You will think...
(Opera singing)
Of me!

Assuming you're talking about the versions by Andrew Lloyd Webber and not some other, lesser known ones:Musical stage version:There are a lot of loose ends, but what we can assume is that:--Christine and Raoul have left and still plan to get married. They'll probably lead a relatively happy, quiet life together, but will forever be haunted by their experience with the Phantom.--The Phantom's primary reason for happiness has left. He may commit suicide, or find another place to eek out a depressing existence, but he'll always be tortured by his memories of Christine and what might have been. To me, at least, there's a heavy implication he'll commit suicide or, as in the original novel, die of heartbreak.Film version:--We flash forward to see that Raoul is old, but still alive, and manages to visit Christine's gravestone, which reveals that they got married and she was the mother to his children.--A rose with the original engagement ring is left on the gravestone, without anyone nearby heavily suggesting that the Phantom is still alive, but furthermore, he is well enough to remain sneaky and ghost-like. Despite losing Christine, he is still so in love/obsessed with her that he pays tribute to her, even after death.

Why do women find the phantom of the opera romantic?

First of all, Phantom of the Opera (the movie) SUCKS ***! Secondly, Phantom of the Opera (the musical) is pretty good, but OVER-RATED!

Now that being said...

Women are very different from one another, yet at the same time we're similar. We look like a 'one-size-fits-all' sort of deal, but trust me, we aren't. Every woman exudes a different personality, emotion, logic, etc. Most women, however, are very insecure about themselves. This is something that Phantom of the Opera sells to.

Here you have a pretty young lady who's been a background talent (chorus girl) in operas. She's shy, a little introverted, has only one good friend, a sad history; really she's kind of pitiful even though she has the potential to sing. So the phantom provides her singing lessons and builds her confidence. Why does he do this? Because she lacks confidence in herself, he's able to take advantage of her emotions easily. This is something predators do. But when she finally develops the confidence she once lacked, she attracts other men (including her childhood crush) and pursues him. So jealously enrages the phantom and he holds on to her tighter, which of course would make anyone try to free themselves even more. And then it just turns ugly for the phantom.

Do you see it? Women who are very insecure or lack confidence in themselves, love being told how wonderful and/or talented they are (even when they aren't). It's the attention. Some intentionally use men for it, some unintentionally. And when a woman's confidence develops, she has to move into a bigger shell.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to bash women or anything; especially since men guilty of this too. They just don't wear their emotions on their sleeve.

Sheet Music for Classical and Opera?

Ok, so Solo Ensemble is coming up, where you do a musical piece for some judges, and I would like to enter. The problem is, I don't have any sheet music for the songs I would like to choose from. I have been looking around the internet for quite some time, searching for the "piano and soloist" arrangements for them. I can't find the right arrangements, whether they be free or not. (preferably free) Could anyone help?

These are the songs I want to choose from:
(the stared ones are the ones I don't have)

** "O Mio Babbino Caro"
** "Lascia Ch'io Pianga"
** "The Jewel Song" (from the Opera "Faust")
** "The Last Rose of Summer"
** "Nella Fantasia"
"Danny Boy"
"Pie Jesu"

If you happen to find a song that fits the voice range of these songs, that has a beautiful, sad tune, It would be greatly appreciated. (kind of like how "Par le Rang et Par L'opulence" and "Danny Boy" have a sad, slow tune)

Is Phantom of the Opera too scary for an 11 year old?

Get him some fun horror movies those always seem to appeal to the youth movement.... Movies like saw which he has apparently seen... a good one would be 13 ghosts... a kid that age has to love seeing battle type things... Alien vs Predator would be good he would stay interested but not scared...my suggestion would be these... Van Helsing (and yes it falls under horror/action) 13 ghosts Alien vs Predator (it also falls under horror) Final Destination Series Any movie by Romero preferrably the newer ones for an 11 yr old but it would consist of (Night of the dead, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead etc.) House on Haunted Hill When a stranger calls Jeepers Creeper 1 & 2 and then the Friday the 13th series and Nightmare on Elm St. series.... All this being said... im assuming by the movies he's already watched nudity is ok for him to see...b/c only a couple of what i listed contain no nudity. Hope that helps....

What do you think are the requirements to be the "Phantom of the Opera"?

Mkay....
You're going to need a tuxedo. Try one with the tail on the back, that's classic Phantom....Make it black, with the black tie, but something else to take attention...maybe a red rose on the lapel. Obviously get your mask. And slick your hair back as much as you can, also put stage make up on to be a little more pale, unless you already have that down. (no offense) When it comes to acting like him, be mysterious, when talking to people try things like when they ask you a question..."I could answer that, but i have the feeling you already know...." but make sure it's not a repeated line for every ?. Also be passionate in your responses, but at the same time, somewhat reserved. The phantom is brilliant and genius, but somewhat shy to a point. People have betrayed the phantom, and he doesn't trust them, but would love more than anything to have a relationship. He doesn't look in people's eye's much, until they say something that outrages him, or interests him deeply. Hope I helped. Break A Leg!

---Also a cape might be a good addition. Put a little dark eye make up on, he has a dence face. And try one of those frilly shirts (the dress ones). but make sure to try it on-it might be too much

Who has piano sheet music for the different songs in the phantom of the opera?

I have it, I wont be able to send it to you though. I'm sorry. But I got it at an all around music place, mostly for guitars but they had a lot of piano books. Don't look for it on the internet though because they always put up the wrong stuff. Like I one time tried to look up Stevie Nicks songs on the internet and it was bogus on the "number 1 music sheet website". Go to any store that holds piano stores and look to see if they have the Phantom of the Opera music. And dont go for the "for beginners" or something like that because those arent correct either. Good luck in your search
