In The Usa Do The Prisoners Get Any Kind Of Choice Of What They Want To Eat According To Their

Why do my tax dollars go towards prisoners?

Does this make sense to anyone. Honestly. Why the hell do i work all day just to have a portion of my money go towards some rapists medicine. Or some child molester to get food everyday. And i don't want to hear "its actually more expensive to execute someone then serve a life sentence" Just let their *** rot in jail no food water nothing.
And what really makes me sick is the kind of care they get. They get all the medicine they need all the while I have to watch a friends dad struggle to raise money for a bonemarrow transplant just to live. He can't afford the right medicine, he cant afford fake teeth since his illness is destroying him. Should he just kill someone so he can get the right meds in jail??
This crap happens all the time. Those sicks ***** go to jail just to get 3 meals a day and any and all medicine they need to keep them healthy. They have a roof over their head.

Also, dont give me some crap about "serving a life sentence is worse then dying blah blah blah"
Its all crap hard working americans put in an honest 8 hours everyday to support their families just to eat. While scumbags eat free.
Think about it

How do prisoners get so buff after having bad meals all the time?

It is a choice we are faced with when stepping on prison grounds. County jail and prison are two different things. Prisons are built on self sustaining grounds. From what I have experienced in the Texas prison system, I can enlighten youFirst, being in county jail is usually temporary a holding faculty in between your home and prison, your home away from home. The food in county has always been regarded as slop, mostly beans and starches. Inmates are usually coming off of drugs and are between sentencing. Commissary is available to purchase, such as candies and pastries. Lifestyle changes are not made usually in county jail. After sentencing, the inmate is sent to prison for however many years. In prison, everyone is assigned a job, whether you are working in the fields, a pig farm, a kitchen cook, laundry room, day yard, etc. It is shocking on how structured everyday life is in prison, and how everyday feels the same. Not much else, besides the same everyday routine, fills an inmates schedule.I've been to prison twice. First time, I turned to food for comfort. It is so easy to gain weight in prison. Each meal from the chow hall normally contained pork and starch. I was never picky and I always ate what my neighbor didn't. Prison meals are not low in fat. They can range from 1500–3200 calories per meal. I would also eat pastries, drink cokes, etc from commissary. I gained 55 pounds in 6 months. My second visit to prison I had made that promise to myself to not let myself go this time. I made healthy eating decisions, such as: 1. Only eat at the chow hall once per day, preferably dinner. For breakfast and lunch, I will eat my commissary. Breakfast would be commissary cereal with powdered milk or oatmeal. Lunch would be commissary tuna with some nuts. 2. Do not purchase regular cokes, candies, pastries, from commissary and limit soups. 3. Do not eat more than 2–3 ramen per week. Every morning I had a workout routine upon awakening. My cubicle cell was small, therefore limited to sit-ups, crunches, etc. I would do hundreds. By the end of my stay, I was looking really good. Not many women work out. It's either maintaining the weight you came in as, or let loose and call it a vacation.

'Green Eggs and Ham', article on Yahoo News- a man in prison doesn't like his food, why should he get a choice

Because there are too many bleeding heart liberals in our country. I am a correctional officer and nobody is telling me what I don't already know. In my experience because I am not just a correctional officer, but I am also a father that sends his children to public schools. I find that inmates are fed much better than our own school children. It may not be the most palatable food but it does provide adequate nourishment. But then if you have ever eaten school cafeteria food you also know that they aren't too big on taste either. As far as the free education someone else mentioned, we have inmates in my state that attend college courses free of charge. I'm talking about inmates with some serious time left on their sentences getting college degrees. I can agree that the state should provide a free GED program but stop there. If the inmate has the desire to further his education then allowances should be made but at an expense equal to what a student at perhaps a community college would be expected to pay. If he can't afford it or his family can't or won't then he should be told just like the poor children all over the United States are told. Sorry, come back when you do have the money. We do provide meals for non-pork diets.

