In Germany Is It Legal To Send A Big Rotweiller Dog Or Pit Bull After A Cop If A Cop Is Chasing

Which is a better guard dog: German Shepherd or Rottweiler?

I've owned both dogs during my lifetime. I'll try to summarize!!GSD: Imagine a hamster on a squeaky hamster wheel. You know they are in the room the moment you walk in. They just keep running and running in order to burn off all of their energy except the hamster is your GSD and the wheel is your fence line. GSD are highly active and will constantly run your fence line while barking at any motion, person, sound or animal that may surround your yard/premise. This is great because potential intruders are well aware of their presence far before considering committing any crime in or near your home.Rottweilers: Picture a very loving and lazy housecat whose only desire is to be scratched, fed and to lounge. They too will FIERCELY protect you but unfortunately (for potential intruders) they may allow the person to get very close before they hear the infamous Rottie growl. Even worse, the person is already in the yard or the vicinity before realizing that they are being “stalked” by the Rottweiler. This is never a good sign. My neighbors didn't realize that I had a Rottweiler until they physically saw him because they never hear him. I have a friend who has several and they rarely bark and you don't know they are there until 7 Rotties walk in the room. This would never happen with a German shepherd because they are always heard before seen.Rottweilers are fiercely obsessed with guarding their owners and family. GSD are better herders and are obsessed with guarding their property. So you have to decide how close or far you want your dog to guard.I believe that the GSD is better at warding off potential threats whereas Rottweilers are better at “handling” the threat when it’s present. Neither dog will back down.

My rotty dog, killed my puppy!! What should i do?

Im going to make the story short.

My family adopted a rottweiler dog when she was almost a year old. Before that, she grew up with her sister.. after the adoption. She grew up with my 13yr old dashund male dog, they got along great. She was never raised to kill, attack, or to be agressive. We gave her and the other dog lots of attention and love. My daschund passed away, (tear), so we decided to adopt a chihuahua puppy.

It took about a week to introduce my rottweiler dog to the puppy. We worried that she might react a certain way..but she didn't Everytime we did, she was okay with him, played tag, etc. So before everything happend, they've been together for 6 months.
So in other words, the rottweiler always grew up with other dogs.

This is difficult and emotion part to explain..here goes.

I left my rottweiler dog and the puppy in the backyard. I went to make an errand, and lasted no more than an hour. When i arrived, i heard a loud cry.!!!! I walked to the backyard, and the puppy was covered in blood and crying. My rottweiler dog, was just playing around with him.. like a friendly tag.

I freaked out!! i went to the puppy, and noticed he had sever teeth marks on his stomach and neck. It wasn't long until he passed away in my arms. .(this is making me cry).

What i believe happend, was... my rottweiler dog..perhaps wanted to play "rough" with the puppy and "accidently" bit him?? Because when i arrived, she was playing with him. I think she lost her cool for.. like...10 seconds, and then..."snap back".. and started playing around with him.

What does this mean?? What should i do? Was this an accident? should i just give her away to the pound? i don't want to, we have the this rottweiler for nearly 6 years. All the great times we spend with her, were the best. We dressed her up, put sunglasses on her. etc.

But now i can't see her the same. Im scared of her..

i should put this as a sidenote: (im not sure if its relevant or not). My father rents an apartment in our back yard. There is a kid that has been living there for 8 months. I have caught multiple times, hitting, kicking ,punching, my rottweiler dog. sometimes he has her in a corner kicking her with full force. The kid is 6yrs old. I talked "trash" to the mother, to leave the dog alone.

Rottweiler hiking companion?

I want to get a Rottweiler. I have done my research and understand they are territorial and protective. I have owned a German shepherd mix who was very dominant, so I think I can handle a rotting.

I go hiking a lot. Would a rottweiler be ok off leash? Would it be aggressive with other hikers we come across on the trail? I plan on socializing it a lot by taking it to parks to be around people and dogs and by throwing a small party so he can get used to other people being in the house. And will a very socialized people friendly rotti still be protective if the need ever comes?

My dog does not LIKE German Shepherds?

My dog had the EXACT same problem...and he is part German Shepherd himself! When I took him to an obedience class, he actually won awards, but then lost it and even bit me when a shepherd got too close. He is now 11, and no longer has the problem. If you know that your dog had bad experiences with shepherds as a puppy, it's a likely reason. Your dog sounds like a big one, so be careful before putting him in a situation he is not comfortable with. The best advice is of course to ask a trainer or a behaviorist. Barring that, in my experience, socializing the dog has always been helpful. Make sure he gets along with other dogs before trying out a shepherd. Also, as yourself if it is all shepherds, or if it is just males/females, mixes, etc. It's tough to know how dogs will react in any situation, and they are also extremely sensitive to their owners...if you are nervous, they will pick up on it. I wish you the best of luck!

What makes rottweilers a more aggressive breed ?

Are there ways to "tame" or train a rottweiler puppy so that he has a better chance to become an easier, more even tempered to live with dog that wouldn't cause unnecessary harm ? His owner didn't charge anything for him and is still trying to find homes for the other 3 puppies who are males, so I don't believe these are full breed, and I'm glad of that because rottweilers have a reputation of being over aggressive, like dobermans. What are your experiences with owning a rottweiler, or a dog mixed with this breed ? Do you think there is much success in training them, or have there been some disappointing results ? Thank you for your comments .

Questions and thoughts from Pit Bull owners / Against the ban..?

I personally find it interesting that people want to band the breed all together because of a few horribly raised dogs, however, you bring up banning guns because of a few bad gun owners, and people flip out!! I'm not saying that pit bulls are as dangerous as guns, but both in the wrong hands can kill!
Also, after a pit bull attack, the usually never say where the pit bull came from. I bet a large majority came from dog fighting rings that were set loose or escaped. It' not fair to judge a breed based on a group of animals breed like this. And I know that dogs, like humans, have completely different personalities, and it is possible to do everything "right" with a pit bull, and still have something bad happen. But you can do everything right with other breeds of dogs, and have something happen. Hello- aren't serial killers people who can from "a good home"? In fact, I have been bitten by three dogs: a golden, a small poodle, and a mutt.
My pit is a big baby! He's afraid of our cat with no claws, and has been chased off by our friends cockapoo after approaching him on a "play date". My dog is also a very social dog with other dogs. He loves to play. And, it's usually the other dog who ends up barking and being aggressive and my dog in the submissive position. And even my mom who was afraid of him when she first saw him, has come to realize that he is a sweet and wonderful and well trained dog. In fact we are looking into getting him a AKC's Canine Good Citizen® (CGC) certificate to show what a great dog he is!
Basically, I will give up my dog who offers me so much more then protection and IS NOT dangerous, when gun owners give up their guns whose only real purpose is to protect and kill and are extremely dangerous!
