Instrumental Rock/jazz/metal

What is the Longest Rock Instrumental?

I know of plenty of long (and I do mean LONG) rock songs, specifically Progressive songs. But I'm a sucker for instrumentals. So I was wondering if there could be any really long rock/metal instrumental pieces somewhere out there. So far the only one I can think of is "Three Minute Warning" by "Liquid Tension Experiment".

And i don't just mean prog (although it seems unlikely that there would be any other genera that would make a looong instrumental song), any type of rock.... even Jazz, Metal, Funk... Just about any genera :)

What are some albums that mix rock, funk and jazz instrumental music done by the same band?

Generally I like my jazz acoustic. Give me a trumpet or a sax or both, a piano with a standup bass and trap drum set and I’m good to go. Most fusion bands feature good players but lack heart, there’s a certain coldness to the feel of the music. But there are exceptions. Weather Report was a great electric jazz fusion band. They mixed many styles of music into their sound. On any given album you’d get straight up jazz, rhythm and blues, funk, a touch of rock here and there and bits of folk music from around the world. Some of what they did help start the World Music genre. The following cut is from 1978’s “Mr. Gone”. Here’s Punk Jazz-In the mid ’70s Jeff Beck did a series of jazz/rock fusion albums that really did have the soul missing from so much of the genre. The best of the bunch is “Blow By Blow” (1975). It’s got very jazzy takes on rock, funk and blues. Take a listen to Cause We’ve Ended As Lovers and you’ll hear more than a little heart.Recently I caught the band PHO on my local NPR station and they really grabbed me. They mix jazz with funk & soul very effectively. Here’s a cut from their latest album “Two” called Dr. Drake-

Can you name any noise rock, alternative rock, or metal bands that commonly use jazz chords and influences?

Refer to here: Michael Koeberg's answer to Is it okay to play jazz with metal guitar? Also, try Last Exit as their music blends free jazz with noise music and fusion in an offering that brought free jazz into a more contemporaneous package where metal was coming of age during the 80’s.Animals As Leaders and CHON are also good places to start if you want a modern metal package with a spacey feel and potent chops as a certain Joseph Li had pointed out.If you are aiming for a neoclassical sound, try Tony McAlpine as his music fuses jazz fusion with neoclassical metal elements.Last but not least, there is Liquid Tension Experiment if you want a progressive metal and progressive rock sound. They happen to be composed of members of Dream Theater and King Crimson. Thanks for the A2A. Much appreciated.

What’s your favourite punk, rock or metal album?

A2A.There are so many albums that I consider as favorites so I’ll try to pick some of them.Pink Floyd - The WallScorpions - Love At First StingBon Jovi - Crush.Scorpions - Sting In The Tail.Judas Priest - British Steel.Dire Straits - Brothers In Arms. The Beatles - The White Album. The Beatles - Abbey Road.Pink Floyd - Dark Sode Of The Moon.Foreigner - No End In Sight.Notice that:all the albums are rock except for number 9 which is metal. There is no punk albums at all since I’m not that into punk. However, I appreciate their fashion style.Album number 10 is the only greatest hits album in the list.I hope you enjoy listening to these albums as much as I enjoy listening to them.

Wats the difference between jazz, pop and rock?

1. Jazz is most complex and difficult to play of all of them. IF anyone can play Jazz...consider yourself very lucky!
Jazz is most experimental and free form of all of them too. Jazz is all about going places to new musically. Jazz has the most complicated, crazy & odd time signatures of all them too. I mean you've got your 6/8 time and etc. You can really get lost fast if you're not careful and follow along very closely to the rythyms. Jazz is very mellow of all too. I love, play and enjoy Jazz drumming as a drummer. But I cant listen to it for too long because it's mostly "Instrumental music". I love vocals too much in my music.

2. Pop is well....pop. It's meant to sell a bunch of records like mainstream Artists do. Pop is ok...It's standard 3/4 or 4/4 time stuff. Pop is mostly : "baby, baby...I love you type" stuff"

3. Rock is very, very broad in terms of genres & styles....
I mean you can go either : Hard rock, Progressive rock, Emo, Indie, Alternative, Goth, New Wave, Punk, classic rock, heavy metal , thrash metal & etc. On and on and on...

Associate each heavy metal/rock genre with a zodiac sign and explain why?

Idk how to explain why.but i'm a fish & i like alternative, heavy, punk, grove metal, thrash too. They make me feel kinda energetic ,lessens my stress.you can say they're my oxygen.i breathe metal.
Initially ( when i was like 12 or 11)when i accidentally heard singers screaming & headbanging in a metal song i thought who would listen to that:P. But now they feel awesome:D i'm progressing towards all genres of music.started with pop, rap. Now metal, jazz& punk.
Music are not simple .they have something scientifically special in them.they have capability of influencing people's mood.
