When a tree's branches are touching a power line, how come you don't get an electric shock just by standing on the same ground as the tree?

First of all, just because the wires are touching the branches doesn't mean they are connecting to the branches since some power line wires, such as those coming to your home, are insulated.  Of course if the wires rub against the branches, the insulation can rub away and then the wire can touch the tree branch.  Now, in order for current to flow through the tree, there has to be a complete circuit from the power source to the wire to the branch to the ground and back to the power source.  Just because the tree is in the ground doesn't mean there is a complete circuit.  It depends on how the power source is grounded and how far away it is from the tree.  If there is a complete circuit through the tree and through the ground about the tree back to the power source, then current will flow in the ground and there will be a voltage drop across the ground whose magnitude depends upon how much current is flowing and the resistance of the ground.  If you happen to be standing on the ground where current is flowing, then there could be a higher voltage on the ground under one foot than under your other foot.  If the voltage drop is not too great and you are wearing shoes with insulated soles, still no problem.  If you are barefoot, you are more likely to feel the voltage.  If the voltage difference is large enough to break down the insulation of your shoe soles, then you would surely get a shock.  However that large a voltage drop would probably correspond to a large fault current, that would trip the power company's protective circuits.  And it might well have first set the tree on fire or burned away the branch and "cleared the fault."  And you might be dead by then.  Lots of unknowns here depending on the exact circumstances, but not a sure hazard for you in all cases.

What could cause a car battery to drain? The battery is new, I started the car a few times and it ran fine. I went to start it again, and it didn't work. If the alternator is powering the car while it runs, why is the battery not charging?

First, look for some light, door, trunk or other thing that is on and draining the battery.  This may be an electronic accessory, like a GPS system, entertainment system, etc.   We had a battery being drained by an early model XM satellite radio.Modern cars have lots of lights and different modes and options, so if you don't find anything in the daytime, look again at night for lamps, lights, etc. like a trunk lamp or glovebox lamp that does not go off. Now, if you don't find anything obviously stuck in the ON position, you need to take to a place that does electrical service. You may have a bad voltage regulator, rectifier, or other issues besides the alternator.

What's causing this crazy intermittent misfire? (Read info before commenting)?

First thing I would do is get rid of the AC Delco Sparkplugs. Use Champion Platinum (single electrode) Sparkplugs. I have had AC Plugs misfire .

Run the engine to the point it is misfiring, keep it there for about 5 seconds, Shut the engine off while it is misfiring (do not let it drop to idle before you turn it off). Pull the Sparkplugs one at a time and "read" them: White= lean mixture or loss of ignition, Brown= Normal, Fluffy Black=too rich, Black & Wet-oil fouling, Tiny little balls splattered all over= Real Lean. You let the engine cool down before removing the plugs.

You are really pushing the limit of the Valvetrain when reaching 5,500 RPM. Valve Float may be your problem. This one may be less likely to be the problem

You want to try advancing your Ignition Timing just a little more and see if it helps. You may need higher Octane Gas. You may want to try TECHRON FUEL ADDITIVE before trying higher Octane gas.Of course you can do both by filling up a Mobil/Chevron gas station. if this does work, when you do your next fill up (after the Higher Octane) with your usual gas grade.