How is the food quality and choice in maximum-security prisons?

If you don’t feed him like a real human being, a guy doing a life sentence (lifer) really doesn’t give a shit what you can do next. Food is a lot cheaper than a riot. You don’t want to screw with a lifer’s food. I’ve seen em complain about cold toast and got it fixed. Brown lettuce complaints, got it fixed.Quality was reasonably good, compares well with a cheap buffet restaurant.Local produce is common. There’s a lot of experimentation with new food types and sources, but its gone if the inmates won’t eat it. Each day is a different menu (rotates on a weekly or monthly or seasonal schedule). There are no seconds. Quantity feels short sometimes, but generally meets USDA calorie guidelines.Solitary (isolation, segregation, SHU secure housing unit) is a different story. Your food is not hot, it is not cold, it is room temperature. You will get served yesterday’s leftovers (that the kitchen help did not want). If you are a real jackass, you’re looking at token meals twice a day. In modern facilities, the bad boys are feed nutraloaf for every meal (see: Food As Punishment: Giving U.S. Inmates 'The Loaf' Persists). There are no choices. You eat it or go hungry.

Why do prisoners get free health care, shelter and meals but the poor don't? Isn't this unfair?

“Why do prisoners get free health care, shelter and meals but the poor don't? Isn't this unfair?”It is unfair that every human being, born into this world through no choice of their own, does not receive from their government their inalienable right to live.  To live, one must have sustainable food, clothing, shelter, health care, and education that can help them survive.A wise philosopher once warned that those who claim to be his “disciples” will be found on his Left Hand, regardless of their claims to believe in him, if they don’t feed the hungry, clothe the naked, shelter the homeless, care for the sick and afflicted, and visit the imprisoned.  Only those who do all they can to address the basic survival needs of their fellow human beings will be found on his Right Hand.No government, charity, religion, philosophy or corporation has offered more than a Band Aid approach to addressing the needs of the poor.  There is a plan, however, that would eliminate poverty practically overnight.  It is a plan sponsored by people who will not accept any donation or contributions to their efforts.  It is a plan that won’t take a dime away from the rich, the one percent who enslave the 99% in jobs that further enhance their riches. It is the plan of the Humanity Party, FBNL.

Do you have to pay for food in prison?

In the U.K. it would be yes and no.They feed you 3 “meals” a day, but I was constantly starving, so imo, you couldn’t live on what you’re given alone. The budget for a day is about £1.40 per person, that’s for breakfast, lunch and dinner.Lots of rice, lots of potatoes, lots of carbs basically, and not a lot of protein. That’s why canteen is so important. I was enhanced, so on my wing, we had a microwave and a fridge, which meant we could buy things like eggs, cheese, tomatoes, fruit, as well as the hundreds of other things on offer.Being enhanced is important, as it gives you £30 a week (of your own money) to spend. And if you’ve got a job, that goes onto your canteen too, so at one point, I was at close to £50 a week, and if you can spend £50 a week of your own money, then food isn’t a problem. It’s when you’ve only got £15 to spend that you have problems. You could buy 3 packs of tobacco, that’s it.With £50 you could buy 4 packs, plus 12 eggs, mayo, butter, tomatoes, noodles, cup’a’soups, space raiders, the works. So if you went in with nothing, they’d give you enough food to keep you alive, but you certainly wouldn’t be putting weight on. It was always a plastic bag with 2 tea bags, a small bag of cereal for breakfast, then a stale sandwich for lunch, then some nasty-ass “meal” on a child sized plate for dinner. That’s also when you get your breakfast pack that you have to eat that night because you were so hungry.Sunday’s we had a “roast” which was always a chicken leg, and it was always a left leg! I thought somebody was joking with me, but when I went in, sure enough, they were all left legs.I asked why? He said the right legs are slightly bigger and cost slightly more, so they only buy the left leg.I WILL NEVER eat a chicken leg again as long as I live!
