Do Indian banks accept cheques in USD denomination?

Can a bank in India cash a cheque before the date mentioned on the cheque?

The cheque acquires its value only from the date as mentioned in the cheque.Before the date, it is mere slip of paper as far as the bank is concerned. Can you use old bank checks after the bank has changed names?

It shouldn't be a problem but it would be better to destroy them and have the bank replace them with current ones.

I believe that (provided all the relevant information is there) it is still legal to write a cheque on the back of a pig!

Can I deposit a cheque in a non-home branch of the state Bank of India?

Yes you can subject to endorsing the cheque as account payee or payment to self because third party cheques are not payable in non-home branch and will be refused.If you endorse the cheque as account payee then that will be deposited to the persons account mentioned in the cheque.If you do not want to deposit in account then you should write “Self” in the cheque for self payment. Upto Rs. 50000 will be paid in non-home branch, so you will have to set an amount less than Rs. 50000 for payment.If the cheque itself is of another commercial bank /Co-operative Bank which you want to deposit, then these should always be account payee. For commercial banks it would take less time for clearing while it would take more time for Co-opeeative Banks. Here clearing charges would be levied according to the amount in the cheque.Also Remember cheque should not be tampered in any way since it would be rejected.

Can a different bank cheque be withdrawn at another bank?

If you are asking whether a cheque of Bank A can be withdrawn across the counter at Bank B, then the answer is no.If you have an account with Bank B, then you will have to deposit the cheque for collection in your Bank B account. Bank B will then send the cheque to Bank A for collection.Bank A on receiving the cheque will validate the cheque and check if there is enough balance in the account of the cheque issuer. If the cheque is valid and if there is enough balance, then Bank A will debit the cheque issuer’s account and transfer the amount to Bank B.Bank B will then credit (deposit) the cheque amount in your account with Bank B. Then you may withdraw the money from your Bank B account.

My cheque expired today. How can I get money in India?

As explained in other answer if your cheque issuance date has crossed 90 days then it is said to be expired. But still you can get the money at revalidation it's date. For this you have to get it signed by the issuer. As per RBI guidelines no alternation is allowed in cheque except for revalidation or date extention. So your cheque is as good as new cheque if it you get it signed by issuer after rewriting the date and sign just below that date.

Can you change the name of the payee on a check after anther name has been written?

If your landlord accepts 3rd party checks, just have the person that the check is made out to sign the back of the check.

Check with your landlord and explain what happened and he may accept a 3rd party check this one time.

If you filled in a signed blank check from your mother, you can just cross out the name, put in the new name, and initial the change. If your mother completely wrote out the check, then legally you are not allowed to do that.
