Each publisher, whether of books, magazines or whatever, will have their own requirements. I also agree that you should look into buying a book, published annually, called "Writers Market." This book will provide a list of publishers that have been known to, at least occasionaly, buy unsolicited works from writers. The book offers the names of the editors, addresses and other contact information. USUALLY, the routine is for the writer to contact the publisher and ask for their submission guidelines. The writer should send this request, along with a self addressed, stamped envelop (SASE) so that these guidelines can be mailed to you. ( a regular, number ten sized envelope, with a first class postage stamp will do ) It is very critical that you follow these guidelines very carefully. Nothing will direct a submission into the trash bin faster than one from a writer who can't follow directions. Most publishers recieve hundreds of submissions every week. These guidelines are intended to make THEIR jobs easier.
