How hard is it to get into Texas A&M?

I didn’t think it was especially difficult to get into Texas A&M, but I wanted to put some numbers to it as opposed to going solely based off of my own experience.(Numbers pulled from the following site: Office of Admissions | Texas A&M University - Admissions Profile)For the Class of 2018 (my own class), 21676/35667 applicants were admitted, or around 60%. However, this number includes applicants who received guaranteed admission through the top 10% rule or the academic admit rule; the number of these applicants is 10830 + 3446 = 14276.Considering only applicants who went through the review process, the percentage of applicants who were admitted is 7400/21391, or around 35%. This number still does not present the full picture, as only 2800 admitted review applicants were actually offered full admission. The other 4600 admitted applicants received offers for either the Gateway or Blinn TEAM programs, which can lead to future acceptance at Texas A&M depending on academic performance. Additionally, 8200 applicants received an offer for the Program for System Admission, although they were not included the count of total admits.Overall, these numbers suggest that it isn’t too difficult to start somewhere else and later transfer to Texas A&M, though if you don’t have the grades for automatic admission, it isn’t easy to be directly admitted.

Should we root for Michael Vick?

I am certain that I am in the minority here, but I am of the opinion that we should treat his (or any athlete's) on-the-field actions differently from his off-the-field actions. In other words, whether or not you think he is an immoral man for engaging in dogfighting, that should not affect whether or not you respect him or root for him as an athlete. And let me stress I hold this view across the board. I hate it when the media gets up in arms when Wayne Rooney cheats on his wife and is like, "BUT HE'S SUPPOSED TO BE A ROLE MODEL."  Right, like 12-year-old boys are all of a sudden going to say, "Oh, Wayne Rooney slept with a hooker, so now I feel the need to do so as well."  I hate Wayne Rooney, but not because he slept with a hooker (off the field).  I hate him because he plays for Manchester United (on the field).  (And partially because he looks like a troll.)For me, the thing with Michael Vick is the same. The problems you may or may not have with the man should not even come into play when you are discussing whether or not you support the athlete.  Do I think dogfighting should be illegal? No, I don't, but that's not why I support Vick. I support him because I like his style of play and because he used to play for the Atlanta Falcons, which used to be my local team.  Keep the off-the-field issues off the field, people.EDIT: I need to clarify something, I think. I don't think that athletes should be exempt from legal justice. If Michael Vick had murdered someone through drunk driving (like Donte Stallworth who only got 30 DAYS IN JAIL compared to Vick's two years or whatever it was), then I would expect him to experience the full punishment of the law. My point is, even when there is a case that is that severe, where another human is murdered by an athlete, if that athlete isn't convicted for life and does get a chance to come back to the league, my decision on whether or not to root for him will be based on what team he's on, how good of a player he is, etc. I will never make my decision based on things that happened off the field, because I trust justice to be served. If it is not, the athlete is not the one to blame, the authorities off the field are.
