In The Divine Comedy Is Dante A Templar

In the Divine Comedy, is Dante a Templar?

I've seen a video game and an animated movie where he is a Knight of Templar but I can't recall him mentioning it in the Divine Comedy. If anyone is familiar with the work could you please tell me whether or not he is indeed a Templar, and if so could you please provide the canto and stanza that says so.
Thank you!

Why is Dante's Inferno a comedy?

The name of the entire work is Comedia, and what that means cannot be limited to Inferno. Now Inferno can be funny, but it's usually in a pitch-black sort of way and humor is entirely beyond the point.Comedy in the sense of Dante basically means a story which ends in joy and the restoration of harmony to the universe. So just as a tragedy usually ends in death, a comedy’s most traditional ending is a marriage. That’s the point of The Divine Comedy: the hero passes through the places representing marred harmony (hell) to reach heaven and divine love, the great order of the cosmos. Its a comedy because it has a happy ending.

Why is it called the Divine Comedy?

I'll explain you a little better. I'm an Italian literature student and the Dante's Comedìa is my bible. Like other people did answer, there were two genres known from the ancient world (even if in Dante's era there were already many other genres in developing, so it's not exactly correct to say "At the time there were only tragedy and comedy"), tragedy and comedy: comedy was the definition of any story who started bad and ended well (like Stephanie said). Dante called the Divine Comedy just "Comedìa", exactly 'cause it started in the depth pain of hell and ended in the magnificient beauty of Heaven. So, why is it known like "Divine Comedy/Divina Commedia"? There's a nice anecdote about it: one of most important lovers, readers and students of Dante Alighieri was another master of Italian literature, Giovanni Boccaccio. It was a pubblic reader of the Comedy back in the Firenze of these days, and maybe one of the first critic of this incredible masterpiece. So, it used to definy the Comedìa whit the appellation of "Divine", due to the argument of dante's travel, and also to give solemnity to the poem. Even if today we consider him one of the greatest writers as one of the worst critics, It was so important that his definition remained impressed in times. Here's why it is called Divina commedia. By the way, the violent depictions aren't about the entire poem, I hope you'll read the Paradise, beacuse there's no blood but just poetry in there.

What places did Dante travel through in Dante's Inferno?

Well… the canticle is called the Inferno. So the answer is, well, the inferno, Hell. In the opening canto he’s in a dark wood and then on a hillside; he can’t climb his way back to business as usual because he is forced to confront three allegorical beasts which correspond to different sins, or classes of sins. Once the shade of the Roman poet Vergil, Dante’s great epic forebear, appears to guide him through the underworld, Dante enters the gates with that terrible inscription:Per me si va ne la città dolente, per me si va ne l'etterno dolore, per me si va tra la perduta gente.Giustizia mosse il mio alto fattore:fecemi la divina podestate,la somma sapienza e 'l primo amore.Dinanzi a me non fuor cose createse non etterne, e io etterno duro.Lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch'intrate.Through me one goes into the sorrowing city;Through me one goes into eternal suffering;Through me one goes among the lost people.Justice moved my lofty maker,Divine power made me,The highest Wisdom and the primal Love. Before me nothing was created That was not eternal, and I endure forever.Abandon all hope, you who enter.Thenceforth, Dante travels through a Hell whose structure is his own design. This is that Hell:Thence, after a remarkable moment at which directionality is reversed at the earth’s center, Dante climbs up and out to where he can once again see the stars, and is ready to journey on to Purgatory.Now.Don’t cheat yourself. Get a facing-page translation (the Hollanders’ is aces) and learn as much of the Italian as you can. Learn how poor and wretched a thing my little translation above is (off the cuff and purely functional, yes, but in a thousand years I couldn’t equal one line of this poem). Experience the actual events and inhabitants of the Inferno for yourself. I won’t deprive you of that. I’ve just given you a map, and map is not territory; un altro viaggio awaits you.

What does "usorious" mean? Not sure of spelling.?
