In Ohio And Most States You Can Collect Unemployment Benefits After A Temporary Job Expires

How necessary is it to get a driver's license in your new state of residence?

Every state has a statute on this point: in general, if you're not a student or military, you're required to get a new license within 30-60 days (though a few states give you longer).  If you don't, then in some states your license could be suspended.  Similarly, every state requires that you notify them of address changes; if you don't notify your 'old' state of your new address in the required time frame (usually 30-60 days, again) then that license could be suspended there.Additionally, insurance policies often require that your correct address be on file with your state of license. If your license is suspended because of failure to notify the licensing body, many insurance policies will no longer cover you; if your insurance policy lapses as a result, you may then also be facing charges for driving without insurance (here in Maryland, that offense carries up to a year in jail).  Moreover, if that policy lapses and you're in an accident, you may find yourself without coverage for the costs associated with that accident. There are no good reasons to not deal with this.

How do food stamps correspond with TANF? Are they the same thing? If not, how?

Food stamps and TANF go hand in hand. Once someone signs up to receive public assistance, i.e. a mother with children, she will receive the amount of food stamps for her household size, and a certain amount of “cash benefit” also depending on the size of her household. So a family of 5 could receive $750.00 in food stamps and $259.00 in cash assistance on their EBT cards each month for 45 months (life time benefit). Of course if you do not have children, or are male, you would not receive TANF (cash assistance), you would only receive food stamps (SNAP).

Can an international F1 visa student get an SSN without a job offer in the US?

You will only need an SSN if you are planning to work so you can not apply unless you have been offered a job and been cleared to work by the International Students Office in your university and, in some cases, the USCIS.To get your SSN you will need to go to your local Social Security Administration. Here you will need to fill out an SS-5 form. You will need to bring identification that includes your name, date of birth and any other identifying information.Your identification should also include a recent photograph of you. You will also need to bring documentation to prove that you are authorized to work and explain your current immigration status, you can do this by bringing your I-94, I-20, DS-2019, I-551 or I-766.Since you are not entitled to get an SSN unless you have been offered a job so you will need to bring proof of this with you when you go to the Social Security Administration. If you are an F1 visa holder and planning to work on campus you will need to bring a letter from your school’s office that identifies you, explains your current student status and gives details of the job you will be doing. You also need to bring a letter of employment that gives your start date, the number of hours you will be working and your supervisor’s contact details. If you are taking part in CPT, you will need to bring your I-20 form with the employment section filled in by your school’s office. If you are in possession of an M1 or J1 visa you should consult the International Students Office about work eligibility.Once you have completed your SSN application your SSN will be processed and you should receive it in the post within two weeks. You do not need your SSN to start work but you will need it to report your earnings and pay your taxes. How Do I get a Social Security Number if I’m an international student? - Stilt blogHope this helps!

How long after someone is fired can they be rehired at the same place?

That depends on the company and the reason for being fired. Companies may have explicit policies for re-hiring terminated employees or it may be a subjective process. Either way there’s no guarantee that an employer will take an employee back after any amount of time has passed. If the reason for termination was due to downsizing or layoff then a former employee might have a decent chance of getting rehired when the company is in better financial shape. However, the timeline for that is unpredictable. In fact the company may never get back on its feet.If the employee was fired for performance reasons then I’d expect the employee would have to demonstrate how they’ve changed since being terminated. Was there some personal situation that has since been remedied? Has the employee received additional training or education? Have they demonstrated a strong record of employment at another company? A company is less likely to rehire a poor performer than someone they had to let go because of downsizing. Still, if the employee has demonstrated some form of progress they might take them back. How long it would take to get rehired would depend largely on how long it takes the employee to demonstrate a significant change in circumstances. If the termination occurred due to criminal activity, an ethical lapse or because of intentional actions that brought serious harm to the company then the most likely answer is “never.”

Im pregnant & have a question regarding WIC & food stamps?

Im 19 weeks pregnant & am not working right now, had to put my 2 weeks notice in at the hospital I was working at per my OB dr because I have chronic high blood pressure & Im a high risk pregnancy. So, I live in an apartment with my fiance who works full time & we are really struggling to make ends meet with only one income. He has to pay everything, rent, bills, groceries, gas, insurance, past debts & now he has to cover $1500 of medical bills for my OB visits until his insurance plan covers the rest. So, needless to say we are really struggling to even have food in our cupboards & barely scraping by. We are both very stressed & Im due in April & want to make sure I have the things I need for the baby. Ive never been on govt assistance or anything so I have no clue how it works, I live in Ohio also. Im curious if we would be able to qualify for WIC or even food stamps to help us get by until I have the baby & can go back to work again?? Would I qualify living w/ my fiance? Would they go by his income & if not, would they try to make him pay child support?
