Imdb Users How Many Movies Have You Rated

How does IMDB rate all the movies and TV series?

IMDb relies on its users for movie ratings. Registered users rate a movie/show on a scale of 10, and IMDb assigns an average rating based on these ratings. But for the Top 250, IMDb doesn't use the average rating formula. Instead, they calculate a separate weighted rating using a Bayesian estimate. Only regular voters are considered to avoid bots to vote for a movie (either giving it a high or a low rating) thus increasing/decreasing it's popularity. The Bayesian estimate ensures that a movie with more number of high ratings goes on the top. Because of this, a movie with a higher average rating may be lower than another movie with a lower average rating simply because it was found to have a lower weighted rating. The formula IMDb follows can be found at the bottom of the Top 250 page. (http://www.imdb.com/chart/top)You can see that movies 3-6 have the same average rating (9/10) but are placed differently on the virtue of different number of voters and their weighted ratings. The Shawshank Redemption has an average rating of 9.3, but its weighted rating is 9.2.

Whats the highest rated movie on IMDb?

According to the Top 250 rated movies it's "The Godfather" with a 9.1 rating.

How does the movie Se7en have an 8.7 rating on iMDB?

It was a great movie, but i seen far better movies, and they have like 6-7 rating, where as this movie, i found it great, but 8.7 kinda seems exaggerated. What did people find soo amazing in it? Again, great movie.

Does IMDB seem to rate good movies really low, or do i just have a dry humor and bad taste in movies?

IMDb does not rate movies. The USERS on IMDb rate the movies, so the ratings that you see are an assigned score based on a number of factors. I could just be that people who visit IMDb are cinephiles, and have are more discriminating when assigning a score. I think it's important to remember that an average vote on IMDb is somewhere in the high sixes (maybe 6.7 or so). Only a few movies are rated above a 9, and only a few are rated below a 2.

People tend to be very extreme assignings score to movies. It's either: a) That's the BEST movie I've EVER seen, I give it a 10! or b) That's the WORST movie I've ever seen, I give it a 1! If you're being logical, the score for movies should follow the bell curve, meaning that most average films will fall somewhere in the 5.5 - 6.5 range, making the average scores on IMDb a tad HIGHER than what should be expected.

Perhaps what you consider to be a perfect "10" should be more realistically assigned a "7" for "good".

How do you decide your movie rating at IMDb?

Thanks for A to A. :)Rating a movie is fun. Isn't it? See there's a very simple and weird method I follow to rate movies on IMDb. I simply divide it in two parts. A maximum of 5 ratings for movie content and the same for entertainment value. To make things clear, let me explain it with examples.Suppose I recently watched 4 movies. Happy New Year, Haider, Bang Bang and Ankhon Dekhi. Now this is how I will rate these flicks.1. Happy New Year - Keeping my fanboyism towards SRK aside, let me admit the movie was low on content. I found it another typical forced comedy saved a bit by climax. So I will rate it 2.5/5 for content. Now come to second part. The movie has some of its moments and made laugh sometimes. Ignoring few boring moments, I found it quite entertaining. So I would rate it 3.5/5 for the latter part. In this way, HNY is 6/10 movie for me which are not so good ratings as per IMDb standards.2. Bang Bang - Neither it had content nor I found it entertaining. So I will go for 2+2=4/10 for it.3. Ankhon Dekhi - I doubt if you saw the movie. But let me tell you the movie gives a very good message at the end. So I will go for 3.5 for its content. But I found the way the movie has been executed quite boring and found intolerable at place. So it had no entertainment value and will go for 2/5. Overall it has 5.5/10 IMDb ratings for me.4. Haider - Brilliant content. Superbly directed. Breathtaking cinematography. Totally engaging. Didn't find a single dull moment. This is Haider for you! 4.5+4.5=9!I know many of you will find it ridiculous but this is the way I rate. :)

Approximately how many movies do you need to rate before becoming a top 1000 voter on IMDb?

First time I have noticed I might be among the top1000 voters was when I had a little bit over 7000 votes. It happened more or less by chance. I had several movies opened in tabs including their ranking and I have marked one obscure tv episode in my mother tongue. This tv episode had little ranking and the only ranking difference between the two days was one vote and corresponding change in top1000 voters which was the same as my vote. Granted this might not be true, since imdb is very elusive I am pretty confident it is true.Currently, I have just crossed 10k votes these include tv shows, movies and short movies with imdb pages. In terms of movies I have about 800 movies rated. Also I think and hope that imdb is employing algorithms to identify bots and automated voting. So to be consider imdb top1000 there is probably a lot more then just pure vote numbers. My best guest to these would be:Frequency of voting.Voting on specific movies especially new releases in order to try and influence average score. Some kind of system to identify probability with which person would vote for similar movies. Sort of anti recommendation system to check random voting.Higher levels of verification. Which bots would not be compliant with. And length of service with the website. I would say 5 years to qualify for the group.Usual anti bot mechanisms employed by online gaming companies.

Is there a way to show my IMDB movie ratings on Facebook?

I've been using this app: http://www.facebook.com/apps/application...

I had originally thought that was what it is for, but apparently not, maybe there's a setting? Anyone know? I think it would be a great way to suggest good movies to others, and which to avoid.
