Indefinite Leave To Remain

UK indefinite leave to remain?

I want to be a citizen of the UK. I will be going there for my university education and I will be 20 years old then. I know that I need an indefinite leave to remain for citizenship. I will have a student visa and I do not have any relative in the UK (well, a cousin of my mother is a UK citizen also the grandmother of my cousin is a UK citizen but I don t think it would help). What should I do, (how) can I get an indefinite leave to remain?

I have indefinite leave to remain in the uk, do i need a visa to Barbados, Saint Lucia ,Bahamas for holiday?

Your ILR is only relevant in the UK. It gives you no privileges that a British citizen might enjoy in terms of visa requirements

You can check whether citizens of your country need a visa here.

Indefinite leave to remain Fees?

There are no credit facilities. With all due respect you have known for two years that you have to pay these fees to get ILR and should have been putting money away during that time.

You can apply for further leave to remain which will cost you £550 as opposed to £972 for ILR.

Edit. Sorry but that is not the case. There has always been a fee for ILR. It has never been the situation that you can enter the uk with a Spouse visa and that's it - no further action required. A spouse visa is, and always has been a PROBATIONARY visa. You cannot stay any longer than the initial two years unless your marriage still subsists after two years and your spouse supports your application, in which case you can apply for ILR. If, for any reason you are not in a position to apply for ILR, you can apply for FLR as long as you give your reasons at section 4 of the application form.

There is only one situation where you would have been able to sidestep the spouse visa process and you would have been given ILE on entry to the UK and not needed to apply for ILR and that is if you were married amd living together outside the UK for more than four years . In this case you could have applied for indefinite leave to enter the UK which would have given you settlement status immediately subject to yu taking the Knowledge of Life in the UK test on arrival in the UK.

Do you have to have 'indefinite leave to remain' before applying for UK citizenship?

Can I be naturalised as a British citizen?
If you are over 18 and have been living in the United Kingdom for the last five years (or three years if you are married to or a civil partner of a British citizen) you may be able to apply for naturalisation as a British citizen. You may also be able to apply for naturalisation if you or your husband, wife or civil partner is in crown or designated service outside the United Kingdom. Applications for naturalisation are made using application form AN.

I have indefinite leave to remain (ILR) in UK and want to travel to holland. Do I need to apply for Dutch visa?

ILR is only relevant to the UK. As far as the Netherlands is concerned, you are a Ghanaian citizen, and therefore you need a visa - I checked. http://nl.vfsglobal.co.uk/familyvisit.ht... tells you everything you need to know about getting one.

The bonus is that it will be a Schengen visa so you can use it to visit any of the 26 countries that have signed the Schengen Agreement. http://www.government.nl/issues/visa-for... The UK is not part of Schengen and that's why having ILR in the UK doesn't allow you to go to the Netherlands without a visa. If you became a naturalised British citizen, you would be able to go to the Netherlands for as long as you like with just your British passport because you would be a European Union citizen just like the Dutch.

Can I apply for an indefinite leave to remain after studying in the UK on a Tier 4 student visa?

Hi Anmol,Indefinite leave to remain (ILR) allows you to live and work in the UK. Obtaining ILR status means, you are no longer subject to Immigration Controls at the time of entering or exiting the country. Sounds Amazing! But there are numerous requirements that are to be met with while applying for ILR.1) You need to be resident in the UK for at least 5 years before the date of your application.2) You must not have spent more than 900 days outside the UK in the last 5 years and no more than 180 days in the last 12 months. So if you are having General Tier 4 Visa then you have to switch from Tier 4 Visa to Tier 2 Visa and to qualify for this, you must have completed your degree in UK. After that, you will need a Job Offer from licensed Sponsor and a Certificate of Sponsorship. The job has to be relatively high skilled and pay appropriate salary as on the Code of Practice that is £20,800 minimum. You will get a Tier 2 Visa for 3 years. If the Sponsor is ready to assign a Certificate of Sponsorship for longer period then this period can be extended to 5 years. The condition prevails here is that you must be earning a salary of £35,000 to meet the financial requirements of ILR. The total stay with this extension period is maximum 6 years in this case. After 5 years of stay in UK on Tier 2 Visa, you can apply for ILR.OrIndefinite Leave to Remain can be granted to people who have lived in UK for 10 years and have shown commitment to the UK on Tier 4 Visa. It is quite tricky and needs a lot of calibre, skills, determination and prolonged period of higher studies. What you will have to do:1) Qualify for 5 years Tier 4 Visa for combined study of under graduation & post graduation.2) After getting a post graduate degree from UK, pursue Doctorate that will extend your living tenure up to 7 years.3) Once you complete your Doctorate, UKVI may offer you with 1 year Post Study Work (PSW) under Doctorate Extension Scheme which will enable you to stay in UK for 12 months to pursue Employment drawing a salary £20,800 minimum.4) In this way, achieve potentially this target of staying for 10 years in UK to apply for ILR.5) The condition for “10 years long residence” is that you must not leave UK for more than 540 calendar days in total or more than 180 calendar days at one time during your 10 years long stay.***ILR is just one step away from British citizenship, although it is not citizenship itself. For further information visit http://www.studyin-uk.in/service...
