Imagine Technology Wasn

If there was no technology, what would happen to the world?

People will begin to like people again, families will be tighter, kids won't be left to their electronic devices(babysitters/fill in parent).parents will not have to work so much to pay for said electronic devices.more human interaction with kids that will possibly alleviate and/or extinguish mass school shootings.I'd be happy if all I had was an ugly green phone on the wall with a long curly cord.

In ten years, what technology will people not believe wasn't adopted sooner?

Robots in the home, work place, some police and some security guards. These are coming and people and governments need to decide on the ethics and safeguards for having these robot workers and helpers. Can we take a robot to court, or its designer or the supervisor of the robot that makes a mistake or even hurts or kills a person. WE have seen this issue with automated cars already. However, the advantages of robot helpers could be advantageous but at what cost to employment opportunities for manual and low skilled workers and also children and some adults emotional attachment to their new robot friends. We can what has happened with reliance of computers, cell phones and modern technology today. Imagine an unbalanced person surrounded by robotic maids, companions, security guards and possibly assassins - a neighbour from hell!Your views?

What were the new technologies that were introduced by the iPhone?

I suppose the big one wasn't so much a new technology, but the use of an existing one. The iPhone, to the best of my knowledge, was the first phone to have a decent web browser.Other than that, I can't think of anything. Phones had apps long before the iPhone, and of course the first iPhone didn't have apps at all, it was a feature phone.Email was being done by BlackBerry long before iPhone, much better too.Capacitive screens were being done before, and frankly I consider it a retrograde step vs. the accuracy of stylus driven screens. These days you can have accurate stylus support on capacitive screens like on Surface or Galaxy Note, but that wasn't there on the first generation of iPhone. But it was the web browser that was the biggie really, you could realistically browse the web on an iPhone, on the phones before, like my Nokia Communicator, it was pretty much a last resort option.

What would happen if suddenly we had no technology?

As we grow more and more dependent on technology we lose the ability to survive without it. What will happen if we can no longer produce the materials and power required to run our techno-society. This could result from a devastating global war or simply over time as we exhaust our resources and expand our population.

Could any of you survive a nomadic existance? Could you fend for yourselves? Could you fight for your family's survival?

Please share your thoughts.

Would you have believed modern technology would exist if you lived 100 years ago?

100 years ago probably would have been the time when T A Edison lived and was surprising the world with his inventions..so if I was there I would probably start to believe that technology would develop rapidly..BUT NOT so much to have internet and ipods :)

What did you imagine 2018 to be like about 20 - 30 years ago?

Well… we Nerds in the 80ies knew about Moore's Law, so the advancement in computer tech wasn’t that surprising.I was indeed thinking about something we call smartwatch today.I was hoping for artificial and and anti-grav though, so that we still don’t have any flying cars is a disappointment. What I would never have imagined, though, is that dangerous critical systems like hospitals and power plants would be connected to a network that is accessible to all and therefore open to hacking or that everybody would voluntarily carry a tracking device which is also used to handle every and all communication (which we now call smartphone… isn’t that smart?).So, it was not that difficult to predict the technological advancements during the next 30 years. What I didn’t think off is the amount people would make themselves dependent on the technology and how ignorant they would be of the possible consequences.

What did people do for fun back in the old days without technology?

What, like 100 years ago? Before movies? Or a little bit after that.
Let's pretend it is sometime in the early 1900s, middle-class family, mid-sized city. Just for example.

Played music.
Played games.
Wrote.
Read.
Worked in the garden.
Had friends over for dinner.
Ice cream socials.
Parades.
Parties.
Dances.
Picnics.
Fairs.
Long walks in the park.
Painted/drew.
Went to concerts.
Went to the theater.
Wrote letters.
Put together photo albums.
Occasionally gone to movies (this was just starting out)
Perhaps even gone to the library if the town was fortunate enough to have one.

Actually, none of the things you mention would have been missed, as they had: books, music, photos, friends, entertainment, ways to look up information and stay in touch with people who were far away. The only thing that has changed is the level of technology and speed and convenience of delivery.

In a lot of ways, I believe they may have appreciated things more, because they did not expect as much "excitement" to keep them interested, and they may have valued time with friends and family more as well.

Imagine it is 1965 and you have just received your draft notice to serve in the war in Vietnam. What are you..?

I was in NYC when I received my physical notice in the summer of 1965. When you get the notice to show for the physical that meant the notice to report for service was just a couple months behind it. I was a bit surprised since they had been drafting at 23 years old and I wasn't 21 yet. They cleaned out all the eligible guys older than me in just a few months.

I investigated an occupational deferment but it was too late. They already had my name and it would have taken a scramble to have it pulled. I wasn't against going in even though I had already started a high tech career in early commercial computers.

It turns out I very much like being a soldier but the Army was unbearably bureaucratic and too often stupidly so. I was glad when I left it two years later but I still miss being a soldier. It had a sense of purpose and connection with the world like I experienced only when I hunted in younger years.

So long as any cultures overpopulate soldiers and wars will be necessary. They must eventually take more land and/or resources from other people for their expanding numbers when they can no longer take them just from other species. The other people must fight to stop them.
