Influence Of Family On Developing Healthy Lifestyles

What influences can affect a child's development?

Nurture and Nourishment
Children, according to their genetics, environmental and social influences, will develop differently from one another; no two children will have the same characteristic make up due to similar upbringing and influences but one thing for certain is that a child will develop poorly if he/she does not receive the proper nourishment and nurture within the first few years of life.

If a child is neglected of nourishment and/or nurture in the early years, it may not be of the parents will that this takes place. For whatever reason though that nourishment and nurture is missing, the parents should be concerned as to their child's developmental process. It has been researched and become a known aspect of child development in the field. Let us now take a look at a few of the reasons why nourishment and nurture, two of the most significant influences, are missing in some children's lives.
In today's world, it often takes both parents working to financially support the family needs. If this is the case, many children will spend their days in a daycare facility or with an individual babysitter. The babysitter situation is usually the better of the two if the parents are looking for a more one-on-one, nurturing atmosphere for their child but being in the care of a sitter does have it downfalls as well. The child looked after by a sitter may not receive the proper social learning nourishment needed to prepare him for the early school years of interacting with and acceptance of other children. Even if the sitter has more than one child to look after, which allows for the children to interact with one another, the sitter may lack in the necessary skills to properly teach the children other important social and educational skills needed to be learned in the early years.

Day care facilities on the other hand, often provide an adequate amount of nutrition, social skills, and education that children need to take in at that age. Most day care facilities have state guidelines to follow if they wish to operate legally. More often than not though, day care facilities lack in the nurture department due to the child to adult ratio being too high. Many facilities have 10-12 children to one adult; this number of children is far too great for any one adult to pay the amount of one-on-one attention to each child that is needed to aid in their proper development.

How does the family influence the development of the personality of every individual member?

All the proper values should start at home. Whatever a child sees on the acts of the adults seemed to be "what should be" when not properly guided. Adults too should learn on the actions of their children on some manner in order for them to provide better ways of bringing up their children. The development of a personality of a child is very crucial for there is no one to blame when a child grew up irresponsible but only their family.

A person's lifestyle has a significant influence on the person's health and development as he or she moves into middle age (and old age).?

•Describe how middle adulthood provides stability in a person's life. Explain some of the factors that would lead to stability in a person's life as he or she moves through middle age.
•Describe some of the more common lifestyle issues that have a negative impact on a person's continued development. Explain how a person may be able to reverse some of the lifestyle influences.
•On the basis of your readings, describe what is meant by a midlife crisis. Explain why a midlife crisis may or may not be critical.

How does culture influence our lives?

Human beings have three fundamental needs: control, connection and consistency. Answering those needs ensures that we survive long enough to have and raise children.Culture not only impacts whether or not we satisfy those needs, but especially how. For example, different cultures expose kids to religion at different ages. Different foods impact growth and health. Priorities given to education, male/female roles or work vary enormously from one culture to the next.Human behavior is driven by three fundamental needs. Those of our ancestors who answered those needs survived long enough to pass on their genes to the next generation. Thanks to evolution, those needs are still with us today. Understanding and acting on them, both in yourself and in others, is key to ‘surviving’ in today’s world, communicating effectively and achieving what you want. The three needs are:* Need to feel in control of one’s life. This is where our taste for knowledge, status, power, insurance, astrology and money comes from. Losing that control, whether in reality or just potentially, is something we avoid and act on.* Need for connection to others. There is very little, least of all reproduction, that we can achieve alone and we know this from birth. We also need to feel connected to the world around us and to what we do in it. We look for meaning. Isolation or exclusion, whether real or potential, is something we fear and may go to extremes to avoid (think how most people feel without their smartphone).* Need for consistency. The world might seem to be in a turmoil of change, but most of life is consistent. The same causes have the same effects. Things don’t change very much or change so slowly that they don’t grab our attention. Reality in its millions of tiny details, including our own thoughts, actions and identity, is mostly consistent with our expectations. Crucially, anything that’s consistent can be relied upon and can safely be ignored in most cases. This frees up our mind to pay attention to inconsistencies, which signal either threats to our control and connections or opportunities to enhance them.

How culture would influence a child's development?

Promoting culture within an early years environment with children is a way of meeting government legislationas The Children Act 1989 recognises the need for all children to develop positive self-images regardless of their race.

Culture also encourages respect - people of different cultures and religions live close together in cities all around the world. They all have their own customs and traditions.

Prejudice and discrimination are damaging to all children and research has shown that:

- Children who grow up feeling they are superior (because of their gender, their class, their religion etc) will have a damaging view of humanity which will limit their ability to form human relationships.
- Children who grow up feeling that they are inferior or that others view them as inferior (because of their gender, disability, skin colour etc) will not be able to achieve their full potential.

Cultural play - this is how play can value, celebrate and raise awareness of different cultures. Cultural play can enhance learning, understanding and acceptance.

Cultural play promotes self-esteem and positive self - image in children. All children & adults need to value their own cultural backgrounds - race, religion and culture.

There are many resources that can be used within a child care setting to develop positive images and identities, and prevent cultural stereotyping.

How strongly do genetics influence health?

Genes play a major role in our health, right from how we metabolize carbohydrates to what kind of exercises suit us. These are instructions that are handed down to us from our parents, like a will with the wealth that we are meant to enjoy before passing it on to the next generation. The science in our genes can be used to design the diet we follow, if we are good at metabolizing carbohydrates, then including a sufficient quantity of carbohydrates might be good. If we synthesize vitamin D poorly, then there may be a need to take supplements of vitamin D to make up for the shortfall. Then there is lactose intolerance where the enzyme lactase, needed to break down milk, is dependent on the genes we carry, either we have it or we don’t. We might drink a glass of milk every day but we definitely are not getting anything good from that, instead we run the risk of getting into gastrointestinal problems like nausea, bloating or vomiting. Since the body is unable to digest the milk, it is unable to absorb calcium, which could lead to osteoporosis, or protein, leading to protein deficiency.Similarly for gluten intolerance, the malabsorption of gluten, could lead to damage to the intestinal lining, leading to poor absorption of nutrients, and finally lead to osteoporosis and other health conditions.Genes even define mental health condition and the exercises that the body ca tolerate and benefit from. The major impact of genes is also on the risk for diseases like cardiovascular health, diabetes, risk for stroke and other similar health conditions. Knowing how the body works will help you structure a diet and a lifestyle that best suits the needs of the body. The wealth of information from your genes are dependent on the how we use it and how we supplement it to ensure good health.
