What's this japanese cartoon called?

Is it Anpanman? He's a superhero with an an (bean paste) filled bread as his head...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anpanman

I did not know his head came off, but this is what wiki says:
He is the main character of the anime, whose head is a bun made by Jam Ojisan. His name comes from the fact that he is a man with a head made of bread (Japanese: pan, a loanword from the Portuguese word meaning "bread") that is filled with bean jam (Japanese: an) called an anpan. His weakness is water or anything that makes his head dirty. He regains his health and strength when Jam Ojisan bakes him a new head and it is placed on his shoulders. Anpanman's damaged head, with Xs in his eyes, flies off his shoulders once a new baked head lands. He was created when a shooting star landed in Jam Ojisan's oven while he was baking.

What do Japanese people call cartoons?

In Japan, the term "anime"(which is short for animation) refers to all types of animation around the world.

Tom and Jerry is anime, Shrek is anime, South Park is anime, an so on.

If they want to differentiate domestic animation from global animation, they'll call Japanese animation "Japanimation"

Why do Japanese people marry cartoons?

I thought this was a reference to Krieger’s relationship with a hologram in the US TV show Archer. Now I know where the writer got it from.In 2009 a Japanese guy married a Nintendo DS character. Recently an anime game 'Niitzuma LovelyxCation' was released in which players are able to develop a relationship and have a girlfriend in the VR world.I’m not a psychiatrist but as a Japanophile it’s an extension of the “loneliness in a crowd” effect I witnessed in Japan. The Japanese aren’t the most expressive of people. There is a lot of kataomoi, unrequited love going around. It’s a common theme in anime, dramas and manga and a fact of life for millions of young people. So I’m not surprised that some people find companionship in animated or virtual characters. One could easily write it off by saying “the Japanese are strange” and they are, but doing so ignores the reality of the situation, one where a culture makes it almost impossible to express ones true feelings openly.

In Anime cartoons, do all characters have to have last names?

It really depends on if they are a main character or not. Like your main characters, definitely. But if it's a side character or just another face in the background who is sometimes spoken to, then no. But for a japanese manga/anime, you will sometimes find that guys call each other by their last names.
Overall, unless the person isn't honored or honorable, then they wouldn't have a last name.
Examples:
Tomoya Okazaki. Most of his friends and even his girlfriend call him Okazaki, unless a few of them call him Tomaya-San.
For girls they would call each other Chan at the end of the name.
Senpai, if you are wondering, is a thing they add to the end of a name if they are an honorable or rich person.

Some names: (I didn't come up with these, they are from other manga and anime)
Haruhi Fujioka
Tamaki-Senpai (last name Uou)
Tohru Honda
Kyo Sohma
Yuki Sohma
Nagisa Furukawa
Kyou and Rou Fujybaiashi
Khaurou
Hikaru
Kyoya Ootori.

Hope this helps! Also, if you search on google, there are lists of anime names you might like. Just search, "Anime Name List".

Is Japanese animation popular in Middle Eastern countries, such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Kuwait?

I can speak about the state of Japanese anime in Saudi Arabia, which is probably very similar to its state in other Gulf nations like Qatar, Kuwait, or UAE. Japanese anime is extremely popular in Saudi Arabia, it's what every Saudi (probably Arab too) watches as a child. Japanese anime and cartoons are widely aired on Arabic channels for children; so much so that they have become the norm when it comes to kids entertainment. The average Saudi individual has definitely watched dozens of Japanese anime during his/her childhood. Here are some examples of Japanese anime I and most Saudis my age watched when we were young (10-20 years ago)DoraemonCaptain TsubasaGrendizerAshita no JoeHoneybee HutchTsurikichi SanpeiHeidi, Girl of the AlpsArabian Nights: Sinbad's AdventuresDodge DanpeiTiger MaskRomeo's Blue SkiesFuture Boy ConanRobin Hood's Great AdventureBelle and SebastianMoero! Top StrikerIron Fist ChinmiTakarajima Jungle Book Shōnen MowgliI have to say that all these shows have been dubbed into Arabic, and all characters were given Arabic names. Actually, there are a couple of Arabic channels that are specifically for Japanese anime. I think the most popular one is Spacetoon. This video contains some of the most famous opening theme songs of old Japanese anime dubbed into Arabic. You might be thinking now that Japanese anime is only popular among kids. This is not the case. Teenagers and adults in Saudi Arabia watch it as well. Long series like Naruto, One Piece, Detective Conan, Bleach, Dragon Ball and many others are very popular. In fact, subtitles of new episodes of ongoing series are made available in the internet just few hours after they are aired in Japan. Short series and movies are popular as well. I can think now of short series and movies like Death Note, Fullmetal Alchemist, Berserk, Final  Fantasy and Grave of the Fireflies.

Why are Japanese anime not popular in India?

Anime is not mainstream yet , and it will take a long time for it to become popular.However.....This is Bangalore . India ! Bangalore Anime ClubAnime is slowly gaining popularity in India. Though most people think that animation means -- cartoon and they think it is only for young children. We know that is not the case! Slowly, but surely anime is gaining popularity and popular anime like Naruto or One piece are known titles among most university students in big cities.I can tell you few reasons (anime not being popular) based on my understanding -1. India is very big and understand that most people cannot understand English.Unless, mainstream anime is dubbed in Hindi and is made popular by some big channel. Anime will take lot of time to gain traction in India.2. From financial perspective. Illegal media is very common in India , unlike Germany or US where you can be fined for downloading from torrent , you can download anything without any hassles. This is very discouraging to producers and marketers of anime production houses and thus they do not market anime DVDs or manga too much in India. However, I was surprised to see the complete DVD set of Bleach in one of the book stores in Delhi and Mumbai!Flipkart has huge collection of Manga - Manga - Buy Products Online at Best Price in India - All Categories | Flipkart.comYou can find most popular titles there!3. Sad to say , but we Indians have a very bad herd mentality. Wherever we go we try to find the same food , same people , similar environment. I travel extensively , I have been to 7 countries. I can always see Indians hanging out with Indians. We can try to mingle and learn from others, but very few of us do. Sad to say most of us are not that broadminded to experiment and learn about new cultures. Thus anime or any other medium of expression from another culture is not seen with keen interest. There is much more to Japan than just anime ! Nevertheless, anime gives you a decent window into the Japanese culture , you can understand few things about Japan and you might misunderstand some too (most things are unlike anime in Japan).Don't be saddened! There are many people who watch anime and you find clubs and communities all across India and that to internet we can always find people with similar interests :)Whenever you get a chance spread the anime fandom :)
